HISTORY

John Logie Baird created the first working television set in 1925.

The first person to appear on television was a young office boy

in the same building where Baird worked. He was paid around 60

cents for his appearance.

The first televised tennis match was broadcast on July 12, 1928.

The first play entitled “The Queen’s Messenger” was broadcast

on September 11, 1928.

HISTORY

The first broadcast of TV pictures began in

Germany in 1935.

American TV broadcasting began in 1941.

Color television was created during the 1960’s

The longest running television show was

“Gunsmoke,” which aired from 1955-1975.

ROLE/FUNCTION

The role of television is mainly for entertainment

purposes

Provides News information

Offers education purposes through documentaries,

debates, and discussion series.

Environmental awareness is also achieved through

some television programs

IMPACT OF DIGITAL AGE

Television has become available to watch on

wireless devices (cell phones), laptops, computers

and iPads/tablets.

Many television channels and movie streaming

companies have downloadable Apps for these

devices.

One example is Netflix which has an App available

for the iPhone.

FUTURE ISSUES

Phone services are planning to wire all U.S.

households for advanced multimedia services, which

may be a huge problem for cable services.

When phone services complete this, they will be

capable of delivering a much higher level of

advanced services to homes.
