What is Digital TV?What is Digital TV?Digital television (DTV) is an innovative type of broadcasting technology that enables a dramatically clearer picture and better sound quality by sending and receiving moving images and sound by digital signals (1’s & 0’s), in contrast to the current analog signals.
Digital television supports many different picture formats defined by the combination of size, aspect ratio, (height-to-width ratio) interlaced and progressive.
With terrestrial broadcasting in the USA, the range of formats can be coarsely divided into two categories: HDTV and SDTV. It should be noted that theseterms by themselves are not very precise, and many subtle intermediate cases exist.

Analog vs. DigitalAnalog vs. Digital
Receiving analog (NTSC) TV was pretty simple. The intensity of the analog RF signal determines how clean your picture is – stronger signals mean less snow and noise on the audio. The amplitude of the signal determines the luminance of the picture, and the 3.58 MHzchrominance subcarrier provides color and sync information.
Digital is completely different. Once your DTV receiver acquires a digital TV signal, it is demodulated into a stream of MPEG data packets. These packets contain video, audio, clock, and MPEG program data. Ancillary data known as PSIP (Program and System Information Protocol) provides additional information on the TV stations virtual channel, time and date, program rating, programformat (SD or HD), program guide information, and audio formats.
