J o 0 , - NATIONAL WINNER FOREST MANAGEMENT Jason Daugherty Jason Daugherty, member of the Lineville FFA Chapter, representing the Southern Region, was declared the 1992 National Winner in the Forest Management Proficiency Award Program during the 65th National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. The Forest Management Award program is designed to provide agriculture with the opportunity for job entry experiences concerned with the principles and practices involved in the forestry industry by employing the best management practices available for the efficient production and marketing of forestry products. Jason began his project with 10 acres of forest and planted pine trees, cut firewood, and plowed firelanes around timber. He managed to sell 5 acres of pulpwood to a private logger and used some of the money to replant the five acres in pine trees the following winter. By enlisting in the U.S. Army, Jason plans to use the Army College Fund to pay for college. He plans to study forest management at Auburn University. Things such as the installation of an irrigation system and the skills of tractor and machinery maintenance have allowed him to reach peak efficiency and lower costs. Jason Daugherty, member of the Lineville FFA Chapter, representing the Southern Region, was declared the 1992 National Winner in the Forest Management Proficiency Award Program during the 65th National FFA Convention in Kansas City, Missouri. The G. W. Long Agricultural Mechanics Team was on of 46 Agricultural Mechanics teams participating in the 65th Nati onal FFA Convention in Kansas City. The Falkville Dairy Cattle Judging Team represented Alabama in national competition. Pictured with the team is Charles Beckendorf, corporate director, Associated Milk Producers, Inc., sponsor. The Lineville Forestry Judging Team competed in the Forestry Judging Contest during the recent National Convention. The team placed fourth out of 33 teams. Kirk Miller was the second high scoring individual in this competition. Honorary American FFA Degrees were presented to Teachers of Agribusiness Education (I-r) Stacy Hatcher, Hartford; Randall Paramore, Notasulga (retired), and Alan Waters, Daleville. The Red Bay FF A String Band entertained at various events during the National Convention. They also participated in the talent program. Members of this band are (I-r) Rodney Pruitt, Kevin McCarthy, Chris Wright, Lisa Winchester, Torrey Lewey, Keenan Hastings (drums), Rachael Hall, and Jennifer Jackson.
