SADAQAT-UL-FITR'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas RA narrates: 'The Prophet SAW declared the payment of Sadaqatul Fitr as obligatory; it purifies the fasting person from any indecent act or speech, and is a source of feeding the poor.' [Sunan Abi Dawud]Giving Sadaqatul Fitr (also referred to as Zakatul Fitr or Fitrana) on the day of Eid was a practice of the Messenger of Allah SAW, and has been ordained for us all. Like Zakah, it establishes the bonds of unity between the rich and poor.Ummah Welfare Trust is giving donors the option of deciding how much Sadaqatul Fitr to give, based on various ahadith. You can give for any of the following prices per head:

Every person eligible to pay this amount must pay not only for him-self but also for his dependants, such as his children. If after knowing the Shari'i amount a person wishes to give more, then he can do so inshaAllah.

Ummah Welfare Trust will distribute your Sadaqatul Fitr to widowed and orphaned families on Eid day inshaAllah.

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE ON 3RD JUNE

Ramadhan Fajr NoticeIn previous years Fajr prayer has been performed at a time that accommodates those who follow the late suhoor ending time. This year the Management of Masjid Abu Bakr had initially decided to set Fajr at an early time during Ramadhan (e.g. 1:40 am), which is closer to the early suhoor ending time, thereby, compacting Maghrib, Isha and Fajr closer togeth-er to allow neighbours to sleep peacefully for the rest of the night. This decision was also in consideration of the fact that the Management could only guarantee their presence to steward the noise level at the early Fajr time, which has proven successful during Tarawih.

The decision of an early Fajr time (and also the cancellation of iftar) was as a last resort to protect the Masjid. Over the past five years, a number of complaints have been coming from the neighbours regarding noise levels of people standing outside and the noise made from doors and engines of cars parking on Mansfield Road especially in Ramadhan. Every year we receive an email from MP Stella Creasy to address the concerns that the neigh-bours have raised.

Last year a neighbour informed us that they are now complaining directly to the council as they are not satisfied that their concerns had been addressed. The Management have tried many methods to deal with the complaints from publishing the complaints, to announcing and even trying to get volunteers for Fajr in Ramadan 2016, however no volunteers were forthcoming. Our many methods of trying to handle complaints has not reduced them, this is mainly due to worshippers not taking the issue seriously. The Management strongly feel

that this whole situation could have easily been avoided over the past 5 years, if worshippers’ behaviour had changed according to the complaints and announcements made.

The Management want to avoid the situation from escalating fur-ther and complaints being presented to the council thereby result-ing in restrictions and enforcements being placed on the Masjid. Such enforcement is likely to be in the form of the Masjid being given restricted times where no access to the public is allowed at unsociable hours. This potentially would mean that our Fajr, even Maghrib and Isha could be at risk. This decision of changing the time of Fajr had understandably come as a shock to worshippers. As a result, the Management was presented with a petition to revise this decision and to revert back to the late Fajr timing.

Due to the request of the worshippers, the Management saw it best that a consultation take place to clarify any misunderstanding and to convey why this decision came about. This was also an opportunity to explore alternative arrangements that can tackle any further com-plaints from our neighbours and to address worshippers’ concerns regarding the Fajr timing. This consultation took place on Sunday 14th May 2017 after Fajr prayer and the worshippers put forward a plan of action to have volunteers to steward the late Fajr.

Outcome

The Management supports the suggestion made by the worshippers and has decided to keep Fajr at the later timing that has been set in the past years; also to have volunteers to steward and to control the noise levels before and after Fajr. The late Fajr will be monitored this year and reviewed by the Management of its effectiveness to determine future plans.

Management’s Recommendation

• A minimum of 3-4 volunteers per day at Fajr will be required. This equates to 90-120 shifts to be fulfilled over 30 days.• If a minimum of 10 volunteers can be sourced then each will need to cover 9-12 days of Ramadan.• Management will brief the volunteers and provide them with equipment to carry out their role.

PLEASE LEAVE YOUR NAMES AT THE OFFICE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER
