The Aston EdgeThe Aston Edge is part of the Online MBA programme, developed to work in tandem with the core curriculum. You will build a portfolio and gain critical skills such as innovation, managing organisational change, solving complex problems and adapting to multiple work environments.

Multiple PathwaysChoose a particular pathway from a number of options to tailor your degree to your professional needs.

MBA ProjectThe MBA project is the cumulative product of coursework combined with practical application to a number of business scenarios. Multiple project types are available and can potentially be sourced by your current employer. You have four blocks (six months) to complete the major project.

AdmissionsTo enter the online programme, applicants need one of the following:

• A good UK honours degree or an equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University, together with 3 years of management experience.

• If you do not have a honours degree or equivalent, you may be considered on 7+ years management/progressive leadership experience, clearly detailed in your CV.

• If you do not have management experience and are looking to enhance your business skills, Aston offers an Online MSc in Business and Management.

In addition, applicants must have three years of postgraduate work experience and two references, one from an academic referee and one from a current or previous employer.

International StudentsInternational students require an official academic transcript with an official English translation of uni-versity grades.

International students whose native language is not English will need to satisfy English language requirements of the University.

The module aims to enable students to understand and interpret a range of financial statements and other financial information organisational stakeholders use to aid decision-making in relation to the allocation of capital.

• Creating and Delivering Customer Value — 15 Credits The module aims to develop skills and competencies necessary to critically analyse organisational marketing options and contribute to strategic marketing decision-making.

• Designing and Managing Operations, Systems and Processes — 15 Credits The module aims to provide an understanding of the role of operations management and how it contributes to business competitiveness.

• Crafting Organisational Strategy — 15 Credits The module aims to enable students to analyse strategic issues facing a variety of different organisations using appropriate concepts, frameworks and models to inform strategic decision-making.

• The Global Economic Environment — 15 Credits This module introduces students to fundamental concepts in economics to help them develop an economic perspective on business decision-making in a wide range of contexts and applications.

• Leading Complex Organisations — 15 Credits The module aims to introduce theoretical and real-world perspectives on leading modern complex organisations, including consideration of the complexity of behaviour, processes, systems and cultures.

15 Credits This module will be taken along with the pathways or other modules.

Critically reflect on progress as a means of raising self-awareness and stimulating action as part of a continuous development process. Communicate effectively to a geographically diverse audience using digital media. Identify problems, challenges and/or opportunities in their organisational or career context and design effective research-based approaches to investigate these and implement appropriate responses.

There are two options available to you. You can choose to follow one of the four available pathways where your modules are selected for you, or you can select two optional modules.

If you decide to follow one of the four pathways and to complete your final Business Project in the same area, then this specialism can be recorded on your final Programme of Study.

Entrepreneurship PathwayGain the analytical and strategic skills necessary to start a successful small business or to innovate within an existing organisation.

• Discuss the key theories and strategic practice of entrepreneurship.

• Evaluate the growth and market potential of existing and new business opportunities.

• Prepare a feasible and sustainable plan for the creation of a new business venture based on a clearly identified commercial opportunity.

Entrepreneurial Strategies — 15 Credits This module aims to equip students with the analytical and strategic skills necessary to start a successful small business. It also aims to contribute to an entrepreneurial culture among Aston postgraduates and encourage students to consider entrepreneurship as an alternative to employment.

Legal Challenges: Starting an Innovative Business — 15 Credits This module aims to provide students with an understanding of intellectual property law, copyright, patents, trademarks, designs and know-how. The module will allow them to recognise what intellectual property rights exist, who owns the rights, how to protect them and how to enforce them.

Finance PathwayLearn financial principles and build the skills required to analyse and solve financial challenges faced by an organisation.

• Identify and analyse the financial problems faced by firms in their financial and economic environments.

• Use financial tools to provide effective solutions to organisational challenges.

• Critically evaluate financial theory to identify effective solutions to organisational challenges.

Business Finance — 15 Credits Examine the key principles and challenges of financial management decisions, the characteristics of different forms of finance and the linkages between organisations, financial markets and financial strategy.

Strategic Management Accounting — 15 Credits Master the strategic tools and techniques accounting managers use to plan and control a range of international organisations in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors and the behavioural problems encountered during the process.
