Forage Club
Club alums Caleb Max and Jonathan LaPre’ re-turn to put on a live fence driving demo at the 2019 county Fair. While initially sparsely attended, once the hammer started sounding off, folks started walking up to see what that was about. Max, a long-time Loudoun 4-H Member and founding Forage Club Member, is the owner of Caleb’s Country Services and is now in the landscape and fence business professionally.
Several members put in static display competi-tions to include this farm safety display of a dairy heifer operation by Junior Sam McClintic which won Best in Division (left).
Senior Natalie Bailey put together a display of various forage types (above to the right).
Natalie also brought her pastured rabbits for the fourth year in a row.
Several other members were busy with their other clubs and projects throughout the week.

Rabbit Hopping Submitted By: Mary Grace Menuey
The Loudoun County 4-H Rabbit Hopping Club called its meeting to order on July 12, 2019. We first went over our finished business items, which were Showmanship Study Stations, which was our lesson at the last meeting, and Mock Competition, where we got to practice hopping our rabbits just like we would at a real competition. Our new business for this month involved planning the Club's display for Fair. We brainstormed ideas for how to tell the public about rabbit hopping and then practiced hopping our rabbits in the Show Barn. We were all very excited for Fair and are looking forward to competing in showmanship.
Canterlopes Submitted By: Jessica Tillman
On July 9th, the Canterlopes had their monthly meeting. The disease of the month
was uveitis presented by Mandy and our education was drill team maneuvers. We talked about the details for the Fair and other upcoming events.
On July 19th members went to Dover Saddlery and Harris Teeter to pick out Fair prizes. On July 20th members went to Lynden and brought over supplies needed for the Fair.
On July 23rd, Fair started. On the first day the Canterlopes had their fitting and showmanship competition. On Wednesday, the drill team had two demonstrations where the public could learn about what drill team was. On Thursday, we had a types of riding demonstration and a skeletal demonstration where we painted a skeleton on the horse and had it move around to see the skeleton in action. On Friday morning, we had a Gym-khana show where we had divisions such as barrel racing, pole bending, and a cupcake race. On Saturday morning we had the Gambler’s Choice show. There was a trail class and jumping class. On Sunday morning the Hoofprints club held a costume show, however, many Canterlopes members participated.
We had the Fair cleanups, then the month was over.
