PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Dear Parents,

What an absolutely wonderful Mini-Mos & Fair!!

I think we broke all records in every aspect of the day. I have seen many Mini-Mos & Fair Days in my time at MPS and this one was probably the best I can remember, with perfect weather and perfect organisation! The most wonderful aspect of the day is the amazing community spirit generated which far surpasses the fundraising.

I hope I have not left anyone out; so many people gave so much of their time and energy to ensure the success of the Mini-Mos & Fair. On behalf of the children, teachers and the charities, a heartfelt thank you! The weather was not quite so kind for our Athletics Carnival, nevertheless, the MPS spirit abounded in plenty despite the cold conditions.

Special thanks to:

All Year 3 – 6 students who ran so well and demonstrated fantastic sportsmanship and support of each other,

Stephen Dowler for your wonderful, efficient organisation and management of the carnival,

Years 3-6 teachers for your energy and hard work in ensuring that the carnival ran smoothly,

All parent helpers for your magnificent support in so many ways – we could not do it without you. Congratulations and well done all !

Semester 1 Reports will go home with all students on Monday, please check your child’s bag and let us know if you have not received yours.

This will be the last Whaler for Term 2, thank you for your support throughout the term and I wish you all a safe and happy holiday. Please remember that the last day of term for all students is Thursday June 28th and that school resumes for everyone on Monday July 16th.

Best Wishes, Kate Cooper

STUDENT HAPPENINGS

Grandparents and Special Visitors Day

Yesterday my dad came in for Special Visitors Day. I asked dad questions about when he was a little boy. Then dad went down to the hall. He took pictures. Wow! It was fun! Piran 1J Yesterday we had a big concert. My grandparents are Gerald and Judy. My grandparents got the front seat! They loved it. Michaela 1J Yesterday it was Grandparents Day. My visitors’ names were Go Go, Ganfa and Alex. We went on the stage and I had tears of joy, it was in my eyes. Thomas 1J

Yesterday it was Grandparents and Special Visitors Day. My special guest was my mum. First we had to fill in a form. She lived in Hong Kong. I love her very much. After we filled in our form we got to draw a picture. I had to draw her and she had to draw me. We got to have a photo of me and my mum. Later we did our grandparents concert. We did 3 songs and 1 poem. We had to bring a photo of us when we were a baby because Ms Polito was going to make a movie for the concert. The poem was called “The Moon”, I learned it in one week, and it was very easy. There were 3 verses, it is very long. I loved the concert it was very cool. I hope there’s going to be another one. After the concert we got afternoon tea. My mum gave me a piece of cake with strawberries. It was very yummy. Archie 1J

Yesterday it was Grandparents and Special Visitors Day. My special visitor was my daddy. First I showed my daddy the art works I did. Then I asked him some questions about when he was a child. After that he drew a picture of me and I drew a picture of him. After we drew the pictures we did a concert. Kit 1J Yesterday we had Grandparents and Special Visitors Day. First we interviewed each other. Next we danced to “Love is in the Air.” After, we sang our school song. Then we said a poem called “The Moon”. (It was very loud). We watched a movie Ms Polito had been making for months. Then we danced to “You Make Me Feel Like Dancing” and “Reach”. Oscar 1J

A big thank you to all our guests for visiting us on this special day.

Year 5 C.A.R.E.S Bike Safety Excursion

On Monday the 4th June my class went to C.A.R.E.S Bike Safety. At C.A.R.E.S we learnt heaps of things like signalling, the right helmets to wear and the road rules. They showed us movies to do with safety and what to do when you’re riding your bike on the road. They helped us ride our bikes around an obstacle course. After lunch we rode around a mini-road which was exactly like a real road but for bikes! We were given yellow licenses and every time we did something wrong they would cross out a number. When we left C.A.R.E.S, I felt heaps more confident about the road. Lydia 5P

I went to C.A.R.E.S on Thursday 7th June. I learnt how to obey the road rules. I enjoyed riding on the mini-road, getting my bike license and going on the obstacle course. On the mini-road there were traffic lights, road signs, a children’s crossing and a pedestrian crossing. I wish I could go again! Harrison 5P

Firstly, when we got to C.A.R.E.S we learned about road rules and road safety. There were 2 policemen and they told us about the Australian Standard stickers that you must have when you go bicycle riding. After that we all got our bikes and we did a little practice with our bikes to learn how to turn swiftly and to stop at the stop signs. After recess we watched a video about what to do when you’re out and about. Then we had lunch, after lunch we rode around the bike track. The track had traffic lights, roundabouts, give-way signs and everything you would see on the road. C.A.R.E.S was very educational and fun! Izzy 5D

Firstly we got on the bus and drove to C.A.R.E.S and it took about 1 hour. When we got there a real police officer was there and she spoke to us about road safety! After that we got helmets and our bikes! The bikes were BMX bikes and were really cool! On the helmets there are special stickers which are Australian proved. The sticker looks like a rectangle which is red and has white ticks! After we got our helmets on we started riding. We did a practice first. We had to go around cones then drive in a straight line. Next we looked left then right then we drove in a lane with our left or right hand out. We did this for about 30 minutes then we had recess. Recess was about 20 minutes where everyone was running around! After that we went inside this room and watched a couple of movies about bike safety. We then finally rode our bike without training. We went on a special bike track and there were traffic lights, speed bumps and a roundabout! It was great fun at C.A.R.E.S and I wish I could go back! Kyle 5D

CREATIVE AND PERFORMING ARTS Well what can I say! Band Camp was amazing. We really do have the best kids in the world. They were hard working, courteous and just a little bit outrageous when needed. The weather was kind and after two days we really had fulfilled every expectation of the camp. A massive thank you to Victoria Harding, Tracy Miles, Josie De Monchaux, Charmion Rowe, Michelle McKinnon and their endless list of helpers. Also great thanks to Brad Madigan, Doug Cotterill, Malcolm Martin and all the tutors. Last, but not least, to the teacher helpers, Fiona Davis, Steve Dowler, Scott Bagnall and Leisha Scott. The pictures tell the story.

NEUROENDOCRINE CANCER AWARENESS

CHALLENGE

Neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are uncommon cancers that arise from cells

mainly found in the gastrointestinal tract of the body.

They present with symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhoea, breathlessness, wheezing, flushing (redness) of the skin and are confused with more common conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and asthma. This confusion delays proper diagnosis and proper treatment for many years.

NOW YOU KNOW A LITTLE ABOUT NETS, TAKE THE

CHALLENGE!

1. Visit www.unicornfoundation.org.au

2. Complete the 3 easy questions and register your details 3. Be in the running for some great prizes

This challenge finishes on the 1st of July, so HURRY!

WHY THE UNICORN?

"The unicorn is the only fabulous beast that does not seem to have been conceived out of human fears. In even the earliest references he is fierce yet good, selfless yet solitary, but always mysteriously beautiful. He

could be captured only by unfair means, and his single horn was said to neutralize poison”.
