4 | WELCOME TO THE CHURCH OF ST. PATRICK OF EDINA

66 West News The proposed 66 West Apartments is a collabora ve project with Beacon Interfaith Ministries and Edina Community Lutheran Church. The goal is to provide 39 supported efficiency units for young adults between the ages of 18 and 22 who were, “precariously” housed or previously homeless in the Southwest suburbs.

“Precariously” housed refers to a young person who does not have a permanent home and is in danger of becoming homeless.

How could a young person in the Southwest suburbs become homeless? The short answer is that many families are struggling financially due to the Great Recession. Many sectors of the economy have not bounced back yet. Some parents have not been able to secure employment at their previous income level so they have lost their housing. And, there may be unhealthy family dynamics.

The Twin Ci es housing market is expensive. The proposed 66 West Apartments provides individual leases for tenants, support to secure paid employment and to pursue educa on. Tenants are expected to earn a por on of their rent each month and the balance is paid through private grants, and government housing funds.  There

are also case managers who will help tenants build a healthy and produc ve lifestyle.

There will be security, on‐site property management and all local expecta ons for property owners will be applied. This property does generate tax revenue. This will repurpose an exis ng (old TCF building) space to add to the economic and social vitality of our community.

This is NOT a food pantry, drug or alcohol rehabilita on facility, homeless shelter or a place for people who are mentally ill. It is a suppor ve housing project for mo vated young adults that need a “hand up” from poverty!

If you would like more details, please contact the Office of Social Jus ce at St. Patrick’s at 952‐767‐0942 or mschnorbach@stpatrick‐edina.org. This project has been approved by St. Patrick’s Social Jus ce Commission and the Office of Social Jus ce at Catholic Chari es of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Thank you for your con nued support!
