Welcome to CBSC Summer #99! The oldest summer swim club in BC has never looked better and an enormous amount of volunteer energy has gone into ensuring that the summer of 2017 will be one of our best ever.

New this year: the return of Ladies Golf, a second Tennis Carnival, Tuesday Night Paddleboarding, hundreds of wooden seahorses, and more! Not new: good old fashioned outdoor family fun, an awesome team of coaches serving as role models for the younger kids, and more volunteers than you can count. It’s a magic formula and we’re not messing with it.

Also new this year: lots of new members. Welcome to the CBSC family! I encourage you to dive (or jump – safety first) into as many CBSC activities as you can. The more you do and the more people you meet, the more amazing your summer will be. And if some of our traditions seem strange… well, yes, they are. We love them and I’m sure you will too!

Believe it or not, close to 1,000 kids will be enjoying a CBSC summer this year. And that’s only possible because of the unbelievably committed volunteer team that makes it all happen (while having fun at the same time, of course). If you’re not already on the team but wish you were… no problem! Send a note to [email protected]. I’m pretty sure we’ve got a job for you.

So… you need to do two things before the end of August. First, make sure you know what’s happening next summer (2018), tell your CBSC friends, and plan ahead so you and your family can get the most out of the CBSC Centennial Celebrations. Secondly, get out of your house! Put your bathing suit on, grab your tennis racquet and head to the beach – it’s a CBSC Summer!

Cheers,

Bob [email protected]

WELCOME TO CBSC'S TENNIS PROGRAM!

The CBSC Tennis Committee and Coaches are excited to offer a summer program of Progressive Tennis lessons, fun tennis activities and club tournaments for players of all ages and skill levels.

Returning Head Coach Steve Moore is a Tennis Canada Club Pro 2 and has been coaching for the past 12 years. He has extensive experience running tennis camps including the UBC Tennis Centre Camps and the Surrey Parks and Rec program, in addition to coaching at the Arbutus Club in Vancouver. All CBSC coaches have their Tennis Canada Level 1 instructor certification and have from one to five years of experience coaching. WHAT IS PROGRESSIVE TENNIS? Progressive Tennis introduces the sport of tennis in a fun and interactive way and ensures immediate success for young players. Using modified tennis balls, racquets, nets and courts, young players are properly equipped to enjoy rallies and learn the fundamentals of the game early on. Skills are developed much quicker, allowing for an easy transition to full court tennis. Tennis Canada fully endorses Progressive Tennis.

TENNIS PROGRAM RED BALL U6 and U8This program introduces the foundational skills of tennis with an oversized, low-compression ball on a smaller court. Players learn basic rally, serve and net play skills along with activities that build tennis coordination. 30-minute lessons are offered. Fee: $45/month

RED BALL MATCH U8Players must be 6 years old. This program introduces point play in a fun, supervised environment and children will be introduced to serve, rally and score. Fee $85/month

ORANGE BALL U10Players play on a 3/4 sized court with low-compression balls. They focus on learning the fundamentals for rallying, including: grip, set-up, impact, and recovery. Players also develop the ‘toss’ feeling on their serve and a ‘catch’ feeling on volleys. Fee: $85/month

GREEN DOT U12Players play on a full sized court with low compression balls and work on developing ball control skills for rallying, serving and volleying by controlling height, distance, direction, speed and spin. Players work on decision-making and learn how to implement tactics. Fee: $85/month

REGULAR BALL U14 - U18Players play on full sized courts with regular balls to build their fundamental skills in a more developmental environment. Course will focus on grip, set-up, impact, hitting zone and recovery. Fee: $85/month

HIGH PERFORMANCE U14 – U18This program is for the more advanced player who plays throughout the year either at a club, tournament or high school level. Players will further develop their technical, tactical, physical and mental skills. Fee: $85/month

MEMBERS' GENERAL MEETINGThursday, August 24 'After the Synchro Show'Otherwise known as the "Summer AGM", this always entertaining evening will take place after the Synchro Show (around 8:30pm) at the CBSC Clubhouse. Only at CBSC: Directors present their summer reports in the form of poems & song, to wrap up the summer!

FACILITIES VISION OPEN HOUSESaturday, July 8 4 - 6pmMonday, July 10 7- 9pm

Our much loved pool, tanks, clubhouse (actually a used school portable from the 1970s) and tennis courts have served us valiantly, but they are in need of some serious upgrades if future CBSC generations are going to have summers as great as the ones we’ve all enjoyed. We hope that all members will come to one of the open houses (at the CBSC Clubhouse), check out the options being considered and share your opinions and ideas.
