Job Title: Test Barn Technicians Job ID: 594578 Locations: Anderson, IN Shelbyville, IN Agency: Indiana Horse Racing Commission Job Description: The test barn technician shall be responsible for the collection and sealing of horse urine samples in accordance with chain of custody procedures and adhering to test barn operational procedures. Working hours and days are designated by the Executive Assistant Director in concurrence with scheduled post times at each racetrack. Sample of Duties: The Test Barn Technicians shall, in accordance with commission standard operating procedures procure a urine sample of each horse entering the test barn for testing. The Test Barn Technician shall be responsible for verifying the tattoo/freeze brand of each horse entering the test barn. The Test Barn Technicians may be responsible for verifying whip welts, cuts, etc on horses as assigned. The Test Barn Technicians shall maintain the test barn in a clean and orderly fashion. Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities: As the initial link in the chain of custody for testing samples, the responsibility of the incumbent is substantial. An error or failure to follow proper procedures may result in jeopardizing through unwarranted suspension, livelihood of the horses’ licensed trainer, and substantial unwarranted fines (up to $10,000). Conversely, any error or failure to follow proper procedures may permit a trainer guilty of drug violation(s) go unpunished. Cost, including legal fees, of incumbent mistakes may be substantial. Person chosen for the position must pay close attention to detail and follow all instructions on chain of custody, although the position is entry level there are many opportunities for learning and a lot of responsibility. The consequence of an error is very high for all parties involved so this position is key and critical to the overall success of the regulatory commission and to the horse and trainer who earns their living racing horses. Preferred Experience: Three (3) years employment or high school diploma. Incumbent is responsible for following commission rules, policies and procedures regarding sample collection is a plus. Hands-on experience with large animals, preferably horses, is desired. Additional Comments: Anderson In test barn technician: 5-6 hours per evening working Tuesday through Saturday from around 4:30 PM until the race is finished. Position will be following each horse assigned through the entire process of both urine and blood drug testing.

This position is Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, Saturday race time Saturday is later in the day. Position will be following each horse assigned through the entire process of both urine and blood drug testing. Racing Season: March through November Position must be available when races are hosted which will include holidays and weekends. Must be prepared to do manual labor Work in all weather conditions Must have appropriate attire for working in a horse barn Must be willing and able to muck stalls and prepare barn for horse comfort Large animal experience preferred It is requested that applicants attach their resume in addition to applying to this position on-line.
