18th MAY

2016

Dear Parents,

Trinity Feast Day

This Friday is our schools Feast Day and we will be celebrating with a Mass at Our Lady

Help of Christians at 10.30am. Parents are most welcome to come along and join us.

Upon arriving back at school the students will enjoy a sausage sizzle lunch and an icy

pole, thanks to the Parents and Friends Committee for cooking the lunch. We then

welcome you to join with us from 1:45pm for celebratory activities within the

classrooms. There will be no assembly this week due to the Feast Day celebrations.

Thanks to Kathryn Pepper for her organisation of the Feast Day.

This Sunday, the 22nd of May, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Trinity

Sunday. As this is our school’s Feast Day we will have a specific school focus at the

9.15am Mass at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish Church. We encourage all families

to join with us to celebrate this Mass as we celebrate with our wider Parish community.

District Cross-Country

Last Monday 52 of our year 3-6 students participated in the District Cross-Country at

Casey Fields. The students participated to the best of their ability and were a wonderful

advertisement for our school with their sportsmanship and behavior. Congratulations

to the 11 students who have won their way through to the zone. Thanks to Nicole

Cahill and Catrina Charman for their organisation of the event.

NAPLAN

Last week the students in years 3 and 5 completed their Government administered

NAPLAN tests. Thanks to Liz Jones for her coordination of the tests. Results will be

forwarded to parents as soon as they are made available to us.

Biggest Morning Tea

Thanks to the parents and staff who came along last Friday and supported our Biggest

Morning Tea. Well done to Sr. Joy who organised the morning.

Building Update

Work is progressing quickly on the renovation of the Marian Building. All demolition

work has been completed and the builders are now well into the construction of the

new design. At this stage we have not encountered any hold ups and remain on

schedule. Parents will notice as you walk past that the plumbing has been installed for

our new internal student toilets and if you can get a view inside you will see the new

walls being created.

As previously mentioned in earlier newsletters, after careful consideration and

discussions amongst the staff and the School Education Board, it has been decided that

the Marian Building will become the F-2 area upon its conclusion. The reasons behind

this decision are as follows;

The Marian Building will now have the capacity to house all of the F-2

classrooms, creating a junior learning hub.

At the conclusion of the whole build the external student toilets will be

removed and all toilets will be internal. Removing these existing ‘wings’ will

create a large open area just out the front of the Marian Building, an ideal

spot for junior play.

The Joyce Building will be the new Middle 3/4 area and the Allen Building

will be the Senior 5/6 area.

DONATIONS

If any Trinity families have anything they could donate to the carnival could you

please contact Michael Locandro on 0439158816 or email

[email protected]

Placing all of the junior grades in their own area as well as the middle grades will then give the

school a distinct Junior, Middle and Senior area. Currently we have F/1, 2/3/4 and 4/5/6 areas.

This will be less disruptive for the students during the building process. The F/1 students will only

move once, into their new rooms. The grade 2 students move straight back into their new rooms

at the completion of the Marian Building. The grade 3 and 4 students can remain where they

currently are until the Joyce building is completed (next to be renovated) and then all move to

their new area.

The adjustment of class areas compliments and aligns with the new learning outcomes in the

Victorian Curriculum.

Anticipated build times are;

Marian Building – Completed by late July.

Joyce Building - Commence early August and completed by mid-October.

Allen Building – Commence mid-October and completed late January.

Administration – Commence late January and completed early May

Staffing Changes

At the end of last week both Chris Meeking and Jenny Leveque tendered their resignations. Unfortunately we

were given very little notice and as a result had to quickly make some adjustments to cover their departures.

Kathleen Gatehouse will now take over the role of Library Technician as well as continuing as an Education

Support Officer when not in the Library. I thank her for her flexibility. We also welcome Suzanne Wells onto

the staff who will now be working in the canteen taking over from Kathleen. Thanks to Suzanne for her

willingness to take on a regular role. Jenny Leveque’s Educational Support Officer role will be covered

internally for the time being.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

As we celebrate our Feast Day this Friday, we focus on our school

motto of: Faith, Hope and Love Faith, hope, and love are umbrella terms under which are grouped much of what Christians believe. The Apostle Paul listed faith, hope, and love as the “big three” in 1 Corinthians 13:13, “And now these

three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Faith is being sure of something even though we cannot see it. We are sure that God loves us and that he sent Jesus to show us how to love each other.

Hope is the trust we have that God’s kingdom will be lived out on earth. We follow in Jesus’ footsteps to help this be achieved.

Love is companionship. It is the joy in our hearts and the smiles on our faces that keep us going every day.

Feast Day Celebrations… This Friday 20th May we will be celebrating our Feast Day at school. All students will be

travelling to our Parish Church, Princes Hwy Narre Warren by bus to celebrate Mass at 10.30am. We would love for you to join us there as we celebrate our school motto of faith, hope and love.

Upon the students’ return to school, they will enjoy a sausage sizzle lunch and an icy pole, generously cooked by the Parents and Friends. We then welcome you to join with us from 1:45pm for celebratory

activities within the classrooms. For safety reasons, please ensure you sign in at the Office before going down to your child’s classroom.

On Sunday 22nd May, the Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Trinity Sunday. As this is our school’s Feast Day we will be showcasing our school in our Parish, at the 9.15am Sunday Mass at

Our Lady Help of Christians Parish Church. Students will have the opportunity to participate in some of the ministries within the Mass. We encourage all families to join with us to celebrate this Mass as we join with our wider Parish community.

We look forward to a great community celebration of who we are and what we value at Trinity!

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Trinity Catholic Primary School

As we celebrate Trinity Feast Day we recall the significance of the meaning

upon which our school is named:

What do we mean by Trinity? The early Christians worshipped God, they also knew that Jesus was God and that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit who was God to be with them. This complex truth was therefore

found embodied in the use of the word Trinity. The word itself is never used in the Bible, but the Bible clearly teaches that:

God is Father: Genesis 1:1 presents God as the Creator of heaven and earth, after which the

whole Bible affirms that God the Father is the sovereign Lord over the entire universe.

God is Son: John 1:1-4 clearly teaches that Jesus (the Word) was “with God” from the very

beginning, and “was God”. That “all things where made through him…In him was life, and that life

was the light of men.” (John 1:4)

God is Holy Spirit: Jesus affirms the Trinity in Matthew 28:19 when he commissions his disciples to “go and make disciples…baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the

Holy Spirit.”

And yet…there is One God: One of the first scriptures the Jews would

teach their children was Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”

So there are three important things to remember. 1. God is three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit 2. Each person is fully God.

3. There is one God.

Trinity Catholic Primary School opened in the year 2000 with a population of 129 students and 11 teachers and we now have over 500 students and 50 staff. Trinity’s school motto is faith, hope and love, and it is with faith in God, hope in the risen Jesus

and with the love of the Holy Spirit that we provide an education that develops the whole person.

Trinity’s House Teams, Colours and Buildings are named in memory of people who have significantly contributed to the life of and history of the school.

ALLEN - Red House and Building was named in memory of Fr. John Allen who was the Parish Priest of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish. Trinity is the third school in our Parish along with Don

Bosco and Mary McKillop. MARIAN - Blue House and Building was named after Mrs Mary Howlett the foundation Principal

of Trinity.

READMAN - Green House and Building was named in memory of Fr. John Readman the foundation Parish Priest of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, Chapel of the Living Water, Narre Warren.

JOYCE - Gold House and Building was named in memory of Leo and Margaret Joyce. Leo and

Margaret were the original caretakers of Trinity. They planted many trees and garden beds, cleaned classrooms and worked long tireless hours to ensure Trinity was a welcoming, friendly and safe community for children to learn.

Their spirit lives on in the committed staff who continue to carry out the vision and mission of the

school, ensuring that the students of Trinity have the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

REALITY THERAPY

We are all artists of our own lives. We shape them, as best we can, using experiences and intuition as guides.

Reality Therapy is the method of counselling that is firmly based on Choice Theory. It is “life” and

focuses on the current issues affecting people rather than the issues they have experienced in the past. It encourages people to change any behaviour that may prevent them from finding a

solution to the issues and involves problem solving and self -reflection. Reality Therapy asks people to make the best choices possible within the reality of their own lives, to become the best person they can be. It helps people to examine what they are doing and then teaches them to

evaluate their behaviour and plan to do better. People are responsible for their own behaviour and they must accept responsibility for it in order to move forward.

The procedure commonly used in Reality Therapy that leads to change is known as the

“WDEP” system.

W Wants What do you want? (Help people clarify his or her Quality World pictures in the specific situation)

D Doing What are you currently doing to get it?

E Evaluation

Is what you are doing helping you get what you want (now or in the long run)? P Plan

Would you like to try something different? Make a plan.

When people are faced with challenging situations, a counsellor/ teacher guides the person involved through the WDEP system in the hope to bring about change. This is the method that the staff at Trinity are currently using with the students when situations arise. Next week we will

begin to explore this system in more detail.

ACTIVE KIDS ARE SMARTER KIDS

FRIDAY 20TH MAY 2016

WE’RE TAKING IT IN OUR STRIDE ON FRIDAY 20 MAY 2016

Now in its 17th year, National Walk Safely to School Day is an annual event when all

Primary School children will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It is a Community Event seeking to promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport and the

Environment.

Walk Safely to School Day asks that we all consider our transport habits and try to incorporate more walking as part of a healthy, active way to get around. And although

walking all the way to school isn’t realistic for many of us, it’s quite easy to figure out how you can build a walk into your family’s daily routine.

You can teach your child the healthy habit of walking more by:

Walking with them the whole way to school

If you have to drive, park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

Regular exercise like walking with your child not only helps them (and you!) beat chronic

problems like obesity, heart disease, behavioural and mental health issues and diabetes. It also gives you a great opportunity to teach your child safe ways to behave around roads

and traffic.

Remember, Active Kids are Smarter Kids so get planning your own Walk Safely to School

Day journey for Friday 20 May 2016!

PARISH PRIEST’S CORNER

Dear Parishioners,

In the gospel this weekend it is not too difficult to imagine the disciples overcome with fear there leader who

they loved had and hoped would be the one to lead them had just been killed and they probably thought that

they were next. How often in life do we allow fear to prevent us from being the people Jesus is calling us to be?

We can be in conversation and hearing information that we know is not true about ourselves or others and we

let it go for fear that we may cause distress or pain if we say something, we compromise ourselves.

One of the amazing gifts of our worldwide church is World Youth Day – a constant theme of the gatherings is to

be courageous disciples. I have had the privilege of attending two, Rome in 2000 and Sydney 2008. Both

events were amazing much stays with me but most importantly was the call to discipleship. I recall Pope John

Pauls Prayer “Yes dear friends. Christ loves us and he loves us for ever! He loves us even when we disappoint

him, when we fail to meet his expectations for us. He never fails to embrace us in his mercy”. Pope Benedict

said this in his homily, “Dear young people, let me now ask you a question... How are you using the gifts you

have been given, the “power” which the Holy Spirit is even now prepared to release within you? What legacy

will you leave to young people yet to come? What difference will you make?”

There is no doubting that Jesus is constantly calling us to follow him – it takes courage and generosity to

respond. When we take time to reflect on the gift of our parish we see that there are many who give so that

others may grow and many place themselves on the line, outside there comfort zone so that our community

can thrive. May the feast of Pentecost continue to inspire us to be disciples not controlled by fear but the love

of Christ? Fr Brendan

PASTORAL CARE NEWSLETTER 18th MAY 2016

CONGRATULATIONS: To Miss Murphy who became engaged over the weekend.

WE PRAY FOR: Those parents undergoing treatment for Cancer; those awaiting the results of tests; those who are expecting babies; for the needs of all our Families and for the

builders working on the renovations to our school.

BIGGEST MORNING TEA: Thank you to the 50 parents and staff who came along, those who couldn’t come but sent a donation and those who baked (for sale or for eating). A special thanks to Sofie Hollow who helped me set-up and clean

up. We were able to forward $278.00 to the Cancer council last Monday via the

ANZ Bank.

SCHOOL COOK BOOKS: In 2012 when Trinity turned a “teenager” we published our cook book of

recipes. These recipes, supplied by Parents, Staff and Friends are all composed of ingredients we all have in our cupboards and so are really family friendly, easy to cook and are very nourishing and

enjoyable to eat. We still have a number left and they are now selling for $5.00 each from the

school office or from Sister Joy.

SECOND HAND SCHOOL UNIFORMS: There are still a number of good quality winter uniform

pieces available for sale.

LOST PROPERTY BOX: This is situated just outside the door into the Hall in the Readman building. Could I ask you all to please name your child’s/children’s jumpers and jackets as this makes it much easier to return them if they are lost.

Parents please take the time to look and make sure that the jumper/jacket that your child is wearing belongs to them as there are a number

of parents whose children have mislaid theirs and often the younger

children can be wearing someone else’s clothing until it goes into the wash. Thank you.

DIARY DATE FOR DADS: YOU ARE INVITED TO THE City of Casey’s free Dad’s

Matter Campfire Night – TONIGHT! May 18th , 6-8.30pm for a night of games, drumming, marshallow toasting and a sausage sizzle at Casey Youth Hub, 52 Webb St Narre Warren. More Details: 9705 5200. So Dad take the kids out and let Mum have a

free couple of hours to herself!

MELBOURNE’S CHILD is available on the table near the door into the Hall.

CASEY COUNCIL’S ANNUAL PLANT GIVEAWAY IS ON AGAIN: Tomorrow (Thursday) and

Friday from 9am until 5pm at Fountain Gate shopping centre outside Ted’s Camera Store on the lower level from 9am – 5pm., and on Saturday from 9-12 noon ( though when I turned up on the

Saturday last year there was nothing left!)

A WORD FROM POPE FRANCIS: Doubly poor are those women who endure situations of

exclusion, mistreatment and violence, since they are frequently les able to defend their rights. Even

so we constantly witness among them impressive heroism in defending and protecting their

vulnerable families.( A Year with Pope Francis on the Family’ page 154.)
