KIWANIS STUDENT OF THE MONTH

AWARD

Each month at Mount Slesse, teachers are asked to submit the names of students that go above and beyond to make our school a better place. These students could contribute to our school in a variety of ways including academics, leadership, sports, fine arts, or citizenship. The Kiwa-nis Club generously recognizes these our award winners at a Student of the Month breakfast twice per year. One of the teachers who nominated these students described them as young people who

“exemplify what it means to be a positive student and solid citizen. They try their hardest to do well. They are conscientious and considerate of others. They are inclusive and non-judgmental.”

Congratulations to this semester’s Mount Slesse Middle School Kiwanis Students of the Month:

Estera Braila Owen Malto Leila Pupic Aliya TeBokkel Zoey Watson

TIMBERWOLVES ATHLETICS

Timberwolves student-athletes were kept busy all winter with basketball practices and league play. Grade 7 Girls were coached by Ms. Armstrong and Mrs.Lainchbury. We had a large turnout of Grade 7 Boys so we decided to run two teams. Coach Ellert was the Head Coach, with support from Assistant Coaches Katherine Browne and David Brodie. Our grade 7s had very successful seasons.

Our grade 8 teams made the leap up to very competitive basketball. They worked hard and battle for spots in the playoffs. Both the Grade 8 Girls and the Grade 8 Boys made playoffs. The girls were coached by Ms. Savich and the Grade 8 Boys were coached by Mr. DiPasquale.

Perhaps the most fun for many of us was watching our Grade 9 teams succeed. We had a huge bench of Grade 9 Boys who were so committed and so enthusiastic. They supported each other and were great ambassadors for Mount Slesse Athletics. They were coached by Slesse Alumni, current Sardis students Nate Fortnum and Thomas Janzen, with Vicki Leyland acting as Team Manager.

The Grade 9 Girls have been a force to reckon with on the court. They used strategy and had great coaching to help them overcome some injuries early in the season. Coach Downey celebrated each of their wins as stepping stones towards the playoffs. We are so proud of these girls for persevering in the face of a challeng-ing season.

This week wraps up basketball and we look forward to spring sports just around the corner. Keep an eye on

the Athletics page of our school website to find out more information about Girls and Boys Rugby, Girls

Soccer, Track and Field, and some fun Volleyball clinics. Go Timberwolves!

TC Training Camps include instruction from a team of qualified and experienced coaches. The emphasis during these training sessions is individual skill development and team concepts.
