CHAPTER I TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE AWARD

1. OBJECTIVE

The Innovation Award, developed within the framework of Expoalimentaria, aims at recognizing and awarding the presenters’ endeavors to conceive, develop and launch innovative products in the national and/or international market.

2. PARTICIPANTS

2.1. All Peruvian and foreign companies registered as presenters in the eleventh edition of the EXPOALIMENTARIA FAIR, 2019, may participate.

2.2. Participants shall belong to the food and beverage sector, according to the award category.

2.3. Submit with the complete filling of the online registration form.

3. REQUIREMENTS

3.1. Have an innovative product1 in the market no more than one (1) year, specifically in the period of time between April 2018 and March 2019.

3.2. Presenting a formal statement unconditionally accepting the terms and conditions hereof, as well as the Jury’s decisions.

3.3. Presenting the registration form and questionnaire duly filled, including the annexes supporting the product’s innovation, within the time and according to the format established for this edition.

3.4. Delivering the total product samples required for assessment, before the deadline and in the location indicated.

4. TERMS AND CONDITIONS

4.1. ON THE PARTICIPATING PRODUCT

4.1.1. Each company may present one or up to three products in total, in one or more

categories. Each application is independent and may participate in up to three categories.

4.1.2. The participating product shall not have been a finalist in former editions of the Innovation Award. However, a product that proves it has gone through an innovative and substantial change2 (new product with outstanding changes in its conception, composition, quality process technology, design, packing, etc.) that was not presented before may participate.

4.1.3. Eligible products includes both third-range - “ready to eat” products (ready for human consumption), products targeting the RETAIL sector and products targeting the HORECA sector (Hotels, restaurants and catering).

4.1.4. Products shall have sanitary authorizations issued by the competent authority of the company’s country of origin (in Peru it is DIGESA).

4.1.5. The products presented shall have gone through a transformation process3, inputs shall not be presented.

4.1.6. Those products in which concepts of incremental market innovation, radical innovation or significant improvement innovation have been applied shall be eligible.

4.1.7. All products shall be presented in their final package (primary or secondary), since it will be also subject to the Jury’s assessment. Once the deadlines have expired no package changes or replacements shall be accepted.

4.1.8. Products under study shall not be admitted. 4.1.9. Products with a reduced expiration date and/or those requiring a special

treatment (for instance, refrigeration) shall include an indication about it in the registration form, before being delivered.

4.1.10. The products must be presented in perfect physical condition (without breaks, blows or any type of damage), for a correct evaluation.

4.2. SAMPLE DELIVERY

4.2.1. Participating companies are responsible for tracking and delivering their

products for the Jury’s assessment.

4.2.2. International companies shall consider that the organization shall not be held

liable for delays in customs or caused by other control entities4.

5. ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Assessment criteria are made according to the requirements that the Organizing Committee of

Expoalimentaria 2019 has identified significant for the participant products to be considered

INNOVATIVE. Such products shall show a measurable creativity contribution and beneficial

impact.

5.1. PRODUCT CRITERIA

Product innovation shall be considered in terms of creativity, type of innovations and

adaptability to current food trends. These criteria provide no more than 30 points

distributed as follows:

5.1.1. NOVELTY AND INNOVATION (0 - 5)

It is the contribution of a product, significantly improved, in terms of its

technical characteristics or in terms of its use or other functionalities, the

improvement is achieved with knowledge or technology, with improvements

in materials, in components, or in an integral way.

It is evaluated to what extent R & D results are incorporated, if the product

responds to needs that are not covered by others and if it is presented in a

novel way.

To consider it innovative, a product must present characteristics and

differentiated performances of the existing products.

5.1.2. ORIGINALITY (0 - 5)

It assesses if it matches or organizes well-known elements or concepts and

turns them into something different. Also, if it is original (unique) or has been

creatively adapted for consumption by the target market.

5.1.3. PRACTICITY (0 - 5)

It assesses to what extent the product responds efficiently in its use and

adaptation to new life styles.

5.1.4. HEALTH (0 - 5)

The extent to which the product is related to a proactive and responsible

attitude towards the promotion of one's own well-being and health is

evaluated. In addition to its usual nutritional effects, it has biological

compounds (nutrients or non-nutrients), with a selective positive effect added

to one or several functions of the organism that have beneficial effects on

health, improving it or reducing the risks.

5.1.5. SENSORY ASSESSMENT (0 - 5)

It is the examination of the organoleptic properties of a product that can be

made with the human senses. In other words, it is the evaluation of the

appearance, smell, aroma, texture and flavor of a food or raw material. As well

as those directly related to taste (color, taste, smell and texture)

5.1.6. SHELF LIFE (0 - 5)

It is the time that elapses from the production or packaging, to the point where

it loses its physical-chemical and organoleptic properties, and it is a term

defined by the company that produces it, under proofs that prove it. The useful

life of a food is limited by various factors that influence its deterioration, so

that it is suitable for the target market.

5.2. PACKING ASPECT

Innovation is also assessed in the product’s packaging, and how it serves its purpose

minimizing the environmental impact and satisfying the consumer’s needs. These criteria

award a maximum of 30 points, distributed as follows:

5.2.1. INNOVATION (0 - 5)

It assesses how the package provides a more comfortable format at the time

of consuming the real product, satisfying the consumer’s needs.

5.2.2. LEVEL OF PROTECTION (0 - 5)

It assess to what extent the package protects the product from handling and

contact with elements that may damage or contaminate it.

5.2.3. IMAGE AND DESIGN (0 - 5)

It assess to what extent the package allows a proper identification of the

product, attracts the customer’s attention and makes transportation easier.

5.2.4. CONVINIENCE AND PRACTICALITY (0 - 5)

It assess to what extent the package simplifies and reduces preparation and

consumption time.

5.2.5. MATERIAL AND POST SALE VALUE (0 - 5)

It assess to what extent the packages are made of recyclable, biodegradable

and/or compostable materials. It considers the impact generated once the

product is consumed: package reutilization or disposal convenience

(degradation time and environmental impact).

5.2.6. LABEL INFORMATION AND PERFORMANCE (0 - 5)

It assess to what extent labeling provides the consumer with information

referring to ingredients, properties, use, advantages and benefits of the

product, among others. It assesses where the label is placed, readability,

brand’s position, and mandatory registrations.

The assessment shall abide by the requirements of the regulatory authority (in

Peru it is DIGESA) and by the requirements of the countries where the product

is commercialized. For instance, in USA the government demands for canned

food to be labeled. The law requires double labeling for manufactured food:

general food labeling and nutrition facts, and in addition one bar code with the

product’s data. However, there are special provisions related to allergen

labeling and trans-fatty acids (TFA) labeling.

5.3. COMMERCIAL ASPECT

The product’s impact in the generation of value for the different related agents is

assessed, together with tis possibility of success in accordance to the proposed

commercial strategy. These criteria award a maximum of 15 points distributed as follows:

5.3.1. POSSIBILITY OF SUCCESS (0 - 5)

It assesses if there is a captive market for the product, considering its impact

on the consumers’ or users’ satisfaction and wellbeing.

5.3.2. MARKETING (0 - 5)

It assesses efficiency in distribution and positioning in points of sale; and if the

price positively responds to the product’s value.

5.3.3. AWARENESS AND ETHICS (0 - 5)

It assesses to what extent the product or the company contributes to local,

regional and sustainable development.

6. CATEGORIES

6.1. Applicants are responsible for registering their products in the different categories.

6.2. The eight categories of the Award’s eighth edition are listed and described as follows:

Beverages and liquors.

Alcoholic beverages: beer, pisco, wine, etc.

Non-alcoholic beverages: Soft drinks, soft drinks, water, juices, nectars, etc.

Sweets and snacks.

Different types of sweets, bakery products, candies and several appetizers.

Canned food.

Products such as oils, pasta, canned food, semi-preserved food and others.

Dehydrated food.

Products with less than 50% of water in its composition due to its origin or

handling.

Dairy products and by-products.

Products made of milk and processed by-products (cheese, yogurt, among

others).

Coffee, Cocoa and by-products.

Products made of coffee, cocoa and by-products.

Gourmet products and Delicatessen.

High-end foods, refined elaboration, such as charcuterie, foie gras, caviar,

among others; which have as strategy the exclusive sale in specialized stores.

Refrigerated, frozen products.

Unfinished, packed and cold-preserved culinary preparations that need extra

domestic work.

Precooked products.

Products that aim at ready-to-eat meals.

Seafood and aquaculture products.

Products made of fish, seafood and other marine or aquaculture products.

Functional and Nutritional Products5.

Products containing certain components that provide an added health benefit.

7. AWARDS

7.1. MAIN AWARD

The winner of the Best Innovative Product Award of Expoalimentaria 2019 shall be

selected based on the highest score granted in the Innovation Hall based on the three

(3) finalists selected by the Jury.

7.2. AWARD BY CATEGORY

7.2.1. FIRST PLACE

7.3. TREND AWARDS

Food trends aim at raising awareness on health, the environment and the search for

pleasure and entertainment. Thus, the Jury shall determine –among all the finalists-

which are the products, adapted to different life-styles, the pace of city life and new

consumption moments, adjusting to specific needs of each person.

7.3.1. HEALTHY LIFE TREND AWARD

Trend award that aims at recognizing the Best Innovative Product that is more

closely related to a proactive and responsible attitude towards the promotion

of consumer’s health and wellbeing, where the main approach is quality

consumption, and where enjoyment, balance (between physical state and

mental/emotional wellbeing) and sustainability prevail.

7.3.2. PRACTICALITY TREND AWARD

Trend award that aims at recognizing the Best Innovative Product that is more

efficient in the use and adaptation to new ways of life, in which the packaging

simplifies or reduces the preparation time, increases the useful life, and

simplifies the transport or storage.

7.3.4. ECO FRIENDLY TREND AWARD

Trend Award that aims at recognizing the Best Green and Sustainable6

Innovative Product, obtained through friendly production methods (recyclable,

biodegradable and / or compostable materials) (reuse of the container or

disposal facility), whose time of degradation and impact to the environment is

zero or reduced.

7.4. RECOGNITIONS

The Participants of the 10th Innovation Award who end up as finalists shall receive a

diploma awarded by the organizers.

of energy or natural resources are used, as well as the final destination of said products, their reuse, recycling

or rapid degradation is prioritized.

8. AWARD DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

The companies interested in participating in the 10th Innovation Award - Expoalimentaria 2019, shall go through the following

process:

8.1. CORRECTING OBSERVATIONS

8.1.1. Once the deadline for presenting applications has expired (Deadline: August, 09th ),

the Award’s Organizing Committee shall receive applications and review each one

to ensure that the documents are complete. 8.1.2. Applicants who failed to submit the complete documents shall be notified and shall

submit it within the next three (03) working days after being notified. The deadline

for correcting observations shall be August, 20th 8.1.3. Applications submitted after the deadline shall not be considered and shall be

immediately be disqualified without the right to complain or appeal.

8.2. ASSESSMENT STAGE

8.2.1. Total applications shall be assessed by the Technical Team in accordance to the

Award’s terms and conditions, formed by professionals appointed by the

organizers, who shall decided which applications will pass to the semi-final stage.

These assessments shall not be subject to review or appeal. 8.2.2. Semi-finalists shall be announced by the media advertising the Fair. 8.2.3. If in one or more categories there are not at least 2 applications submitted, the

category will automatically be declared void by the Technical Team.

8.3. SEMI-FINAL STAGE

8.3.1. Following, the Jury assesses, tastes and grades the semi-finalists, selecting those

with the four higher scores in each category as the finalists. Among the finalists,

there may be even scores, and thus more finalists in one or more categories. The

score granted by the Jury shall represent 80% of the final grade of each finalist. 8.3.2. Similarly, the Jury chooses the winners of the Trend Awards among the finalists.

The winners are announced in the Innovation Award Ceremony on September 27th

in the Fair premises. 8.3.3. Afterwards, the Jury chooses three (03) finalists as the most innovative products.

The winners will be defined according to the score obtained in the Final Stage of

the Award (visitors’ vote). 8.3.4. The finalists shall be announced as such in the Press Conference launching

Expoalimentaria 2019.

8.4. FINAL STAGE

8.4.1. The products that have been declared as finalists shall be exhibited in the

Innovation Hall; which will be open during the Fair (from September 25th to 27th).

8.4.2. To exhibit the product, the organization of the Expoalimentaria Fair will make

available a space inside the Innovation Hall. Each company shall take into account

the number of samples to be delivered, according to the indications of the Award’s

administrative area, meeting time, number and place of delivery requirements. 8.4.3. Samples that will be exhibited in the Innovation Hall shall be delivered together

with a Waybill on September 23th in the Fair Premises in the Main Warehouse area

(See Annex 2). 8.4.4. The Samples provided for the Innovation Hall shall abide by the same “no-return”

policy. 8.4.5. Those companies, chosen as finalists, which fail to deliver the samples within the

corresponding time and place shall be automatically disqualified. 8.4.6. An on-line voting center shall be installed inside the Innovation Hall, thus providing

the opportunity for national and international visitors to vote for the most

innovative product.

8.5. AWARD CEREMONY

8.5.1. On Thursday, September 26th , votes shall be counted until 17.00hrs of that day. Such

votes shall represent 20% of each finalist’s final grade. 8.5.2. Following, the Technical Team, comprised by the professionals appointed by the

organizers, will award the Innovation Prize in each category among the finalists and

according to the grades obtained in all stages.

8.5.3. Likewise, it shall award the Prize for the most Innovative Product to one of the three

finalists, considering the grades they received from the visitors.

8.5.4. The winners shall be announced as such in the Press Conference of Expoalimentaria

2019 Preliminary Results, on Friday, September 27th, 2019 at 12.00hrs in the

Auditorium of the Fair premises.

9. JURY

9.1. The Jury shall have a mixed character, and it is formed by personalities and institutions of

renowned reputation, from different fields of food innovation:

Commercial promotion institutions

Leaders of the Gastronomy sector: Chefs and Gastronomy Schools

Technical Institutions

Sale channels: Supermarkets, Retail sector and HORECA sector

Specialized media

9.2. The Jury is entitle to:

9.2.1. Interpreting the Terms and Conditions. 9.2.2. Disqualifying participants who fail to meet the requirements, as provided by the

Terms and Conditions. 9.2.3. Grading all participants, according to the assessment criteria pursuant to number 5

herein, aiming at choosing the Award’s finalists. 9.2.4. Announce the winners of the Trend Awards among the finalists, according to the

assessment criteria pursuant to number 5 herein. 9.2.5. Announce the three (03) finalists as the most innovative products, according to the

assessment criteria pursuant to number 5 herein. 9.2.6. Conduct other activities that it considers convenient to fulfill its duties.

9.3. The Jury quorum shall be the majority of its members. Decisions shall be adopted by simple

majority of attending members. If votes are tied the Chairman shall have the casting vote. 9.4. If any of the members of the Jury is related to any participant or if conflicts of interest are

perceived, they shall refrain from participating in the discussion and voting in the

corresponding category.

9.5. By the mere act of submitting their application, participants formally and unconditionally accept the Terms and Conditions hereof, as well as the Jury’s decisions.

10. SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES The schedule of activities of the 8th Innovation Award shall be properly observed by the participants, otherwise they shall be automatically disqualified. Thus, we recommend foreign companies to consider travel times, Customs procedures in the country of origin and destination, among others.

11. INFORMATION, CONFIDENTIALITY AND INTELECTUAL PROPERTY

11.1. Information about the award and the scope of the Terms and Conditions hereof is provided

through the Expoalimentaria 2019 (EA 2019) organizing staff. 11.2. Information and additional material submitted by the participants are received and kept by

the EA2019 staff under strict confidentiality terms. Such information and materials shall not

be communicated to third persons or entities, nor shall they be returned. 11.3. Information presented shall be deemed as confidential both by the Technical Team and the

members of the Jury. 11.4. The organizers reserve the right to mention the finalists and winners, as well as the

information regarding their participation, in any publications on the 10th Innovation Award. 11.5. The organizers reserve the right to publish the application forms, always avoiding to reveal

the products’ strategic information. 11.6. The products presented to this Award, ideas and developments on which these are based,

shall be owned by the company presenting them.

CHAPTER II APPLICATION

It is comprised by many documents that the companies shall fill out:

1. APPLICATION FORM

It shall include the following information:

Applicant company’s data. Data on fair participation. Contact information of the person responsible for the Award. Data on the product(s) and the category or categories in which they apply.

Only one form shall be filled for all the products presented in each category. No changes shall be

allowed once the application form has been signed. You can access to the application form here:

2. SWORN STATEMENT

Through it, the participants shall state that they will abide by the Award’s terms and conditions and

shall indicate the Annexes presented with the form. In this document, the participants declare under

oath that the information on its application, as well as on the applying company, is true, and that

otherwise they will be subject to the Jury’s disqualification.

3. APPLICATION INFORMATION

1.1. It is the main part of the information presented by the company to the award.

1.2. One document is made for each application (no more than 3).

1.3. All fields shall be filled without exception; in a specific and concise manner.

It shall include the following information:

Technical Data: Product’s data Questionnaire on the product’s innovation Commercial card (Filled by the Company’s Marketing area)

The Technical Teams and the Jury specially assess information or evidences that the

participants present to tangibly support their application.

Participants may present additional visual materials (videos, for instance) that the organizers

may use –in total or partially- to appropriately and briefly present the product(s) in the

Award Ceremony and award-related publications. These materials do not need to have been

specially prepared for the Award or and, similarly to other materials presented by the

participants, shall not be returned at the end of it.

4. ANNEXES

Annexes include the necessary information that need to be presented with the application, which

better describes and complements the application process. Annexes shall not replace general

information, based on which the Jury makes its assessment.

Annexes shall be submitted within the time established for Award applications (deadline: August

02nd) Annexes shall be subject to assessment and the lack of one or many documents shall render

the application void and shall prevent participants from passing to the semi-final stage. Annexes shall

The Annexes shall include the following items:

Logo of the product and/or company in Illustrator or PDF format (indicate if it is the

company’s or product’s logo). Logo of the product and/or company in JPG or TIFF format, in a 300dpi resolution and a 20

x 20 cm size. Flow chart of the product’s manufacturing process. Image of the product’s label and presentation. Three (03) pictures of the product taken from different angles (white background) in a

150dpi resolution and with a 1200 x 1000px size. Copy of the valid Health Authorization issued by each country’s corresponding authority. (20) samples of the product for assessment, all of which will be used.

5. PRESENTATION FORMAT

Applications’ documents shall be submitted using two ways, mandatorily and with no exceptions:

All documents listed below shall be uploaded in the virtual platform within the

abovementioned terms.

Sworn statement signed and sealed by the Legal Representative, duly scanned and

sent in PDF format.

5.2. PHYSICAL DELIVERY

Documents and samples shall be delivered to ADEX offices, located in Av. Javier Prado Este

N°2875, San Borja, Lima, Lima – Peru. (See Annex N°2)

5.2.1. DOCUMENTS

Documents shall be sent in a sealed envelope. One envelop for each application. The

envelope shall include a Table of Contents and the following documents:

Original Sworn Statement signed and sealed by the legal representative.

Printed application in A4 format.

Annexes:

- Color printed logo of the product and/or company (indicate if it is

the company’s or product’s logo) in A4 format. - Color printed flow chart of the product’s manufacturing process in

A4 format. - Printed picture of the product’s label and presentation in A4 format.

The envelop shall be labeled and presented in ADEX Reception Desk, using the

format indicated in Annex N°2.

5.2.2. SAMPLES

Samples shall be delivered in a box or package duly sealed and labeled using the

format indicated in Annex N°2.

If the product needs refrigeration it shall be delivered inside an isothermal or

Styrofoam box, in which –besides the abovementioned data- the participant shall

indicate the time the product may stay in the box and the product’s temperature

limit (temperature that shall not be exceeded).
