Term 4 Week 5 25 October 2018
Message from the Principal
Welcome Back
I would like to welcome back all families, including those that have recently joined our community, as we move quickly into
what will no doubt be an exciting final term for the year. There are a number of fantastic events planned across the school and
I look forward to outstanding achievements in many areas for our students.
Kindergarten Orientation
Yesterday the school hosted the first of three Kindergarten Orientation sessions. The Early Stage 1 and support teams led by
Assistant Principal, Ms Lennon provided an introductory classroom experience for the boys and girls whilst family members
attended an information session in the hall. It was fantastic to welcome siblings of current students as well as many new
students and families into the Sans Souci Public School Community. Thank you to our current Kindergarten students and
families who provided morning tea for the parents and to the canteen managers and volunteers who gave their time this
morning. We look forward to the second session next Wednesday at 9:30am.

Kogarah Network Public Speaking Competition
Yesterday three SSPS students represented the school at the Kogarah Network Public Speaking Competition held at Carlton
South PS. Lily T (Stage 1), Zachary M (Stage 2) and Felicia D (Stage 3) all performed exceptionally well and both Zachary and
Felicia won their respective competitions! The competition involved a number of schools from the Kogarah Network and was
of a very high standard. Both students will progress to the Regional competition late this year. We are extremely proud of this
wonderful achievement.

Film by The Sea premiers at V-Max
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the premier of the Year 2 short film ‘Mathman’ which featured at the Film by the Sea
Festival at Miranda V-Max cinema. Many stars from 2P and their families were [present and the film received a fantastic
response from the audience. The students watched a number of fantastic short films produced by schools across the Ultimo
network. Thanks to Mrs Pontifex for coordinating the entire experience from start to finish and to Rodger Corser (Parent from
2P) who gave up his time to work with the class in filming and post production. A link to the film will be posted on the school
website shortly.
Police Band Workshop and Performance
Today the students were treated to a performance from the NSW Police Band. The performance followed a workshop
conducted by the Police Band with the Performing band. The Performing Band even had the opportunity to perform with the
Police Band in front of the whole of K-6. Thanks again to Mrs Genge who organised this fabulous opportunity for the students!

Athletes at the NSW Athletics Carnival
Next week the school has five students competing at the NSW Athletics carnival at the Homebush Olympic Centre. The
school’s senior girls’ relay team Ines G, Ava P, Keira B and Elektra A and will fly the Sans Souci flag as will Ava in the 100 and
200m, Keira in the 800m and long jump events and Theodore F in the discus. We wish the students every success and I’m sure
you will join me in acknowledging this outstanding achievement.
Kindergarten Playground Improvements
Over the holidays the first stage of a series of playground enhancements was installed. The playground now has two timber
forts, a number of large rubber animals to climb on, balance beams and an Aboriginal yarning circle for outdoor education. A
retaining wall has also been built to optimise the safety of students playing near the south border fence. The next stage, soon
to be installed will be a large raised sandpit and dry creek bed under the shade shelter. Hopefully by the end of the year, the
lunch platform area will also have synthetic grass installed. Many of these improvements have been made possible by the
generosity of our active P&C association.

Changes to normal routines for picking up students after school
On some occasions parents and carers may require a change to normal arrangements for the collection of their child(ren) after
school. If this involves another adult being given a parent/carer’s permission to collect their child, it is important that the
school is aware of the change to normal routine. A phone call to the school office or a note sent into the class teacher prior to
the altered arrangements taking place will ensure that there is no confusion around students being picked up from school by a
different person. If parents and carers are running late due to unforeseen circumstances, a phone call to the office prior to
3pm would be appreciated and will prevent children and parents from worrying about a child’s safety. Parents and Carers
should not pick up other students from school unless the school, classroom teacher has had approval from the child’s parents
or carers. Parents should also ensure that the school has updated details for emergency contacts. Please contact the school if
you require clarification on these matters.
School Uniform Standards
Sans Souci PS has a fine reputation within the community for the high standard of school uniform. The majority of students
come to school on a daily basis proudly wearing full school uniform. It is vital that parents and carers support the school’s
efforts to maintain this standard by ensuring that all students are wearing the approved summer, winter or sport uniforms on
any given day. At this time of year full summer uniform is to be worn, including black school shoes. On specified days involving
sport or PE activities students are permitted to wear sports shoes instead of black school shoes. Students are required to wear
a school hat for all outside activities, including lunch and fruit break. Non-school coloured hats, jackets and other garments are
not permitted. Parents are reminded that clean/washed second hand uniform spares are available from the canteen for $2 per
item. I trust all families will do their best to ensure the high standard of school uniform continues at Sans Souci! If you have
any questions about school uniforms, please don’t hesitate in contacting me.
‘Tell Them from Me’ Partners in Learning and Student Surveys
Thank you to all parents who have completed the ‘Partners in Learning’ Survey. This coming Friday is the last day before the
survey closes and I encourage any parents to complete this 15 minute anonymous online survey. Data collected will assist the
school in making future decisions that enhance our students’ educational experience. The survey can be found through the
