President’s ReportA meeting of ANKC delegates was held 12 February 2011 where it was unanimously agreed that the ANKC would become a company limited by guarantee known as the Australian National Kennel Council Limited as from 01 July 2011.

The lease of the Kennel Area at the Royal Showground, Glenorchy, particularly the temporary loss of access to the toilets via the middle pavilion, is causing concerns with members attending shows at the facility. The Council Executive and the Executive Officer are working with the RAST to have this problem resolved as soon as possible. Although it is an inconvenience exhibitors can travel greater distances to use toilet facilities at some other venues throughout the state. A petition was presented to the last meeting of Council asking questions about the lease agreement. A response has been sent to the first signatory on the document and a summary of that correspondence will be published in the next issue of the Gazette.

Members are reminded at, as from 01 July 2011, microchipping of all dogs over the age of 6 months is a requirement under the Dog Control Act. Anyone failing to comply with this requirement is liable to be fined $240.00 per offence.

GR CH KALASKA BAILEY OF VOYAGEEvery now and again a dog enters your life with which you form a special bond, way beyond the normal bonding of man and dog. Bailey is one of those dogs. An added bonus for us has been that he conforms very well to the Samoyed standard, a medium sized sound dog, with lovely movement, and a superb double coat, and of course the wonderful Samoyed smile. Added to that, in the sunshine the silver tips on his coat are quite something, a feature some of today’s Samoyeds are losing.He has deservedly achieved the title of Grand Champion, and we are very proud of his accomplishment.We would like to thank Denise Klaaysen from Kalaska Samoyeds for sending us this delightful man who has certainly enriched our lives.

Judges are reminded of TCA Inc Regulation 153:‘A conformation judge shall report to the Secretary of the Affiliate details of any dog over six (6) months of age (excluding those entered in a property or neutered class) which in his opinion is not entire. Such dog may be sent from the ring by the officiating judge.’

sHoW and triaL rEgULationsAll exhibitions conducted by the Tasmanian Canine Association Inc. and its affiliates are conducted under the rules and regulations of the Association, a copy of which may be inspected at the office of the secretary of the exhibition on the day of such exhibition.The following rules/regulations apply to all exhibitions: Financial Members:

A person 18 years of age and over and who is a resident of Tasmania may not exhibit, handle, officiate in the judging ring or register an animal unless he/she is a current financial member of the TCA Inc. A person seven years and under the age of eighteen years who handles a dog in the judging ring is required to be a junior member of the TCA Inc. or a member of an affiliated club. At least one parent or guardian is required to be a financial member of the TCA Inc.

All dogs shall be entered for exhibition on the official cheque-book entry form and must have all details required for publication legibly completed thereon and in ink.

Entry fees must accompany the entry form and should be paid by cheque or money order (refer Australia Post regulation).

A stamped, self-addressed envelope must be included for the return of number discs for championship shows, obedience and retrieving trials.

Substitute Judges:The affiliate conducting an exhibition reserves the right to substitute judges if the committee deems it necessary. Entry fees are not refundable - refer TCA Inc Regulation 227.

It is the exhibitor’s responsibility to have his/her exhibit/s available for judging in all classes or events for which it is correctly entered and for the classes for which it subsequently becomes eligible - TCA Inc Regulation 33.

2011/2012 CONFORMATION JUDGES TRAINING SCHEMEMembers who wish to join the Conformation Judges Training Scheme are advised that applications to join the scheme must be submitted not later than 8th July 2011. Please contact the TCA Inc. office for an application form. Applicants will have been a member of the TCA Inc. for a minimum period of eight years during the ten years prior to the date of application. Persons transferring from another state/territory/country will be required to provide evidence of their experience over a period of eight years as a member of the relevant Canine Controlling body to be considered for acceptance into the training scheme. The applicant will provide sufficient evidence of experience as a breeder, exhibitor, steward or official in canine activity as outlined hereunder or meet the criteria as approved by the ANKC and affiliated National Breed Council: i. Has bred at least three litters under their own or a shared prefix. ii. The applicant must have owned and made up and/or bred a minimum of two Champions.

Applicants can define any other success in the Show Ring (i.e. any major awards or achievements by dogs bred and/or exhibited by the applicant).

iii. Show evidence of practical experience as a Steward which shall consist of at least 20 hours stewarding at Championship Shows prior to making application.

iv. Has been approved by the Council of the TCA Inc. v. Complies with ANKC requirements as set out in ANKC Regulations Part 3 October

2010. Fees will be advised on the application form.

SECTION 1 – COMPLIANCE WITH CODE OF ETHICS Each member, upon signing an application for membership or renewal of membership of the T.C.A. Inc, and being duly elected to general membership of the TCA Inc, shall, in addition to agreeing to be bound by the Constitution, Rules and Regulations of the TCA Inc, be also bound by the TCA Inc’s Code of Ethics relating to responsible dog ownership, including the keeping, welfare, breeding, selling and disposing of dogs by members to the effect of the terms and conditions set out under Section 2 hereof. SECTION 2 – CODE OF ETHICS AND UNDERTAKING In consideration of the Tasmanian Canine Association Inc electing me to its general membership and approval of that renewal from time to time, I pledge to the Tasmanian Canine Association Inc that: - 1. I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly housed, fed, watered,

exercised and receive proper Veterinary attention, if and when required. 2. I shall not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large and when away from home ensure

that they are kept fully leashed, or under effective control, at all times. All dogs must be able to stand up to full height and be able to turn around with ease in any crate in which it is confined.

3. I shall breed only for the purpose of improving the quality and/or working ability of the breed in line with the breed standard and not for the pet market or any other commercial purpose.

4. I shall not breed from any bitch kept by me causing it to whelp before it is 12 months of age and I shall not breed any bitch kept by me causing it to whelp more than twice in any 18 month period. I will not breed any bitch kept by me causing it to whelp more than 6 times without prior written approval from the TCA Inc Council.

5. I shall not permit any of my pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, to a cross-bred dog, or to an unregistered dog of the same breed.

6. I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under 8 weeks of age, within Australia and 11 weeks of age overseas, the pup must have had its initial vaccination for distemper and parvo-virus.

7. I shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from me clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal, that they have the time and facilities (i.e. adequate fences, sufficient room and proper shelter etc) to perform their obligations.

8. I shall provide to all purchasers of dogs sold or placed by me, written details of all dietary and immunisation requirements and/or an appropriate publication relating to such requirements and responsible dog ownership.

9. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind.

10. I shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dog.

11. I shall ensure when selling or transferring a dog to another person that documents as required by TCA Inc Regulation 58, will be provided to the purchaser or transferee.

12. I undertake not to advertise puppies for sale as TCA Inc registered until the application for registration has been lodged with the TCA Inc Office.

SECTION 3 Any member failing to observe any provisions of the Code of Ethics may be dealt with under the Regulations of the TCA Inc.

Exhibitors will then proceed out of the bottom car park and MUST turn left into Howard Road exiting via the Main Gate.

REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO THE EXHIBITION OF DOGSAND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

To be held under the Regulations of the Tasmanian Canine Kennel Association Inc., a copy of which may be inspected at the Kennel Area office. The General Regulations of the Society shall form part of the conditions of entry except where they conflict with the regulations of the TCA Inc. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: Exhibitors who require to leave the show before 5 pm on Thursday and Friday and 4 pm on Wednesday and Saturday, are requested not to make an entry. PLEASE NOTE: Cars will not be permitted onto the ground before 5pm each day.REMOVAL OF EXHIBITS: No dog may be removed from the exhibition before the time specified in this schedule namely 5pm on Thursday and Friday 4pm on Wednesday and Saturday. Contravention of this regulation as per (Regulation No. 126 TCA Regulations) may cause forfeiture of all prizes which may have been won by the dog and the matter shall be referred to the Council of the TCA Inc.REGISTRATION NECESSARY: Prior to entry, all dogs must be registered, transferred or leased to present ownership, direct with the Tasmanian Canine Association Inc., Royal Hobart Showground, Glenorchy 7010 or to an interstate controlling body recognised by the Tasmanian Canine Association Inc. Judge’s Resume:SUE BOWNDSBeagles have been in my life for as long as I can remember. When I was five my grandparents asked my parents what dog they would like and eventually they chose the Beagle. After getting our first boy from the Belview Kennels and titling him in the early 1960’s, a bitch soon followed from the same kennel my parents bred their first litter in 1961 and 50 years later we are still breeding under the NANGUNYAH prefix which is now owned by my mother, my daughter Libby and myself. We imported several dogs from the UK and consistently throughout the years imported and exported to New Zealand. I have only ever bred a maximum of three litters a year. In 1976 I married and moved my first Beagle into the house a month later. My first Best in Show All Breeds winner came in the following year. Nangunyah have bred nearly 100 champions over five decades and many countries. I began judging in 1980 when I completed my Hound Group. I have judged specialty shows, Hound Club and All Breeds Shows in all states of Australia, excepting Northern Territory. I now judge Hounds, Utility Dogs, Non Sporting and am studying for my Working Dog and Toy Group Licence this year. I have also judged in New Zealand, UK, Philippines, Denmark and recently returned from judging in Poland. Though I only have Beagles now I have also owned/shown English Springer Spaniels, Dobermanns, Dachshunds, Cocker Spaniels, Bassets, Curly Coated Retrievers, Irish Water Spaniels, Fox Terriers and Scottish Terriers.I look forward to judging the Hound Club of Tasmania in October.

2011 ROYAL HOBART SHOW JUDGESJudges’ Resumes:Mr JORGE NALLEM - UruguayAs one of the owners of “El Retorno” Kennels, Mr Nallem is renowned for breeding Wire and Smooth Fox Terriers, Standard Schnauzers, Whippets, Beagles, Boxers, Dachshunds and Cimarron Uruguayo. Mr Nallem has achieved more than 150 All Breeds Best in Shows with his dogs competing in many countries in addition to many World Champion titles. He became a Fox Terrier judge in 1987 and an FCI All Breeds judge in 1996. He is a Specialist judge with Old English Sheepdogs, Boxers, Dobermanns, Schnauzers, Fox Terriers, Basset Hounds, Irish Setters, Poodles, Shih-Tzu’s and Afghan Hounds. Mr Nallem attained Membership with the FCI Standard Commission (1999-2011), was President of the Kennel Club Uruguayo (1996-2000) and (2004-2008), and President of the judge’s Committee of the Kennel Club Uruguayo (2000-2004). Mr Nallem is a trainer of new judges in Uruguay and was an expounder at the America’s and Caribbean Judges Congress over a number of years, as well as a FCI Delegate for Americas and Caribbean Show and for the 2005 World Dog Show in Argentina.

Judges’ Resumes:SANDRA PATTERSONI have been involved in the dog world since my early childhood days. I joined an obedience school with my “found” Cross Border Colllie around 1964 and was hooked. I eventually was allowed to have a pedigree dog and so a Golden Retriever found its way home. He was very successful in obedience trials for many years, gaining his UD obedience title, as well as his show championship Consequently I became hooked also on the breed ring. In the years to follow, many more dogs gained obedience titles.In the early 90’s I published “Australia’s Golden Heritage” a historical pedigree review of the Golden Retriever breed in Australia. An all breeds judging licence has led to many international and national judging appointments at both specialty and all breeds level. I have also held many administrative positions on committees over the years - retrieving, breed and obedience - as well as President of the National Golden Retriever Breed Council and serving on the RNSWCC Judges Training Committee.Golden Retrievers were a large part of my life for many decades. This year I celebrate 43 years in the breed. With the support of my husband, Michael, other breeds to share my life have been English Setters, Doberman and most recently we have been taken over by Whippets.We have bred over 52 champions across Australia and New Zealand and am proud to say we have one Whippet champion and one “unofficial” (ie under 12 months and a Best in Show winner at 10 months of age) Whippet champion after only 18 months in the breed.

KERRY KINGI have been involved in the Terrier group for 25 years, where under the BRASSHEAD prefix I have bred, showed and owned Staffordshire Bull Terriers and Bull Terriers.

I am licensed to judge Toys, Terriers, Gundogs, Hounds, Working Dogs, Non Sporting and currently trainee for the Utility group.I am a qualified breed specialist for Bull Terriers, able to award ROM Cards to both Bull Terrier and Bull Terrier Miniature.I have judged Championship Shows in Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia and in addition I have judged on two occasions in both Auckland (New Zealand) and South Africa.I have judged Specialties in Perth (WA), Canberra (ACT), Adelaide (SA), Sydney (NSW), New Zealand, the Highveld Ridge Bull Terrier Club in South Africa and in 2009 I judged my first FCI Championship Show in South Africa. I held executive positions on the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of SA in the 90’s and currently I am the President of The Bull Terrier Club of SA Inc. and have been for over 10 years, I am also Life Member. Although I have been to Hobart for work commitments, this will be my first judging appointment in Tasmania and I thank you for inviting me to judge your show and look forward to meeting exhibitors and their dogs.

LUCILLE CORBETTI have loved, owned, exhibited and bred pure bred dogs for over 40 years. I was first licensed to judge Boxers in 1978 and then after passing the judges training scheme went on to judge Groups 6 and 7. I am also an accredited assessor for the ANKC training scheme. I have judged in all states of Australia with the exception of Tasmania and Northern Territory and also both north and south islands of New Zealand.I have been involved with several dog clubs over the years and am currently Vice President of the Boxer Club of NSW.

THE CANINE EXHIBITIONA Show being held on 24th November 2012 to celebrate the

150th Anniversary of the first Australian Dog Showwhich was held in Hobart Town in 1862

Thanks to all those who supported our Easter Egg Raffle. We raised just over $100, all of which will be applied to the Canine Exhibition Show The winner was Kerry Smith.Our next fund raiser is a Quiz Night. This is to be held on Friday 24th June 2011 and will feature great prizes, including a lucky door prize as well as blind raffles even a prize for the lowest score! The Quiz Night is to be held at the Royal Showground in the Administration Building (Patron’s Room) and starts at 7pm.Tickets are on sale now for $15 each and this will include supper. (We will not be selling drinks but you may bring your own if you wish.) Maximum number at each table is 10 but individuals are more than welcome. A professional Quiz Master has been engaged and we are looking forward to a great night. Tickets are available from the Dogs Tasmania Office 6272 9443 (10am - 2pm) or from any of the Committee Members - Jean MacDonald, Steve Eastley, Maureen Jones, Kaye Klap or David Sales.Please advertise the event amongst your friends and we hope we will see you there.
