Introduction of Oceangoing Marine Cargo Insurance Exclusively for the Kansai Foods Export
Promotion Cooperative Association
New Kansai International Airport Co., Ltd., Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd., Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Nippon Express Co., Ltd., Saraya Co., Ltd., and the Kansai Foods Export Promotion Cooperative Association as members of the Kansai Food Export & Branding Council (President: Shuichi Kuwata, Director of Osaka North Branch of Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd.) have been working to expand food exports from Kansai International Airport.
With consideration of the benefits of food exporters in the Kansai area, Mitsui
Sumitomo Insurance Co., Ltd. recently developed oceangoing marine cargo insurance exclusively for the members of the Kansai Foods Export Promotion Cooperative Association. This insurance compensates for the corruption and quality degradation of food to be exported from Kansai International Airport only. Accordingly, the Kansai Foods Export Promotion Cooperative Association introduced the insurance in October.
Normal oceangoing cargo marine insurance does not compensate the corruption or quality degradation of food exports. The risk of the corruption and quality degradation of food exports is usually passed on to commodity prices abroad, which has led to a reduction in the competitiveness of Japanese food in terms of price.
This insurance, on the other hand, is expected to hedge the risk of the Kansai Food Package system, lower the hurdle of export difficulties, and lead to an increase in the competitiveness of Japanese food in terms of price abroad. New Kansai International Airport Co., Ltd. in corporation with all parties concerned
hopes to contribute to a business expansion in food exports as well as a network expansion of air transport and an increase in cargo volume in order to spread the safety and deliciousness of Japanese food to people’s dining tables worldwide.
