term or next to donate half a day to the canteen to help make sure this resource remains viable. Many local schools are unable to maintain a canteen of this standard each school day. As Sturt P.S is all about developing the whole child, it is essential we keep this valuable resource maintained. I realise many parents work, however if there can be just one half day donated between now and the end of the year, we would be covered. Unfortunately it is a legal requirement that children are not allowed in the canteen area. I would like to take this opportunity to thank those parents who have filled in many times, when Jo has been left shorthanded. Without you our students would have missed out. If you are able to select at least one time slot, please return the slip to school and we can work out a roster from there. We are grateful for any support. Mrs Kerry Baker PRINCIPAL

SNOWY

2018

In Week 10 of Term 2 Snowy celebrated NAIDOC week. The students researched significant Indigenous women

who have shaped our nation.

Snowy love investigating and researching on the internet.

We also love completing spelling and writing activities on our laptops.

Check out our 3D artwork where we learnt how to make our initials POP from the page!

STURT P.S CODES OF BEHAVIOUR

This week we are looking at the code Be an active learner.

We will be discussing how to Attend school each day.

HELPING YOUR CHILD TO LEARN

Let’s get back to Basics - Part 1 Children cannot even think at the maturity level needed to break a behavior cycle, let alone do anything about it. So as parents and educators, it has to start with us. The foundation for well-adjusted children always starts with the parents, with educators supporting the child to become a well-adjusted adult. Boundaries No brainer, right? But… it’s hard to set boundaries and stick to them. This is especially true when kids push back, scream endlessly or threaten things like, “I hate you.” Remember when kids act this way they are meeting their own needs in the only way they know how. Depending on the boundary, it can take a long time before a child lovingly accepts a parent’s boundary. When children start to push back or scream less, this is actually your child moving towards acceptance of the boundary. If you boundary is like a wall (and not a door that confusingly swings open from time to time) your child will bounce and eventually work to meet his or her needs in an alternate way. The world is a very chaotic place. Boundaries help your child, not only feel grounded, but thrive. Check yourself and think about what your real boundaries are. Then remember they’re brick walls, not doors. Routines There’s so much of childhood that is new and challenging for kids. Learning self-control and empathy; learning how to be a friend and interact with others. These are all very BIG things for kids. Using something as simple as routine charts can help kids feel grounded and relaxed. In fact, knowing what to expect at mealtimes, mornings and bedtimes can bring a sense of relief to even the most carefree child. Have a strong-willed child? Even better, routines allow kids to feel a sense of control, something that is very important to a strong-willed child. Deb Imrie Learning & Support Team

CANTEEN NEWS Please consider helping in the canteen - once a term,

once a month, when you have some time. It all helps.

Sturt canteen is a P&C run canteen, so we need our

community families to help keep the canteen running.

We have an employed manager. All you need to do is

turn up. Canteen “normal” volunteer time is 10am -

1.30pm, however any time you have is an enormous

help. We do need more people on the roster. Half an

hour on the roster is very much appreciated.

Thanks Joanne Klimpsch & Sturt P&C

SCHOOL CANTEEN NETWORK PROJECT

On July 20th I was lucky to be included in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District 2018 Excellence Award Night. We won the “Focus on Wellness” category for the work promoting healthy canteens in our local area in the last 2 years. It was a group award and I was thrilled to have been included to represent our network. Joanne Klimpsch

It’s Twilight Time!! We would like to announce that the 2018, 5th Annual Twilight market is now open for bookings. Anyone wishing to book a stall can go to the booking link at https://www.trybooking.com/395607 and follow the prompts. We would also like to form a stronger committee this year, so if we could get some more parents or even grandparents to take on a little role at the market it would be greatly appreciated. This is our major fundraiser and we have been able to achieve a lot with the money raised, but we need more help as we have had a few families move on to high school. Please email [email protected] or call or text Romola on 0421828365. Let’s make 2018 even better than the ones before.

ICAS AWARDS ICAS Certificates for Digital Technologies and Science will be handed out to students at the next Combined Assembly on Monday 13 August at 1.45pm. All parents and carers are invited to attend.

LOST PROPERTY Please remember to label all items including clothing and lunch containers. Our clothing pool is overflowing with unidentified uniforms. Any unclaimed items will be sent to the clothing pool at the end of the term.
