The pre-requisites indicate “preparedness” for upper level coursework

1. Complete a minimum of 45 hours of degree plan coursework; 30 of which must be University Core Curriculum; with a minimum of 15 hours at Texas A&M.

2. Complete the following with a grade of “C” or better: ENGL 104 ECON 202 SPMT 217 COMM 203

MATH 140 SPMT 225 HLTH 240/ISTM 209

3. GPR requirements: 2.0 overall A&M GPR.

4. Declare your minor with the appropriate advisor.

II. REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLYING FOR ADMISSION TO THE APPLIED OPTION

MATH 140 SPMT 225 ISTM 209

3. GPR requirements: 2.5 overall A&M GPR.

4. Submit application by the required deadline. Applications must be complete, accurate and cannot be handwritten to be considered and must be signed by the applicant. Applications are sent via email at the beginning of each semester.

Enrollment Management: Entrance to the Applied Option is a COMPETITIVE process. A faculty committee will review all applications. All applicants will be rank ordered from highest to lowest based on the criteria outlined in the application. The total number of applicants to be accepted will be determined by the Department based on the number of "seats available" in the program for Applied Option. Applicants will be accepted on a "best qualified" basis subject to "seats available.” Meeting minimum qualifications is no guarantee for admission.

Determination of admission will be made approximately 30 days after the application deadline in the semester in which you applied. Notification of acceptance OR denial to the Applied Option of the Sport Management program will be made by email to the applicant’s TAMU e-mail address. Applicants who frequently drop or withdraw from courses will be at a disadvantage in the review for admission. Students may apply for admission no more than two times.

I. PROGRESS TOWARDS DEGREE

Students must show progress towards their degree by completing a combined total of 24 credit hours on their degree plan during the fall and spring semesters. At the end of the spring semester, students who did not complete 24 credit hours on their degree plan will be placed on probation. They must complete at least 12 hours on their degree plan plus make up any additional hours not completed the year before during the next fall semester. Failure to do so will result in dismissal from the department.

II. UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PLANNER REQUIREMENT All students are required by TEC§51.9685 (formerly House Bill 3025) to complete an online undergraduate degree plan annually. The Undergraduate Degree Planner can be found in the Howdy Portal on the My Record tab in the Undergraduate Degree Planner channel. Guides for using the Undergraduate Degree Planner are also available on Howdy. The Degree Planner typically opens for submission on March 1st and is due for Health & Kinesiology by August 1st. The Degree Planner is accessible at any time to plan future semesters.

III. COURSE FORCING The Health & Kinesiology department will not force students into any course that does not fall within our department (i.e. HLTH, KINE & SPMT). If a student is entering their final semester before graduation and needs a course that falls within the HLKN Department, they may be able to be forced into that course depending on classroom space. If a course falls outside of the HLKN Department, students will need to contact the College and/or Department in which that course is housed in order to see if they can be forced in.

IV. INTERDISCIPLINARY OPTION The Interdisciplinary Option of the Sport Management program is ideal for students looking for more flexibility in their degree plan. In addition to being able to choose your minor on this option, you also have increased elective hours to either build in a second minor or additional coursework from various disciplines that apply to the Sport Management field. If you are interested in exploring various areas within the discipline, this is a great option. Additionally, if you are looking to focus on communication/journalism, facilitates management, statistics, economics, law or other non-business fields, this is a great option to explore.

V. APPLIED OPTION The Applied Option of the Sport Management program is much more rigid than the Interdisciplinary Option. In addition to a required Business minor, students on this option will be asked to complete a field based internship experience in their final semester as part of their degree requirements. This option is going to be better for students who want a stronger business emphasis, have already complete various volunteer and industry experiences, and have a good idea of the specific area they want to work in in the Sport Management field.
