PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
EDUCATION WEEK Thank you to all family and friends who attended our Education Week functions. The COS
Concert was once again a great night, showcasing the variety of talents of our students. Most
importantly it was very obvious how much they enjoyed the experience.
Our Open Day was equally successful with the abilities of our students on show and family and
friends invited into classrooms to experience the quality learning which takes place at Holsworthy
Public School.
Thank you very much to all staff, students, family and community members who made Education
Week a great success.
DRAMA FESTIVAL It was my absolute pleasure to attend the “In the Spotlight Drama Festival” last week. Our drama
group was selected to perform at this prestigious festival following their outstanding performance
at “Primary Play Day”. The students spent a whole day at the National Institute of Dramatic Art
(NIDA), participating in workshops delivered by expert tutors. They then performed their item as
part of the festival that night. Their performance was truly outstanding. What is particularly
impressive is the fact that their item was created and developed by themselves, with assistance
from our teachers and a Play Day tutor.
This is a wonderful experience for our students and I’m sure will provide great memories for
themselves and family alike.
I’d like to thank Ms Wilks, Mrs Sansom and Miss Grayson for their great work and dedication
which has enabled our young actors to perform at such a high level.
SCIENCE DAY At the time of writing Science Day is in full swing. Students have been having great fun, attending
the shows and participating in a variety of science activities. Our mufti day supporting Kaitlin has
been very successful. Thank you very much to everyone who dressed in mufti and made a
donation.
Community Charter: We work together with the school.
COS CONCERT 2019
Congratulations to all student performers on a successful COS (Community of Schools) Concert.
The COS Concert is an annual concert showcasing the talents of students from Holsworthy
Public School, Hammondville Public School, Wattle Grove Public School and Holsworthy High
School. This year also featured a COS Art Gallery including Indigenous-inspired artworks.
Last Tuesday, our school’s Drama Ensemble, Senior Dance Troupe and Junior Dance Group
dazzled audiences at the matinee and evening concerts. A special congratulations goes to our
student dancers who were impressive in the COS Dance Ensemble. The Holsworthy Public
students made us all very proud not only in their performances but also with their excellent
behaviour.
It was wonderful to see all the parents/caregivers, families, friends and special guests enjoying
the concert. Thank you to the COS Concert Committee for creating lasting memories and to the
staff and families for their invaluable support.
YEAR 2 HOLSWORTHY HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE VISIT
On Tuesday 13 August, Year 2 students visited Holsworthy High School to participate in a fun
filled Science session ran by Year 10 students and Science teachers. The students had an
amazing experience participating in hands on experiments and engaging in scientific discussions.
WOOLWORTHS BLAST CRICKET TOURNAMENT
Last Thursday, a number of students from Years 3-6 competed in the annual Woolworths Blast Cricket Tournament. This event was the perfect opportunity for students to engage in cricket and learn more about the sport. Holsworthy Public School had quite a successful day, with both senior boys’ teams competing against each other in the finals. As there can only be one winner, one of the senior boys’ teams and the senior girls’ team came first in their competition. Both of these teams will be progressing to the regional final at a later date. Furthermore, one of the junior boys’ teams was undefeated on the day which is a fantastic effort. We would like to congratulate all the girls and boys who attended on the day as their sportsmanship and behaviour were outstanding. The details of the regional final will be provided to students once they are confirmed.
Mr Sammut and Miss Diaz
YEAR 4 AND YEAR 5 CAMP PAYMENT REMINDER
A reminder that final payment for both the Year 4 and Year 5 camp MUST be paid in full by Wednesday 4 September (Week 7). This is to ensure attendance numbers can be finalised with the camp venues. A reminder note for both camps will be sent home in Week 6. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school.
LIBRARY NEWS
Book Week Book Character Parade
Our annual Book Character Parade will take place on Thursday 29th August. All students are encouraged to participate and family and friends are invited to attend to share in this fun event.
Book Fair The parade will be followed by the opening of the Book Fair in the library. All visitors are welcome to visit the Fair to purchase books for family or friends, or perhaps to select a book to donate to the library. The fair will be open at other times on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Classes will come to the library to view or purchase books during this time. We hope everyone will come to visit the library over these days.
Book Week Performance- Big Dreams Students have received notes about this performance to be held on Friday 30th August. In library we are currently reading the short listed Book Week books that will be featured in this production. The students have really enjoyed this event over the past few years and are looking forward to taking part in this experience again. Please ensure that your students don't forget to return the note and payment.
Premier's Reading Challenge
The PRC will conclude on Friday 30th August. All students in years 3 to 6 must have their books entered into their PRC reading log by this date. If
any student needs assistance please see Mrs Tipping in the library.
Book Club Issue 5 of Book Club has been ordered and will be distributed to the students upon arrival. Thank you for ordering as both Book Club and the Book Fair allow us to add more resources to the school and library to enrich your student's educational experience. Mrs Tipping and Miss Grayson

POEMS BY 3/4C
Day in day out, things never change. Now, how can there be no rain The cry of suffering animals, pierces the morning skies. Staring, into the red land My eyes start to water, as I squeeze my dad’s hand Oh when. Oh when will the lawn be green again? Mt father’s dumbfounded face Fills my day with joy The pitter patter sound. Ohh so I missed you Dancing in the rain, like the world has never been better
Jade Vickers
Drought Red dust flooding every where
Please wake me up from this nightmare Animals dropping one by one
As dad stares at the scorching sun. The drought has come
It can’t be stopped It’s dusty and gritty
But it should be soft. Oh drought Oh Drought
Please go away So our animal can graze
It would truly amaze Krishna Kummara
Staring into the landscape of red dirt The animals rejected by weather- yes, it hurt!
So hopeless and without any luck
The taste of stale bread, Oh yuck!
The blazing sun, which scorched us all Why, why wouldn’t the rain fall?
The powdery dust that danced in the breeze
When would the drought ever cease?
The sweat that was trickling down my head
Soon the animals would be dead
The crunch of leaves beneath my feet When would we even get a treat?
Not a single second of rest spared
Anxious, tired and scared
My family and animals not well fed. Hopeless, tired and exhausted
Finally, the clouds roll in and cover the skies
It’s time for nature’s surprise! The downpour of rain falls down fast
I sighed happily, “At last…”

Drought
I remember the start of the drought When the sun shone non-stop And the water in our water tank dropped. After a few months of the blue-soaked sky The poor animals started to die. Falling onto dust, rocks and sand. Dad touched the ground gently. What was once rich, brown soil, Had turned into hard, dry rock. At night, The cries of thirst from the animals pierced the night, Echoing through the dark. Three months passed And then… A soft thudding on the roof, It was rain! Olivia Li
