Kristen Harford who has taken over this position and will continue more permanently in the role. Kim came to us with a wealth of experience and worked hard to establish the current programs which are running from our community hub. Thank you, Kim. We hope to have you continue your association and work with us here at BPS. The staff, kids and families have appreciated your beautiful nature and ability to grow the connections and programs for our community. Enjoy your semi- retirement’! Achieving our Learning Goals Every BPS student has individual learning goals and they strive to achieve these every day. Congratulations to Cooper in 1/2Y who has reached his goal of knowing friends of 20 and improving his use of additive strategies. Riley is also in 1/2Y. He knows his friends of 20 and can recognize numbers to 120 and beyond. Congratulations also to Taylah and Dakota in 3/4G. Taylah can complete division problems with remainders and Dakota is remembering to capitalize all proper nouns in her writing. Jack in 3/4G also achieved his learning goal last week. Jack can confidently read level 23 texts. Quality Work At Bomaderry Public, teachers ensure that their class has a clear understanding of what they need to achieve during each lesson. This explicit teaching allows students to strive to achieve high quality learning and work samples. Students know the criteria and can work hard to achieve them. Congratulations to a large number of hardworking students from 3/4G. Ms Goodman has been providing very clear expectations in her Writing lessons, relating to Australian history. Last week, Kyeton, Shanley, Taylah and Dakota all produced high quality writing which included legible, descriptive writing, using correct punctuation. They wrote excellent passages about the experience of Aboriginal people in the Sydney area when the First Fleet arrived. Josephine, Xavier and Tyra, also from 3/4G, completed descriptive writing from a characters perspective (they chose historical characters who endured trips on a First Fleet ship) and used excellent punctuation throughout. Dear Parents/Carers, Commiserations to all of the Manly Sea Eagles and Parramatta Eels supporters. The NRL has been a big BPS topic of conversation in the past couple of weeks. Ms Hanbidge even had 4 year old Rabbitohs supporters in HeadStart teasing her last week! Turns out they were right. Their Rabbits DID beat Ms Hanbidges Sea Eagles! Good luck to all of our Raiders, Storm, Rabbits and Roosters supporters. May the best team win. And also to any Richmond or GWS fans – good luck this Saturday! Some Great 2019 NAPLAN News Our Year 3 and 5 students participated in the National Assessments in May this year (NAPLAN). When we receive the results, we take time to look at patterns and data which can help us inform our teaching and learning programs. Two great news stories have come from our results, and are worth celebrating: - A large number of Year 5 students showed ABOVE the expected growth since doing the testing in Year 3. This means the results they achieved this year really showed big improvements in their 2 years of learning. Well done to the teachers and students. - In both Years 3 and 5, BPS had a large percentage of students achieving well in the Writing assessment. In fact, 39% of our Year 3 students achieved in the top 2 bands for Year 3 across Australia. And, 97% of our Year 5 participants achieved at or above the National Minimum standard for Writing. Again, well done to the teachers and students. Term 4 Please remember our school times and get ready for your Term 4 routines: Now that the weather is warming up, students will need a SCHOOL HAT FOR ALL OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES – PLAY TIMES, SPORT, EXCURSIONS, etc. Also, due to nice warm mornings, we are having students arriving earlier and earlier to school. Please do not send along your students before 8.30am. Teachers are not on duty until 8.45am. We can not provide supervision prior to this time. It is the parent/carers responsibility and duty of care. Thank you – please try to have your alarms and morning routines to reflect this for Term 4, starting on Monday October 14th. Goodbye and Good Luck to Some Staff Members It is a temporary goodbye to our amazing Assistant Principal, Mrs Kristy Brown. Mrs Brown finished school last Friday to head off on her maternity leave. She only has 3 weeks until her third bundle of joy is due to arrive. We wish Mrs Brown and her family all the best for the new arrival and cant wait to meet the new baby. It is a different sort of farewell, to the wonderful Mrs Kim Harley. Kim will finish her very successful stint as our NEST community centre facilitator this week. Kim joined us last year and helped us establish the NEST. She has more recently worked as a mentor for Mrs Term 3 - Week 10 23rd September 2019

Jump Rope For Heart Thank you to ALL the students who got involved with Jump Rope for Heart! A huge thank you for the effort, skipping and fundraising for the Jump Rope for Heart program this term. Together we raised an incredible $1500 and this money will all go towards vital heart research and education programs. We loved seeing so many smiling faces skipping on the playground and in sports lessons. Our Jump Off Day is tomorrow! Here’s our school leader board, congratulations to our top fundraisers! Keep up the skipping and thanks again for the hard work! Lacey (1/2F) Amy (K/1S) Samuel (3/4G) Jason (K/1S) Rose (3/4S)

Leisure Sports – Ready for Term 4 Our wonderful Leisure Sports program will continue in Weeks 2-6 next Term. Today all students in Years 3-6 made their selections and will now need to chase up permission notes and payments for the sports which require them (please note; sports at school do not require additional permission and some outside activities do not require payment). Please chat with your Primary-ages students to chase up their Leisure Sports choices/requirements. We are thrilled to be offering some ongoing options as well as some very new and exciting ones; croquet, lawn bowls, mini-golf at school, swimming, rock climbing, dance, martial arts, walking, athletics, T-ball, Cricket and Hockey. Enrol Now for Kinder 2020 Please help spread the word about 2020 – All students living in our Bomaderry area can enrol now and find out about all of the programs BPS has to offer. Please remind your family, friends and neighbours who have eligible students. They can call in to our office to collect an information/enrolment pack. Positive Behaviour for Learning REMEMBER: PJ Day this Thursday Big congratulations are in order for all BPS students. We hand out ‘blue bommos’ in the playground when students are ‘caught’ doing the right thing! These bommos make their way to our acknowledgment rocket – aiming high! The blue bommos inside the rocket have now reached a level which requires some fun and special acknowledgment. So, on Thursday, the whole school will enjoy a movie and popcorn in the hall. Staff will organize this special event and we have decided to add a mufti day to the mix! Students (and staff) are welcome to WEAR PYJAMIAS to school on THURSDAY also. There will be a gold coin donation required for mufti – this will help us fund a future acknowledgment when the rocket is completely FULL!
