As you are aware, the first day of fasting was this Wednesday, the 16th of May and the last day will be on Thurs- day, the 14th of June. Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramazan Bayrami) will be celebrated on Friday, 15th of June, insha-Allah. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed Ramadan. May Allah accept our fasting, prayers and good deeds during this holy month. As mentioned in the letter I sent last week, I am very happy to inform you all that we have imple- mented a modified timetable during the month of Ramadan. School will finish at 2:30 p.m. every day from Wednesday the 16th of May until Thursday the 14th of June. This early dismissal will affect a total of 18 school days out of 190 school days. Please ensure your child is picked up at 2:30 p.m. Please note that the College Office will also close early during the month of Ramadan. The modified timetable will enable our students and our staff to have a shorter day during the month of Ramadan. It will also give our parents and staff enough time to go home and make preparations for iftar. I understand that some parents who are working are unable to pick their children up at 2:30 p.m. – I have had several parents approach me with this concern and we will offer them a solution to this issue. If you are unable to pick up your child at 2:30 p.m., please make an appointment to see me directly and together we will find a solution. Thank you for your co-operation. Ramadan Kareem! Assalamu Alaikum,

Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Mt Hira College,

It is an exciting but testing time for us all as the holy month of Ramadan has begun. As you are aware, the first day of fasting was this Wednesday, the 16th of May and the last day will be on Thurs-day, the 14th of June. Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramazan Bayrami) will be celebrated on Friday, 15th of June, insha-Allah.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a blessed Ramadan. May Allah accept our fasting, prayers and good deeds during this holy month.

As mentioned in the letter I sent last week, I am very happy to inform you all that we have imple-mented a modified timetable during the month of Ramadan.

May Allah protect our school and guide us all in His Straight Path – Amin.

Yours faithfully,

Head of Junior School Report

Middle School students have settled down well in their classes and are busy learning. The Year Seven students are continuing to get to know the Middle School routine, their teachers and their new friends. The Year seven and nine students attended camp during Term One to The Summit in Trafalgar and Ace-Hi in Mornington. The camps were a great bonding experience and gave all the students a chance to get to know each other a little bit more and to work in teams. In the past four weeks, we have had some special events taking place in the College. On April 23rd, we had our annual April Children’s Day Celebrations plus ANZAC Remembrance Day. On April 24th Middle School students went to Ross Reserve where students competed in dierent events for Athletics Day. On ANZAC Day (25th April) members of the Keysborough Cultural Centre, parents, teachers and College Captains (Safaa Adam, Adem Basak, Adyva Hadian and Omaid Zamani) attended the ANZAC commemorations where they honoured those who sacri-ced their lives all those years ago. We had a number of excursions during Term One and Two to Melbourne Park (Gallipoli Youth Cup), Melbourne Museum, Yakult Factory and Immigration Museum.

Core LeadersThese students were

awarded certicates and a badge during our Middle

School Assembly. We have had a few meetings and I am proud of all the

Leaders as they take initiative in assisting with

the assembly, creating Ramadan decorations and

overall, being great citizens. Well done!

I encourage all parents to contact me if they need

any help or are concerned about any aspect of their

child’s schooling.

Head of Senior School ReportAssalamu Alaykum Parents and Students,

Senior School students and teachers have had a very busy semester with many activities and events including interschool sports, Harmony Day celebrations, ANZAC Day commemorations and numerous curriculum-linked excursions. The Year Eleven students concluded Term One with an engaging VCE study retreat at Allambee Camp which focused on the develop-ment of eective study skills and strategies to manage stress.

Students should be revising for their upcoming examinations which will commence on the 1st of June and conclude on the 7th of June. The timetable will be distributed to students shortly. Year Seven to Year Ten students will have examinations for four subjects: English, Humanities, Mathematics and Science. Students in Year Eleven and Year Twelve will have an examina-tion for every VCE Unit 1 and Unit 3 course they are enrolled in. All students are advised to use their study periods eciently and prepare eectively for their examinations.

In order to assist our students with their preparation for the examinations, the College has organised study skills workshops which will be run by Elevate Education. The rst workshop will be held on Friday the 25th of May for Year Ten and Year Twelve students. They will participate in a second workshop in Semester Two. The Year Eleven students have already participated in two study skills workshops in Term One.

I am pleased to announce that several teachers have generously volunteered their time to assist students with homework completion and examination preparation. The schedule is as follows:• An English and Humanities Homework and Study Club will be held on Mondays in Room 2 from 12:34 p.m. to 1:04 p.m. • An Art Club will be held on Tuesdays in Art Room 2 from 12:34 p.m. to 1:04 p.m.• A Mathematics and Science Homework and Study Club will be held on Wednesdays in Room 2 from 12:34 p.m. to 1:04 p.m.

Melbourne Museum was the destination for all Year Eight students on 30th April. First,

they attended the Vikings: Beyond the Legend exhibition. Touring Australia for a

limited time, this stunning exhibition brought to life aspects of Viking society and trans-

port studied in class. A particular highlight was

being able to handle a Viking sword. The Rocks, Camera Action program had a tech-

nological focus. Students worked in teams to research, create and share a short movie

about an aspect of the rock cycle. Their final product was a one-minute documentary

to take back to school.
