PRO BONOAware of the social environment in which it operates, TFRA seeks to play an active

role in the society being involved in social and cultural activities aimed to provide

underprivileged institutions with access to the legal protection and promotion of their

rights and interests. TFRA provides free legal services to social welfare institutions,

furthering the human and social development of its lawyers and providing access to

law to the less privileged.

Nariz Vermelho

TFRA is proud to cooperate with Operação Nariz Vermelho Association

– www.narizvermelho.pt – an IPSS operating in the area of health. This initiative

consists of a continuous program of visits by professional clowns to children’s

wards of Portuguese hospitals. In close collaboration with health professionals, the

clowns give short performances adapted to each child and particular situations.

As well as enjoyment, the performances contribute to improving the children’s quality

of life and often to their health as well, by stimulating their healthy side and

making their hospital stay a more pleasant experience. The NGO visits 13 hospitals a

week and has been recognized in 2006 with the Diploma of Merit granted by the

Portuguese Bar Association and in 2009 with the Human Rights Prize awarded

by the Portuguese Parliament.

ART COLLECTION

Teixeira de Freitas Collection, a contemporary art collectionthat focuses on worksfrom the previous two decadesand on emerging artists

TFRA is the depository of the Teixeira de Freitas Collection, a contemporary art

collection that focuses on worksfrom the previous two decades and on emerging

artists. The collection also includes a number of historical works from the 1960s and

1970s, which provide a historical background to the different themes and concepts

covered by the collection. The collection’s main focus is on works that develop

subjects connected to architecture. Other subjects covered by the collection include

literature, handwriting, contemporary painting and drawing.

As well as the Teixeira de Freitas Collection, TFRA is also the depository of a collection

of artists’ books, special editions and ephemera that include more than 1000 works.

Since 2012 TFRA has supported the annual exhibition programmes of Kunsthalle

Lisbon, an alternative space devoted to temporary exhibitions of contemporary art.
