Create a matrix or other appropriate chart depicting points of interests in the country. Chart should include WHAT the points of interests are and WHY those areas of the countryhave developed into tourists attractions. Include a minimum of 5. Title the chart.

Objective: EXPLAIN three current problems of a region and DETERMINE possible solutions.Materials: type paper, pencils, internet, textbook, atlas, student/teacher resourcesFormat: Student choiceDirections: Conduct research on current problems of a region.

1. Identify a minimum of 3 problems; why the problems exists; how long the problems have existed; and what are the possible solutions for those problems and current issues. 2. Create an appropriate chart and record necessary information.3. Title the chart.

Objective: JUSTIFY the connections of a region to the United States. Materials : type paper, pencils, internet, textbook, students/teacher resourcesFormat: Student choiceDirections: Create a chart illustrating the following: Why does this region matter to the United States? What part of this region’s history or culture is relative to the United States? (wars, economy, trade, immigration, etc…) Choose of minimum of 3 reasons. You may also choose to focus on one country in the region. Title your chart.

Objective: SUMMARIZE a current event about a region and include article as evidence.Materials: type paper, pencils, internet, magazines, newspapers, or digital mediaFormat: Summary (Length is determined by article.)Directions: Identify a current event on a region. Write asummary of the article, and include article as evidence. Summary should include who wrote the article, where is the geographical location of the topic, what the article is about, when the article was written or when the event took place, and why the article was written. Materials: type paper, pencils, internet, textbook, atlas, students/teacher resourcesFormat: Bubble map or concept mapDirections: Formulate a 5 point bubble map or concept map. Label the center the location of your travel experience. See example below. Choose one personal travel experience. This could be a week long vacation or a one day adventure. Use the 5 themes of geography to describe your place of travel. You may use sentences or bullets. Give at least 3 examples of each theme. Title your map.

The artwork helps make the product portfolio unique to the student. Artwork may include computer generated photos or images, hand drawn artwork, paintings, word clouds, or calligraphy. Students must have a minimum of four different sheets of artwork. A title, caption or explanation of each piece of artwork must be included. See examples below.

OBJECTIVE 13:

Objective: CREATE an effective table of contents.Materials: Student portfolio activities and standard size type paperFormat: Table of Contents/ListingDirections: Students should put all product portfolio activities in order according to World Geography rubric. Students should place personal artwork in appropriate place throughout the portfolio. Artwork must be identified on table of contents, not just labeled “artwork.” Once all work is in correct order, students should create a table of contents. EVERY PAGE OF PORTFOLIO SHOULD BE NOTED ON THE TABLE OF CONTENTS EXCEPT FOR COVER PAGE. Title the page.

OBJECTIVE 14:

Objective: CONSTRUCT a neat, organized, and well developed product portfolio.Materials: Student portfolio activitiesFormat: Follow World Geography rubric and guidelines.Directions: Students should make sure all materials are completed following the World Geography portfolio guidelines. All papers must be neat and orderly. Points will be deducted for torn, scribbled, messy, or ruffled papers. All activities must have writing ONLY ON THE FRONT. All activities must be completed on typing paper. Anything on notebook paper will not be graded. Any activities not previously done must be completed to get credit for activity #14. All activities must be inserted into sheet protectors.

OBJECTIVE 15:

Objective: CITE all sources used and RECORD objectives mastered for each activity.Materials: Student portfolio activities and sources used throughout project and example handout.Format: World Geography rubric and guidelinesDirections: At the bottom of each activity, record the objective (s) mastered AND the source (s) used for each activity. Writing must be very neat and readable. See attached handout for proper procedures for citing sources. Students may choose to include a source page at the END of the portfolio instead of listing the source (s) at bottom of each page. If you choose this method, you must list which activities coincide with which sources. Source page must be included in Table of Contents.
