Technology Transfer Roundtable U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) organized a technology transfer roundtable discussion at Sandia on October 14 about enhancing technology transfer and creating jobs to strengthen the New Mexico economy. U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-NM), U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD), and Jetta Wong, U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Acting Director for Technology Transitions, participated along with Jill Hruby, Sandia President and Laboratories Director, Rob Leland, Sandia Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, and officials from Los Alamos National Laboratory. Several local companies founded on technology developed at Sandia - HT MicroAnalytical, Aquila, mPower Technology, and Abbott Medical Optics - also took part in the roundtable. The event was held at Applied Technology Associates (ATA) in the SS&TP. R E C E N T E V E N T S Manufacturing Day at the ParkAir Products & Chemicals, TEAM Technologies, and The QC Group, located in the SS&TP, hosted a private tour of their facilities for 50 enthusiastic students from the Technology Leadership High School, also located in the Park. These companies participated in “Manufacturing Day”, sponsored by the New Mexico Manufacturing Extension Partnership (New Mexico MEP). The purpose of this annual event is to highlight manufacturing, local companies, and the people working in the manufacturing industry. It’s a nationwide push to enhance public knowledge of the value of manufacturing to our economy.

AWA R D S A N D R E CO G N I T I O N ATA Aerospace Wins NASA ContractATA Aerospace recently won a fi ve-year contract worth up to $505 million with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) to provide engineering and related services to the Mechanical Systems Division (MSD) of the Applied Engineering and Technology Directorate (AETD) in support of a broad range of technical research and development activities. These activities include the formulation, development, integration and operation of space fl ight and ground systems that support GSFC’s science missions. ATA Aerospace is a joint venture between Applied Technology Associates (ATA), located in the SS&TP, and Maryland-based ASRC Federal Space and Defense.

An Entrepreneurial Exploration & Training (EET) Bootcamp was held on October 20 to provide an overview of the Lean Startup methodology and help identify the commercial applications and markets for ongoing research. There were 15 seasoned entrepreneurs and investors, selected by ABQid, who worked with 18 Sandia principal investigators on an exercise to adapt scientifi c discoveries into real world technological solutions. The session discussed a path to commercialization and off ered insight into what it takes to turn promising research and technology into game changing products and services that will benefi t the world.
