formalities.�Walking tour in Madrid, including stops at:�Puerta Del Sol, the center of the city.�Plaza de España, which features a monument to Spanish

novelist, poet and playwright Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.�The Royal Palace.�The San Miguel Market, famous for its sumptuous tapas dishes.�Plaza Mayor to bear witness to the many auto-da-fé's that

took place here.�Check into the hotel.�Kabbalat Shabbat services at a local synagogue.�LaDa'at Focus The Golden Age of Spanish Jewry: Shabbat

dinner and orientation dialogue with your tour educator at a restaurant, with young members of the local Jewish community as guests.

DAY THREE SATURDAY, MARCH 5, 2016TOLEDO �Breakfast at the hotel.�Depart for Toledo, which remains much as it was in the 16th

century, and begin with a panoramic tour of the city.�LaDa'at Focus Toledo - A City of 3 Religions and Cultures

with your tour educator.�Tour the city, including the Jewish Quarter, the Samuel

Halevi Abulafia Synagogue, which was turned into a church known as Nuestra Señora del Tránisito, the Sephardic Museum and the Santa Maria La Blanca Church (formerly the Grand Synagogue).

�Lunch on your own, en route.�Return to Madrid.�Visit the Prado, one of the world's most renowned art

museums and the best collection of classical art in Madrid.�Dinner on your own and evening at leisure.

�Visit Segovia, a microcosm of the story of Jews in Iberia, from Roman times until the Expulsion.

�Visit the Jewish cemetery on the slopes opposite Segovia.�Lunch on your own, en route.�Visit El Escorial, a historical residence of the King of Spain.

It is one of the Spanish royal sites and functions as a monastery, royal palace, museum, and school; the site has been recognized as UNESCO world heritage site.

�Return to Madrid.�Dinner on your own and evening at leisure.

DAY FIVE MONDAY, MARCH 7, 2016SEVILLE�Breakfast at the hotel and check out.�Transfer to the train station.�Travel by AVE (high-speed) train to Seville, a city shaped by

both Renaissance and Arabic influences. Ancient texts place Jews in Seville at the time of the destruction of the first Temple (586 B.C.E.).

�Arrive in Seville.�Visit Plaza de España , an impressive plaza built for the

Ibero-American Exposition of 1929.�Tour the Alcazar Palace, the oldest royal palace still in use in

Europe. The palace was originally a Moorish fort and is one of the best remaining examples of mudéjar architecture. The palace has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

�Visit the Great Cathedral, the burial place of Christopher Columbus, and La Giralda, built in the 12th century, whose bell tower became the city's symbol.

DAY SIX TUESDAY, MARCH 8, 2016CORDOBA�Breakfast at the hotel.�Drive to Córdoba, the capital of the Moorish Kingdom of

al-Andalus.�LaDa'at Focus Great Jewish Figures of Cordoba - Ibn Shaprut,

Yehuda HaLevi and Maimonedes with your tour educator.�Visit Córdoba's famous Cathedral-Mosque with its 1,000

colored columns.�Visit the Jewish Quarter, including Plaza Tiberias and

the Yehuda Halevi Square. Continue to the Statue of Maimonides and the small Moorish-styled building known as the Maimonides Synagogue.

�Lunch on your own, en route.�Special program at Casa de Sefarad, dedicated to the

history of the Sephardic Jews in Córdoba and Spain prior to the Inquisition and the expulsion of 1492. Meet with the people responsible for the creation of this private historical venture in the Jewish Quarter.

�Return to Seville.

�Participate in a flamenco workshop to learn the basics of this typical Andalusian art form.

�Dinner on your own and evening at leisure.

DAY SEVEN WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9, 2016GRANADA�Breakfast at the hotel and check out.�Drive to Granada, the last stronghold of the Moors before it

fell to Isabella and Ferdinand in 1492.�LaDa'at Focus Christianity & Islam: A Dual Relationship and

Mutual Influences with your tour educator.�The Kaleidoscope that is Spain: Tour of the Alhambra

Palace and Generalife Gardens. The Alhambra is an Islamic palace and fortress complex originally constructed as a small fortress in 889, then renovated and rebuilt in the mid-11th century and finally converted into a royal palace in 1333 by Yusuf I, the Sultan of Granada. The palace exhibits Spain's most significant and well known Islamic architecture, together with 16th-century and later Christian building and garden interventions. The Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

�Guided visit to the Realejo, the former Jewish Quarter and the site of the original town bearing the name Garnata al-Yahud. Explore the meandering streets and traditional neighborhood, which have no tangible remains of the Jewish community, but a wealth of stories.

�Visit the Albaycn, an old Moorish neighborhood, with cozy narrow streets and charming white houses full of local color (now a UNESCO world heritage site).

Olympic Ring, the main stadium of the 1992 Summer Olympics.

�Passeig Maritim with its Columbus monument, the world-famous Las Ramblas, Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona's main avenue and its Modernist houses designed by Antoni Gaudí.

�Lunch on own at the Boqueria Market, and continue with:�A walk through the Gothic Quarter. According to

archaeological evidence, there was a sizable Jewish community in Catalonia as early as the beginning of the Common Era. For centuries thereafter, the Jews of Barcelona managed their own local affairs and lived relatively well in their own Quarter.

�Visit the Medieval Synagogue discovered in the Call Quarter.�Conclude with a visit to Gaudí's unfinished monumental

Church of the Sagrada Familia.�Check into the hotel.�Dinner on your own and evening at leisure

DAY NINE FRIDAY, MARCH 11, 2016GIRONA & BESALU�Breakfast at the hotel.�LaDa'at Focus Girona's Place in Jewish History with your

Jewish historical sites in Spain. Visit the Jewish Quarter,

which dates back to the 12th century.�Tour medieval Girona which was famous for its Kabbalists.

It was also the home of the great sage Nachmanides, who defended the Jewish faith in the 13th-century Disputation of Barcelona.

�Lunch on your own, en route.�Stop at Besalu, a picturesque medieval town that features

one of the best preserved Mikvaot (ritual bath) in all of Europe.

�Return to the hotel.�Kabbalat Shabbat services with a local Reform congregation.�Shabbat dinner with members of the local Jewish

community.

also to see some of Barcelona's most celebrated pieces of architecture.
