Staffing I am pleased to announce that Ms Lisa Clarke (a very familiar face in our school) and teacher of KC has recently been appointed through the staffing procedure as a permanent member of the Wattle Grove teaching team after many years of service to our school and students. Ms Ashley Solo has also been appointed to Wattle Grove commencing in 2018. Ms Solo is a teacher who has been identified through the graduation recruitment program to become part of our team. There are two more teaching positions that will be filled through merit selection procedures which have been advertised this week and will be announced before the end of the term. I am very pleased to see our teaching team grow and be enhanced by high quality professionals who will contribute beyond classroom teaching to enhance our additional programs. Holsworthy Challenge Cup Every term, 4 of our Year 5 students compete in the local Holsworthy High School Challenge to win the cup for their school against Hammondville Public School and Holsworthy Public School. This week our superstars Prisha, Carlo, Ella and Mia got their ‘freak on’ in a mathematical cooking competition called ‘Freak Shake’. Well done team and we look forward to continuing this program with our local community schools in 2018.

Class Formation Process: Repeat The school structure and the formation of classes at Wattle Grove Public School is governed by the Department of Education staffing formula. A school structure that best meets the needs of students and teachers will be designed by staff

and ratified by the Principal. The Principal has the delegated authority to determine the final make up of classes. Today our numbers indicate that we will remain with 25 classes in 2018. Students will be allocated to classes by the teaching and executive staff, with the assistance of the Learning Support Team. If you feel there is information of educational reasoning that should be considered when planning for 2018 classes, you are welcome to put this in writing to the Deputy Principal, Mrs Wilson by tomorrow Friday 17 November. Requests for particular teachers will not be considered and is highly discouraged. The classroom teachers who have in-depth knowledge of your children’s abilities and school behaviours are experienced professionals in making these decisions. We appreciate that you trust our professional judgement taking into account the multitude of factors that influence the placement of over 600 children. Student Reports Teachers are now finalising Semester Two student reports which will be sent home in the coming weeks. If you have any concerns or questions about the report, you are more than welcome and encouraged to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss the report. What a responsive community We’d like to thank you as a school community for your support of our high value on wearing correct uniform, showing pride in our school. At the start of the term, there were some non-uniform items creeping in. It’s so pleasing to see multi-coloured large bows, headbands and jumpers being replaced by small green, yellow or white hair accessories. It reflects a sense of pride and team work when our students show pride in wearing our team uniform. Thank you.

Remembrance Day Service On Thursday 9th November WGPS held our annual Remembrance Day Service, Thank you to Mr Harvey for setting up the podium and to Nanna Handcock for the beautiful hand knitted poppies, students enjoyed selling the poppies at the gate and were able to donate over $700 to Legacy Sydney.

Are you

moving? If you are posting out or moving school this year please make sure you contact the office/classroom teacher and DSTA to inform of students last day of school and where you will be moving to. This information is much appreciated and is vital for future planning.

School Posting Passport Do you have one of these? Families that are posting out, could you please send your existing School Posting Passports to School with your children for stamping.

Students that have not changed schools before and are posting out, the passport will be sent home on their last day of school. Deployments and Absence Please make sure you let your child’s teacher or I know if a member of your family is away for an extended period of time. Having this knowledge will go towards supporting the student at school throughout the absence period. Kim Lazarevic Defence School Transition Aide
