RETHINKING REHABILITATION WITH ROBOTRAINER

CASE

The Alexandra Institute and Mjølner Informatics

improved the user interface of the robotic trainer,

RoboTrainer, enabling physiotherapists and users to

evaluate the rehabilitation progress easily.

At first glance, RoboTrainer looks like a classic pulley

trainer. However, looking closer, you will see that the lift

weights are missing. Instead, a computer and a power

sensor control the device, calculating the perfect amount

of resistance for a specific user and delivering just that.

Robotic Trainer to Improve Rehabilitation

RoboTrainer is a start-up project dedicated to provide

various customized training programs for the upper arm

and shoulder to users who need injury or post-operative

rehabilitation.

Furthermore, it is RoboTrainer’s mission to give

physiotherapist an easier way to plan and evaluate the

training process.

Improving the Physiotherapists’ Workflow

Jesper Heltzen, Partner at RoboTrainer, turned to the

Alexandra Institute and Mjølner Informatics because he

needed help in creating an intuitive and effective interface

that matches the everyday needs and workflows of

physiotherapists.

We came with some basic software and they helped make

it more simple and user-friendly. Physiotherapists can

now spend time on training, not on figuring out how the

technology works.

- Jesper Heltzen, Partner, Robotrainer

First Results Are Promising

RoboTrainer is intended for use in the homes of users,

and Jesper Heltzen believes that it has great potential,

as the demand for easily accessible and measurable

rehabilitation results has increased.

In order to improve RoboTrainer, Growth Forum of

Southern Denmark and Aarhus Municipality are currently

testing it, so far with promising results.

Besides improving the interface, other useful functions

have been added, e.g. a database for training programs.

Jesper Heltzen is expecting RoboTrainer to be on the

market within the next 18 months.

TECH

The Internet of Things, or IoT, holds great potential

for the industrial sector, promising a Fourth Industrial

Revolution, Industry 4.0. In order to utilize this new

potential, a number of competencies are required.

We were asked by the Danish industrial sector to describe

the competencies IT suppliers need to help the industry

reach Industry 4.0. This article is a condensed version of

our answer.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, as IoT in general, is all

about connectivity by means of cloud technology.

This creates new demands in security, maintenance, and

work operation. In our experience, five competencies are

vital when managing cloud systems and driving Industry

4.0 development.

1. Diversity as a Method

When we want to control a production line’s key

functionalities with desktop and web applications, push

alarms and reports to management’s mobile devices, and

drive machine-to-machine interaction, we need to know

all platforms and technologies involved.

This means that a single supplier must be experienced in

both mobile, desktop, web, and embedded development.

2. Understand Your Users

A richer industry needs richer interaction. Users need

access to data and functionalities stored in the cloud. More

efficient and secure work will be performed if we simplify

production line operations with intuitive user interfaces.

Our aim must be to deliver the right data to the right user

on the right device at the right time.

3. Meta Architecture

An agile production line with a high safety level cannot be

achieved without the right architecture.

This requires a solid understanding of the systems used,

domains, users, work flows, and most importantly the

interaction between these elements.

INDUSTRY 4.0:HOW TO GET THERE

Mjølner-UPDATE-Q4-205x205-FINAL.indd 14 01/12/14 15:37

4. From Big to Beautiful Data

An interconnected and intelligent production line will

deliver newfound amounts of data, but this is not

sufficient. For Industry 4.0 to succeed, suppliers need to

understand how to utilize the newfound data and be able

to teach clients how to do so themselves.

5. Merging Software, Hardware, & Users

All the cloud systems, data processing and innovative

thinking in the world are useless to the industrial sector

if we do not understand the machines we are trying to

control. Suppliers need hardware knowledge to create

simple, functional, and secure systems.

NEWS

Draupner Graphics is our new sister company,

launched on October 1, and it is now the home of the

unique software framework, TouchGFX.

In 2010, Mjølner Informatics discovered a gap in the market:

Consumers want smartphone-like touch controls in their

products, but they are unwilling to pay smartphone-like

prices.

This was the beginning of TouchGFX. After four years

of maturing, the framework is now ready for the global

market.

Focusing Our Work

With the launch of Draupner Graphics, we have dedicated

a team to focus solely on improvements and development

of TouchGFX.

This enables us to meet the evolving technological needs

of our international clients.

TouchGFX is a result of the unique diversity found at

Mjølner Informatics. Working with Interaction Design,

Software Development, and Digitial Innovation, we

discovered an opportunity no one else had recognized.

The Closests of Partnerships

TouchGFX is a result of the diversity at work in Mjølner

Informatics and clients will still benefit from this, as

Draupner Graphics and Mjølner Informatics will be the

closest of partners.

The interest in TouchGFX has exceeded our wildest

expectations. Our clients have gained a partner with a

sharper focus that will continue to draw on the sister

company’s many years of experience and diversity.

SOLUTION

APP-TIMIZE YOUR ENTERPRISEMobile technology is evolving fast. As a result,

enterprises are starting to see the potential of

mobile tools in the workplace. Here is how enterprise

apps can optimize your business.

Mobile technology has matured tremendously in the last

couple of years, making our apps more secure and reliable.

With these improvements, enterprise apps are becoming

a viable tool in the modern workplace.

Enterprise Apps do not only benefit the company, but the

employees as well, giving you a better environment for

innovation and efficiency.

Here is how:

Maximize Workflows

With the correct app design, you can maximize

employee productivity by digitizing important and

time-consuming tasks.

You will also avoid human errors and anchor important

knowledge in systems in addition to people.

Work Anywhere, Anytime

Tablets and phones can serve as pocket offices and

with great app design, you get the ability to access

your work offsite.

A typical use is control and overview apps, linking

employees to their physical workplace.

Sharing Is Caring

The ability for clients, employees, and co-workers

to share data enables them to utilize time more

efficiently, thereby improving business processes.

Enterprise apps can also help reduce data risks when

designed right.

What are Enterprise Apps?

Enterprise apps are software systems designed to satisfy

the needs of organizations rather than individual users.

They are often made to display, process, and store large

amounts of complex and business-critical data that

automate existing business processes.
