ImerPrint™ 07K is a hydrous kaolin with a natural pH around 5, making it inert/neutral in the presence of fountain solution.

Due to its hydrophilic character and fine platey structure, ImerPrint™ 07K allows good emulsification of the ink with

fountain solution on the printing press. When pigmented inks containing kaolin are in contact with fount solution, a good

and stable water uptake around 50% is obtained. The advantage of ImerPrint™ 07K compared to standard kaolins is that

it does not cause kaolin washout into the fount solution. This has been achieved by carefully controlling the kaolin feed,

chemistry and process route.

ImerPrint™ 07K is processed to a required fine particle size with a controlled top-cut (low amount of coarse particles).

It disperses well in ink varnishes, resulting in low Hegman values (less than 5–10µm) after bead milling.

The shape and mineralogy of ImerPrint™ 07K is particularly beneficial for imparting some gel structure or strength

to the ink. Such increase in viscosity significantly reduces misting on the printing press.

The use of ImerPrint™ 07K in lithographic inks gives good print performance and colour strength at high kaolin addition levels.

When a given amount of ink is applied on print rollers, high print density is maintained with increasing kaolin levels up to 20wt%

in coldset formulations.

In heatset, print gloss and density are maintained up to about 10wt% kaolin addition. For offset inks containing ImerPrint™ 07K,

a lower amount of ink is required on the print rollers to give acceptable print density compared to an ink containing a blocky

mineral extender. ImerPrint™ 07K therefore improves ink mileage and provides good pigment efficiency. ImerPrint™ 07K structure

also reduces ink penetration into paper fibres, resulting in better ink holdout onto the paper surface and reduced strike-through.

ImerPrint™ 07K

Overall, ImerPrint™ 07K offers a combination of reduced ink misting, improved lithotronic behaviour

and good printability, allowing higher addition level into printing inks formulation and delivering

a more effective cost-performance solution.
