Nuada - Siansa Gael Linn 2013 WinnersHailing from Gaeltacht na nDéise, Co. Waterford, Nuada won Siansa Gael Linn 2013, the most presti-gious award for young traditional music groups. All but one of the musicians are under 17 years of age, while the youngest member of the group is only 13!

Their repertoire includes songs from the Déise and old and new tunes from local musicians who have influenced them over the years such as Caoimhín and Seán Ó Fearghaíl, Ciarán Ó Gealbháin, Danú, Nioclás Tóibín, Áine Uí Cheallaigh and Bobby Gardiner, to name but a few. They maintain a strong loyalty to the pureness of traditional Irish music and attempt to keep that at the core of their

playing and performance.

Nuada, comprising Pax Ó Faoláin, Cárthach Ó Faoláin, Macdara Ó Faoláin, Aoife Nic Giolla Pádraig, Rebecca Saich and Caoimhín Ó Cionnfhaolaidh, look forward to presenting a vibrant selection of traditional music and song at this showcase concert.

ChildVision, Ireland’s Education Centre for Blind Children, are pack-ing up their cuddly and friendliest pets from their petting farm and bringing them into Temple Bar for TradFest.

These animals play a very special role at ChildVision, helping the blind and multi-disabled children who attend school there to feel their cuddly, furry, friendly shapes. The little horses spend their days helping the children who aren’t able to move very well on their own to sit up and feel ten feet tall as they explore the sensory trail. ChildVision’s patiently friendly ponies, rabbits, sheep Elvis and Seamus and micro pigs Podge and Rodge show children the joy of be-ing with animals. The garden at

ChildVision is always alive with birdsong and the scents of grass and flowers.

Visit them at Temple Bar this Jan-uary and learn about the birthday parties and school tours you can have at ChildVision. The farm is on Gracepark Road and open to the public 7 days a week with no ad-mission charge.

Donal O’Kelly’s Edinburgh Hit Comes to The New Theatre! In Edinburgh 2013, Fionnuala was nominated for the Amnesty Inter-national Freedom of Expression award, won a Scotsman Fringe First award, and was nominated for Best Solo Performance by The Stage.Ambrose Keogh works for Shell. When the Tunnel Boring Machine he named Fionnuala sinks into the bog in Mayo, he is magically con-fronted by Fionnuala, the swan-child of the ancient legend The Children of Lir. Fionnuala puts a geas (spell) on him – he’s bound to tell what he knows about poten-tially lethal attacks on local oppo-nents of the Shell Mayo gas project. During his ordeal, Ambrose meets his school classmate Malachy, an anti-pipeline activist, and echoes from the past resound. “The magnificent O’Kelly – one of

Ireland’s most gifted writer-actors – succeeds in telling a story that is not only gripping, funny and full of a rich sense of Ireland’s great tradition of myth and leg-end, but also ruthlessly precise in its analysis of the deep malaise of 21st-century Ireland” FRINGE FIRST The Scotsman

Aisling Gheal is a scheme in the Munster Gaeltacht which encour-ages the transfer of the sean-nós singing tradition from one gen-eration to the next. The film quietly observes the participants of the scheme over a year and focuses in particular on the relationship between renowned singer and teacher Máire Ní Chéilleachair and her talented student: 11-year old Shahira Apraku.

Máire and Shahira’s journey to-gether is underscored by their melodious singing as they travel from front room to classroom to town hall listening and learning and absorbing old traditions and challenging some of our key con-temporary notions of ‘Irishness’ in the process.Directed by Dónal Ó Céilleachair -

Irish artist Emily Dawson will hold a solo exhibition exploring themes of Irish Celtic mythology and spiri-tualism. To coincide with Temple Bar TradFest, she will hold a spe-cially designed workshop with a strong basis in Irish mythology, aiming to teach you to access the subconscious when creating art-work.

The Workshop will explore meth-ods of accessing and trusting your imagination and subconscious. The results of this can then be made into artwork. Emily has been involved in activism, shamanism, druidism, healing and transcen-dental meditation, and will explain how all the paths we take and skills we acquire can be turned into art and poetry. Participants are asked to bring along a sketch pad and

preferred pencils or pens to work with.

Workshop will be followed by a tra-ditional Irish music session with a modern flavour.

Located in Drumcondra, Co. Dublin, the ChildVision campus is dedi-cated to the education and devel-opment of children with visual impairment and multiple disabili-ties. On the 21 acre campus sits a pre-school, primary and second-ary school, centre for vocational training, therapy centre and 5 resi-dential houses in the surrounding community. We also have a riding centre, petting zoo, coffee shop, garden centre and a FETAC accred-ited training centre.

ChildVision is the nationwide re-source centre for parents of blind and partially sighted children in mainstream schools. Our outreach resource team provides support to hundreds of students and families in communities throughout Ireland and all services are free of charge. From the moment a child is born

they soak up their environment, learning and developing at a rapid pace. Their world is full of bound-less potential but time-limited po-tential. What a child can learn at 18 months cannot wait until they’re 3 or 4 yrs. For children with visual impairment and other disabilities, the window slams shut – never to open again.

Breakthroughs do happen, some very small, some more major, but all significant. The hope for the future, that every blind child in Ireland will find their way to a happy, fulfilled life, lies with us.

Please support these children by donating to ChildVision.ie or by phoning 1890 2 33 34.

Thank you.
