You will be hosted by MAD CHARITY’s Founding Chairman, Francois Pienaar.

Francois became renowned when he played for South Africa’s National Rugby Team, captaining the side in his first match for the Springboks and in every one of his 29 appearances, culminating in the famous victory at the World Cup in 1995. He has won many accolades, which include:

• South African Rugby Player of the Year 1993; • International Rugby Player of the Year 1994; • International Rugby Captain of the Year 1995; • Nominated Rugby Personality of the Year by 20 British rugby writers in 1996; and • Inducted into the International Hall of Fame in 2005.

The inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with the Captain of South Africa’s Rugby Team to help unite their country culminated in one of the most enduring images of the modern era – Francois Pienaar receiving the Webb Ellis Trophy from State President Nelson Mandela, when South Africa won the Rugby World Cup in 1995. It was not only a triumph for the charismatic captain, but for the entire nation. This moment was captured in the Oscar nominated film ‘Invictus’ with Mandela’s role played by Morgan Freeman and Francois Pienaar played by Matt Damon.

Nelson Mandela said, “It was under his inspiring leadership that rugby became the pride of the entire country, his leadership extended beyond the rugby field and he truly represents all South Africans.”

Under his inspiring leadership a nation was brought together.

Dear Supporter

We look forward to welcoming you to the 4th Annual MAD CHARITY USA Golf Classic and Prize Giving Dinner. It is again a privilege to play host to a fully subscribed Golf Tournament at one of the most exclusive Members only courses, Liberty National. We invite you to celebrate our 10th Anniversary this year and know you will enjoy the day with us.

At MAD CHARITY we recognize that in order to build the leaders of tomorrow, we need to Make A Difference today. MAD is committed to playing a role in the future of a growing African nation and our vision is aptly described in the words of former South African President Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Today’s event is about just this. MAD provides educational and related opportunities to academically talented youngsters from financially less priviledge circumstances. Since inception in 2003, we have developed a thorough selection process, which makes sure we identify those ‘hidden gems’ and allow us to invest in these ‘pockets of excellence’. Our approach has always been holistic. We get them into great schools, as close to their homes as possible. We support them financially and emotionally throughout their learning years, to help each one reach their full potential. We are tough when we need to be and supportive when it matters most, but throughout we are right there to cheer them along. We become like family, their greatest fans. In return we make one request – go be a leader. Whether in your community, your family or place or work – lead by example and change the world you live in.

The results and achievements of the MAD learners over the past decade all pay tribute to your generous and loyal support. We are also grateful for the continued time, effort and commitment received from our generous Main Sponsors: Enstar, The Paul and Phyllis Fireman Charitable Foundation, Grace Industries, Paul Weiss and The Rainbow Nation Fund.

We shall see you on the greens.

Regards,

Francois Pienaar Founding Chairman: MAD CHARITY

Liberty National Golf Club is a private golf club in Jersey City, New Jersey with a 7,346 yard course designed by former US Open champion Tom Kite and renowned course designer Bob Cupp.

It is time for one of the highlights of the year...

The 4Th AnnuAl MAD ChAriTyuSA Golf ClASSiC

Their ultra-modern, heavily glassed, ship shaped clubhouse offers an upmarket pro-shop, first class locker rooms, five star wining & dining, on-site helistop, yacht services, a spa and several magnificent, panoramic views of the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan.

In fact, the Statue of Liberty, which golfers can use as a point of reference when lining up their approach shots on at least half a dozen holes, is less than 1,000 yards from the 18th green. A private, high-speed yacht service can get you to the club from Manhattan in approximately 12 minutes.

This Members only club, built on a former landfill, is one of the game’s most luxurious and exclusive institutions of its kind and in 2009 Liberty National hosted the Barclays Golf Tournament, formerly the Westchester Classic and secured the 2013 competition as well.

The course of rolling fairways is as pristine as you could find anywhere in the world and its bent grass greens are beautifully manicured. Sub-air technology keeps the greens heated and healthy all year round, and of course its mile long water frontage on the Hudson River makes the classic view of nearby Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty something quite unforgettable.

The one common trait of all supporters of MAD CHARITY is the will to overcome adversities in life and turn it into success. Thank you for sharing our vision.

At MAD we realize that in order to build the leaders of tomorrow, we need to Make A Difference today. MAD was founded in 2003 by Francois Pienaar and a close group of friends. MAD CHARITY provides exceptional educational and related opportunities for deserving youngsters in South Africa, youngsters who might otherwise never have been given the opportunity to reach their full potential. MAD seeks to develop these youngsters into becoming future role models and an inspiration to others, while supporting each other and giving back to their country.

Growth and expansion of the MAD Education Program is entirely dependent on increased funding, in particular from Corporate and Individual Donors.

OVERCOMING ADVERSITY - MAD CHARITY

KylieCurrent studies: Bachelor of Social Science with a triple major in Social Anthropology, Sociology and Public Policy and AdministrationInstitution: University of Cape Town

As many young South Africans, Kylie faced the challenge of finding sufficient funds to continue her schooling. Being raised by a single parent, a MAD scholarship opened doors for this bright young learner.

In 2012, after achieving a place on the Dean’s Merit List at the end of her first academic year, she was invited to join the Golden Key International Honour Society.  The Golden Key Society is internationally recognized and awards academically talented students, who rank in the top 15% of their respective tertiary institutions, with various opportunities, including internships, scholarships, leadership skills development, community service, networks, conferences, workshops and more.  This achievement gained Kylie full access to remarkable opportunities.

Kylie’s future plans are to pursue an Honour’s degree in Social Anthropology, with a particular focus on the fields of education, child development, social development, as well as public policy. Thereafter she hopes to obtain her Master’s degree abroad, followed by a PhD in the Anthropology of Education.

She is a young lady with big dreams, but MAD has no doubt that with her enthusiasm, she will be able to turn these dreams into a reality.

SUCCESS STORIES

DavidCurrent studies: Honours in Actuarial ScienceInstitution: University of Stellenbosch

David shared with us his feeling of great relief when he received a MAD scholarship. With hope he could direct his thoughts to a whole new world of careers to choose from, rather than being concerned about his future.

With exceptional marks in grade 12, David was accepted for BCom Actuarial Science at the University of Stellenbosch where he completed his undergraduate degree in 2012.

During his studies, he made us proud with a number of achievements, including being selected as a member of the Goldfields House Committee, being a mentor to a number of new students and being selected as a member of the ABSA Youth Board, one of South Africa’s leading Banks’ initiatives.

His latest achievement was to be one of five selected learners to receive a Mandela Rhodes Scholarship. The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship gives students the opportunity to further their studies and is paired with a development program aimed at reconciliation, education, leadership and entrepreneurship. After an extensive nomination process, David secured this very prestigious scholarship and is now furthering his studies by doing his Honours in Actuarial Science.

He is a driven young man with a great appreciation for the opportunities that was awarded to him and MAD has no doubt that he will make a huge impact in the community he serves. K
