TEEN CENTER UPDATE PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Teen Center at the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club leaves something to be desired. Instead of a stimulating environment for the kids to study, collaborate, or relax, the current Teen Center relies neutral and in need of some tender, love and care. The purpose of this project is to bring the room some life! ABOUT MICHELE My name is Michele. I am 18 years old, and I am a current senior at Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco. Next year, I will be attending Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana on the premed track. Science is my favorite subject, and this year I am doubling by taking both Anatomy and Psychology. I am also taking an advanced Architecture course, which has helped me a lot in the design aspects of this project. I came to the Boys and Girls Club a little over a year ago looking for an escape from the stress of High School. I did a few small projects to get acquainted with the club, but this is my first big endeavor. Teen coordinator Miguel DeTrinidad decided that this redesigning project might be good for me because of my background in Architecture, and referred me to Erika Dugay, who has been absolutely instrumental in assisting me move forward each and every week. I hope I can see some major progress before going off to college in August! ABOUT MICHELE My name is Michele. I am 18 years old, and I am a current senior at Lick-Wilmerding High School in San

CREATING A DYNAMIC SPACE FOR TEENS

We have taken into consideration the needs of our teen members and determined the

following sections to ensure a dynamic teen space. These sections will help create a space that

truly motivates the teens to get things done and have a sense of ownership!

● The first section, “Junior Staff/Reception” is the point of entry for most if not all teens.

Having this section well defined will establish an identity for the entire Teen Center.

● The second section, “Leadership/Meeting Space” is a collaborative workplace for teens

to execute group projects and fulfill leadership positions.

● The third, “Teen Lounge” is a more private individual environment where teens can

study by themselves, do homework, or hang out.

● The final section, “Gaming/Multiuse Space” allows teens to relieve stress by playing

games, hang out, and manipulate the space as needed.

November 14, 2015 Michele Etzbach Junior Staff Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club 200 N Quebec Street San Mateo, 94401 To whom it may concern: My name is Michele E., and I am a current senior in High School, as well as a Junior Staff member at the Mid-Peninsula Girls and Boys Club. I have been working there for almost a year now on a couple of projects, including teaching STEM science classes and tutoring elementary school kids in a variety of subjects. My current project is designing and improving the Teen Center, the place at the Club that the older kids do homework, work on community based projects, and unwind from the pressures of school. This is where I am asking for your help. As of now, the Teen Center is painted completely white, creating a fairly bland environment. My vision is to bring the room to life, and painting the walls is a large part of creating the energized ambiance I am imagining. Color would also assist me in segregating the room into different spaces: one for group work, one for individual work, and one for unwinding and calming down. I believe this will assist the teens in becoming more efficient, as the room as a whole will be more organized. After reviewing a number of options with the teens, we have identified five colors and painting material that we are most excited about using to liven up the atmosphere:
