From the Pastor’s Desk… With the celebration of Pentecost we are celebrating the birth of the Church. Within humble origins Jesus selected a group of men as Apostles to execute the mission of bringing the Gospel and the Good News to the entire world. Jesus did not select the educated and powerful, nor the high birth or wealthy. On the contrary, he selected a group of non-prominent men within the society of Galilee such as fishermen, a tax collector, those lacking experience and the youth to walk with him for three years and to learn God’s will through his Son and our Savior. The truth of it all is that despite the fact of having spent three years with the Master, seen his miracles, heard his sermons, being witness of his signs and expressions of love, being witness of his theophanies, his crucifixion and resurrection they were still afraid. They still suffered from a sense of abandonment, uncertainty and an unpredictable future. Surely the question at stack for them was, And now what? But being together in prayer with the Virgen Mary, a point of light, a burst of wind and a moment of illumination surprised them all. The Holy Spirit descended upon all of them and changed the meaning of the lives of this group of insecure men giving them the courage to go to the streets, to go to the world and to preach the Word of God. Not only were they transformed with a new awareness and disposition, they were able to understand and also they were understood by others. Through the history of the Church the Holy Spirit has guided the hearts of those who are open to its message. The Holy Spirit was present with St. Catherine of Siena when she insisted to the Pope to return the papacy located in Avignon, France, to Rome. It was the Spirit of truth who moved St. Francis of Assisi to bring a renewal to the Church and found his religious order, the Franciscans, and in such to bring spiritual newness to the Church very much needed at the time. It was the Holy Spirit who inspired Pope John XXIII in calling the II Vatican Council in a desire for an “Aggiornamento” (to update) the practices and operative theology of the Church. But the Holy Spirit is not done yet. It continues assisting us on a personal and Church level. While life presents us situations, circumstances and challenges that we don’t even fathom, the Holy Spirit illuminates and indicates us the way to go. As the technology and human knowledge goes forward, life changes, evolves, creates new situations. The Holy Spirit once again will descend over his Church, over us, giving us the courage and the wisdom to do what is right, what is needed, what is just. It is clear that the Holy Spirit has a lot to do, in our country, in our Church and in our lives. As we reflect on our openness to Him, let us allow Him to mold and shape our world, our society, our Church and our lives. “Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts or your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love”. Del Escritorio del Párroco… Con la celebración de Pentecostés celebramos el cumpleaños de la Iglesia. Dentro de los orígenes humildes y sencillos Jesús seleccionó un grupo de hombres como Apóstoles para llevar a cabo la misión de llevar el Evangelio y la Buena Nueva a todo el mundo. Jesús no seleccionó a los letrados y poderosos, ni a los de alta posición social u económica de su tiempo. Al contrario, selecciona un grupo de hombres no prominentes dentro de la sociedad Galilea como pescadores, un cobrador de impuestos, inexpertos y jóvenes para caminar con él por tres años y aprender la voluntad de Dios a través de su Hijo y nuestro Salvador. La verdad del caso fue que a pesar de haber pasado

todo ese tiempo con el Maestro, haber visto sus milagros, escuchado sus sermones, ser testigos de varios signos y expresiones extraordinarias de su amor, presenciado sus teofanías, después de vivir su crucifixión y resurrección todavía tenían miedo. Todavía para ellos había un sentido de abandono, de lo impredecible e incierto. Seguramente la pregunta que se hacían fue, ¿Y ahora qué? Pero al estar unidos en oración con la santísima Virgen María, un punto de luz, una ráfaga de viento y un momento de iluminación los sorprendió. El Espíritu Santo descendió sobre todos ellos y cambió el significado de sus vidas dándoles a este grupo de hombres inseguros y temerosos el valor de ir a las calles, ir al mundo y predicar la Palabra de Dios. No simplemente fueron transformados con una nueva concientización y disposición porque pudieron entender sino también pudieron ser entendidos por los demás. A través de la historia de la Iglesia el Espíritu Santo ha guiado los corazones de aquellos quienes están abiertos a su mensaje. El Espíritu Santo estuvo con santa Catalina de Siena cuando ella le insistió al Papa que regresara el papado que se encontraba en Aviñón, Francia, a Roma. Fue el Espíritu de Verdad quien movió a san Francisco de Asís en traer la renovación de la Iglesia y fundar su orden religiosa, los franciscanos, y así llevar a cabo una reforma espiritual en la Iglesia muy necesitada en su momento. Fue el Espíritu Santo quien inspiró al Papa Juan XXIII a llamar a colación el Concilio Vaticano II en su deseo por un “Aggiornamiento” (poner al día) las prácticas y la teología operativa de la Iglesia. Pero el Espíritu Santo no ha terminado. El continúa asistiéndonos a nivel de la Iglesia y a nivel personal. Mientras la vida nos presenta situaciones, retos y desafíos que ni siquiera nos imaginábamos, el Espíritu nos orienta, ilumina y nos indica el camino a seguir. Al avanzar la tecnología y el conocimiento humano, cambia la vida, evoluciona, creando nuevas situaciones. A la luz de desafíos recientes y situaciones no previstas el Espíritu Santo, Él mismo nos dejará saber lo que tenemos que hacer. El descenderá nuevamente sobre su Iglesia, sobre nosotros, dándonos el valor y la sabiduría para poder hacer lo que es correcto, lo que es necesario, lo que es junto. Queda claro que el Espíritu Santo tiene mucho trabajo que hacer en nuestro país, nuestra Iglesia y nuestras vidas. Al reflexionar sobre nuestra apertura hacia Él permitamos que Él modele y remodele nuestro mundo, nuestra sociedad, nuestra Iglesia y nuestras vidas. “Ven Espíritu Santo, llena los corazones de tus fieles y enciende en ellos el fuego de tu amor”. !Feliz cumpleaños querida Iglesia!

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you! The descent of the Holy Spirit upon Mary and the apostles took place shortly after Jesus’ ascension into Heaven. This spectacular event marked the birth of the Universal Church of Christ. Before being taken up beyond the clouds Christ sent his chosen apostles to make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Beforehand, he instructed them to remain in Jerusalem and await the Father’s promise. This promise is the perfect love between God the Father and the Son, Jesus Christ. Today, just as at then, it is the power of the third person of the Blessed Trinity which continues to inspire, guide, and sanctify the Church to accomplish its evangelistic mission throughout the entire world. ¡La Paz del Señor esté con ustedes! El Espíritu Santo descendió sobre María y los apóstoles poco después de ascender Jesús al Cielo. Este evento espectacular marca el nacimiento de la Iglesia Universal de Cristo. Antes de haber desaparecido más allá de las nubes Jesucristo dejó a Sus apóstoles elegidos la misión de enseñar a todas las naciones, bautizándolas en el nombre del Padre y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. Anteriormente les había ordenado a que permanecieran en Jerusalén a esperar la promesa del Padre. Esta promesa es el amor perfecto entre el Padre Dios y Jesucristo Su Hijo. Blue Stewardship Envelopes

In 2000-2001 we introduced the Blue Stewardship Envelope to our parishioners. We wanted to cut down on second collections and still be able to support many other programs and ministries. Today we receive fewer and fewer blue envelopes and less focus has been given to the programs and ministries listed on the back side of the envelopes. We have decided to discontinue the envelope yet we will still be taking up stewardship collections. Beginning in July we will begin to take up second collections twice a month. The monies received will be used to offset our deficit and to continue supporting our programs and our ministries. We will also go back to taking up the Archdiocesan collections as a second collection on the appropriate dates. We have also included a once a month envelope for our Sharing Parish, St. Malachy-Precious Blood. We want to continue supporting our sister churches who are in need of our prayers and our financial support. We would like to thank all the parishioners who used the blue envelopes as good stewards of our faith. We look forward to your continued support of our parish in all its works and endeavors.

Sobres Azules de

Mayordomía En 2000-2001 introducimos el sobre azul de mayordomía a los feligreses. Queríamos reducir las segunda colectas y aún seguir apoyando muchos otros programas y ministerios.

Al día de hoy estamos recibiendo menos y menos sobres azules y hay menos enfoque en los programas y ministerios mencionados en la parte posterior de los sobres. Hemos decidido descontinuar el sobre pero todavía tomaremos colectas de mayordomía. A partir de julio vamos a empezar a tomar segunda colectas dos veces al mes. El dinero recibido se utilizará para compensar nuestro déficit y seguir apoyando nuestros programas y nuestros ministerios. También volveremos a tomar las colectas Arquidiocesanas como una segunda colecta en las fechas adecuadas. También hemos incluido un sobre una vez al mes para nuestra parroquia de compartiendo, St. Malachy-Precious Blood. Queremos seguir apoyando a nuestras iglesias hermanas que necesitan nuestras oraciones y nuestro apoyo financiero. Queremos agradecerle a todos los feligreses quienes usaron los sobres azules como buenos mayordomos de nuestra fe. Esperamos su apoyo continuo de nuestra parroquia en todas sus obras y esfuerzos.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Wednesday in the Thiele Center from 10am to noon. This group knits and crochets prayer shawls while praying individually and as a group for the recipient of each shawl. These shawls represent a visible symbol of our prayers and presence. Shawls have

been given to those facing challenging times, illness or to celebrate a special moment to bring the comfort and warmth of God’s love and healing. For more information on how to request a prayer shawl please contact the rectory, 773-278-4808. El Ministerio Mantas de Oración se reúne todos los miércoles en el Centro Pastoral de 10am a medio día. Este grupo hace mantas de oración hechos de tejido o de ganchillo mientras rezan individualmente y como grupo para que el receptor de cada manta. Estas mantas representan un símbolo visible de nuestras oraciones y presencia. Las mantas se han dado a aquellos que enfrentan tiempos difíciles, enfermedad o para celebrar un momento especial para llevar el apoyo y la calidez del amor de Dios y la sanación.
