Your Gifts Are Making a Difference For Cancer Patients
Mary Rocco is a long-time volunteer at Anna Jaques
Hospital. Lately, she has been splitting her time between
the Newburyport Chamber of Commerce and our
Community Health Foundation, and of course, her
grandchildren!
Mary and her husband have both received care at Anna Jaques. “I had
chemo and radiation. Dr. Jon Eneman walked me through every step. Dr.
Claire Fung and her team really know how to talk to patients. My husband
and I are so grateful for the care we can get just a walk from our home.” If
you happen to see her, congratulate her on her recent golden wedding
anniversary.
When Annemarie Morris discovered a lump in her breast, she and her
husband decided to call her gynecologist at Women’s Health Care. She was
seen, screened, and biopsied within two days of her first phone call. The
next week, and after getting opinions from two hospitals in Boston, the
Morris family chose Dr. Peter Hartmann and the Gerrish Breast Care Center.
Kathy Porter, RN, OCN, CBCN, the Center’s
patient navigator (pictured to the right of
Annemarie), was there for Annemarie
every step of her journey and through her
recovery. “I could tell Kathy anything,” said
Annemarie. “The whole crew at Anna
Jaques and the care they provided was
unbelievable.”
Patient navigation is a new program at Anna Jaques since donors gave the
start-up funds to establish the Gerrish Breast Care Center in 2014.

Anna Jaques Hospital wins a $100,000 Cummings Foundation Grant
Our hospital was chosen from 479 local nonprofits to win one of 100 grants of
$100,000 through Cummings Foundation’s “$100K for 100” program.
Funds will be directed to care for babies born opioid-addicted and to train staff
to be prepared for a range of neonatal emergency situations that may arise. The
grant will also support the use of donor breast milk, educational materials, and
other operating expenses of the Neonatal Care Center.
“We are thrilled that Cummings Foundation has chosen to recognize and
support our Neonatal Care Center in caring for babies born exposed or addicted
to opioids,” said Mark Goldstein, president & CEO of Anna Jaques Hospital. “Our
staff is dedicated to providing support, encouragement, and guidance to the
families they care for. This grant will strengthen the neonatal program to
continue to give every newborn the healthiest start to life.”
Cummings Foundation aims to give back where it owns commercial buildings. Founded in 1970 by Bill Cummings of
Winchester, the Woburn-based commercial real estate firm leases and manages more than 10 million square feet of
space, almost all exclusively for the benefit of the Foundation. “We very much appreciate the important work that
nonprofit organizations like Anna Jaques Hospital are doing in the communities where our colleagues and clients live
and work,” said Joel Swets, Cummings Foundation’s executive director. “We are delighted to support their efforts.” The
complete list of 100 grant winners is available at www.CummingsFoundation.org.
