In the readings of this Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary time, we see two types of lives with opposite realities and with the same dilemma. Both lives needed the mercy of God. On the one hand we have Jairo, head of the synagogue, a man, with a position and respected by his colleagues, with a daughter with "a whole life ahead" and socially protected. Jairo approaches Jesus with confidence, strength and publicly puts himself at the feet of Jesus. Implores insistently that Jesus see his dying daughter so that he can cure her. Jairo with all his status, the weight of his situation and privileged circumstances turns to Jesus. Confident and breaking cultural conventions, he kneels before Christ, placing all his trust in him. His daughter is resurrected. On the other side we have the hemorrhoid, woman, poor, vulnerable without life or religious (is impure) or social (cannot touch anyone) and dying every day little by little, approaches Jesus. Her disposition was one of anonymity, of fear and even of shame. But there was only one thought, one belief: "Just touching the mantle of Jesus she would be healed." With deep humility violating cultural norms and purity, she approaches Jesus, on her back and touches him. Her body is healed. What is the connection point? What is the common denominator pattern? Both had faith! Regardless of their gender differences, social abysses and hierarchical-religious differences both believed that Jesus could bring them life, healing. They demonstrated their faith in particular ways, Jairo publicly and the woman secretly, with deep humility. They both bent knee, both doubled the heart. Faith is something public. It is not a matter between God and me. You have to give the testimony in the open field. It is to leave the darkness of anonymity to the luminosity of a public and intentional gesture such as coming to mass. Faith is something constant. It is not procuring when we need something. God is not a God just for when we are in need. And the result? When everything was lost and his daughter is dead, Christ resurrects her. When doctors cannot discover the cure for the woman, Christ heals her of all evil. Jairo's faith causes his daughter to rise from the passivity of the grave. The faith of the hemorrhoid woman, who had no resources, no courage, no importance in the society in which she lived, makes her able to speak, confess her truth and receive healing, rising from a death in life. For the two, faith becomes the reception of the bonanza of a God of love and in response to their faith they receive life and the promise of eternal life. Let us imitate these glorious gospel characters, and within our style we demonstrate our faith, abandoning ourselves in the mercy of the Creator so that God may do extraordinary work with our lives.

En las lecturas de este Décimo Tercer Domingo del tiempo Ordinario, vemos dos tipos de vidas con realidades opuestas y con un mismo dilema. Ambas vidas necesitaban de la misericordia de Dios. Por un lado tenemos a Jairo, jefe de la sinagoga, hombre, con posición y respetado por sus compañeros, con una hija con “toda una vida por delante” y socialmente protegida. Jairo se acerca a Jesús con confianza, fuerza y de manera pública se hecha a sus pies. Implora con insistencia el que Jesús visite a su hija moribunda para que la cure. Jairo con todo su estatus, el peso de su situación y circunstancias privilegiadas se vuelve a Jesús. Confiado y rompiendo convenciones culturales se arrodilla ante Cristo, depositando toda su confianza en él. Su hija resucita. Por el otro lado tenemos la hemorroísa, mujer, pobre, vulnerable, sin vida ni religiosa (está impura) ni social (no puede tocar a nadie) y muriendo cada día poco a poco, se acerca a Jesús. Su disposición fue una de anonimato, de

temor y hasta de vergüenza. Pero uno sola era su pensamiento, una sola su creencia: “Con tan sólo tocar el manto de Jesús se curaría”. Con profunda humildad, violando las normas culturales y de pureza se

acerca a Jesús, a sus espaldas y le toca. Su cuerpo queda sanado. ¿Cuál es el punto de conexión? ¿Cuál es el patrón común denominador? ¡Ambos tuvieron fe! Sin importar sus diferencias de géneros, abismos sociales y diferencias jerárquicas-religiosas ambos creyeron en que Jesús podía traerles vida, sanación. Demostraron su fe de maneras particulares, Jairo de forma pública y la mujer de manera secreta, con profunda humildad. Ambos doblaron rodilla, ambos doblaron el corazón. La fe es algo público. No es un asunto entre

Dios y yo. Hay que dar el testimonio a campo abierto. Es salir de la oscuridad del anonimato a la luminosidad de un gesto público e intencional como por ejemplo venir a misa. La fe es algo constante. No es

procurarla cuando necesitamos algo. Dios no es un Dios sólo en la necesidad. ¿Y el resultado? Cuando ya todo estaba dado por perdido y su hija dada por muerta Cristo la resucita. Cuando los doctores no pueden descubrir la cura para la mujer Cristo la sana de todo mal. La fe de Jairo hace que su hija se levante de la pasividad de la tumba. La fe de la mujer hemorroísa, que no tenía recursos, ni valor, ni importancia en la sociedad en que vivía, hace que ella pueda hablar, confesar su verdad y recibir sanación, levantándose de la muerte a la vida. Para los dos la fe se convierte en recibir la bonanza de un Dios de amor y en respuesta a su fe reciben vida y la promesa de vida eterna. Imitemos a estos gloriosos personajes del evangelio y dentro de nuestro estilo demostremos nuestra fe, abandonándonos en la misericordia del Creador para que Dios haga obras extraordinarias con nuestras vidas.

Fourth Task of Catechesis: Teaching to Pray – Teach that a “climate of prayer” and participation in prayer invites individuals into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Prayer has been described in many different ways through the centuries; at its most basic level, prayer is talking with God. According to Scripture, it is the heart that prays. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2562) In experiencing different forms of prayer, we discover how best to talk with God. Our spirituality is our way of being in relationship with God. Each person is unique and has a unique relationship with God. The desire for God is written in the human heart because we are created by God and for God and God never ceases to draw us to Himself. Only in God will we find the truth and happiness for which we search. (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, 27)

Cuarta Tarea de Catequesis: Enseñar a Orar – Enseñar que una “clima de oración” y participar en oración invita a individuos entrar en relación personal con Jesucristo. Oración ha sido descrita de muchas maneras a través de los siglos; en su nivel más básico, la oración es hablar con Dios. Según las escrituras, es el corazón que ora. (CCC, 2562) En experimentar diferentes formas de oración, descubrimos cuál es la mejor para hablar con Dios. Nuestra espiritualidad es nuestra manera de estar en relación con Dios. Cada persona es única y tiene una relación única con Dios. El deseo de Dios está escrito en el corazón humano porque fuimos creados por Dios y para Dios y Dios nunca deja de atraernos a Sí mismo. Sólo en Dios encontraremos la verdad y la felicidad que buscamos. (cf. CCC, 27)

Today we welcome to our parish, Rev. Rigoberto Gamez. Fr. Gamez Alfonso. Fr. Gamez will be residing in our parish while working as a Associate Vicar for Canonical Affairs for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Fr. Gamez will also be helping us with weekend and weekday masses whenever his schedule permits. The following is Fr. Gamez’s bio. Fr. Gamez came to the United States in July 2005 as Associate Pastor at the Providence of God Parish in Chicago, Illinois, and then, in February 2007, he was appointed Parish Administrator of the same parish. Also in February 2007 he was appointed: Enlace del Señor Cardenal for the Movement of the Charismatic Renewal in the Archdiocese of Chicago, a ministry he continues to carry out today, spiritually guiding 80 communities present in 80 parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Chicago. Since 2008, he has also been named the Sacramental Link Defender in the Nullity Declaration Processes in the Metropolitan Court of the Archdiocese of Chicago, and Professor at DePaul University for the Faculty of ESFOR (School of Formation in Youth Ministry). Currently, he continues to carry out all these aforementioned ministries. On June 19, 2009, Fr. Gamez was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Tepeyac, in Chicago, Il., A ministry he began to exercise on July 1, 2009. United together in prayer and work and under the protection of the Blessed Virgin, we are sure that we will achieve many goals and that everything will be for the glory of God and for the good of our beloved Church. Father Rigoberto, We are with you, you are in our daily prayers and nothing is impossible for those who have faith, the Lord Jesus tells us.

Hoy damos la bienvenida a nuestra parroquia, Rev. Rigoberto Gamez. P. Gamez Alfonso. P. Gamez residirá en nuestra parroquia mientras trabaja como Vicario Asociado para Asuntos Canónicos de la Arquidiócesis de Chicago. P. Gamez también

nos ayudará con fines de semana y misas de lunes a viernes siempre que lo permita su agenda. El siguiente es la biografía del P. Gamez. El P. Gamez llegó a los Estados Unidos en Julio 2005 como Pastor asociado en la Parroquia Providencia de Dios, de Chicago, Illinois, y luego, en febrero de 2007 fue nombrado Administrador parroquial de la misma parroquia. Actualmente sigue desempeñando todos estos ministerios anteriormente mencionados. El 19 de junio 2009, el P. Gamez fue nombrado Párroco de Nuestra Señora del Tepeyac, en Chicago, Il., ministerio que comenzó a ejercer a partir del 1 de julio de 2009. Unidos juntos en oración y trabajo y bajo la protección de la santísima Virgen, estamos seguros que lograremos muchas metas y que todo será para la gloria de Dios y para el bien de nuestra amada Iglesia. Padre Rigoberto, Estamos con usted, usted está en nuestras oraciones diarias y nada es imposible para el que tiene fe, nos dice el Señor Jesús.
