I look back to see how the previous year had been and how I did on the goals I set. I always hope that my life was better for the things I accomplished and did. I look to see if I was able to have an impact in our world. And, most of all, I hope to see that I have been faithful to all God has called me to. Then I try to make the goals and resolutions for the upcoming year that will continue to follow where the Lord is leading me. Some of them are ones that many of us look at: losing a few pounds, eating better, getting in shape more, getting rid of the bad things in our lives, spending more time with the Lord, etc. However, I began to see that many of my resolutions were about me, what I wanted to have or get or do. That seemed pretty self-centered. Maybe, instead of looking at what I want to get in the New Year, I should look at what I can give. As we look ahead to 2013 let’s do what king David did. As he experience God’s blessings in his life and found some times of peace and contentment, He began to seek where God needed to be in the center of his life, his family and his kingdom. As David looked back and saw all the good things he had from God’s hand, he wanted to make sure that the Lord would be at the very heart of all he was and did. His dream was to build a temple for God that would do just that. There the Ark of the Covenant would remain in a permanent place in the center of His people. David could not live in the wonders of God’s blessings while His ark remained in a simple tent. He wanted all the people to make God’s presence the center of their hearts and lives. He then went to give and do all he could to make that dream a reality. We too can look back and see that the Lord has been very good to us and has blest us with many special things and opportunities. So then, what will we dream and do to make Him the center of our lives, our families and our church? How are we also looking to make Him our #1 priority? What are we searching to do and give in order to build His kingdom?

    --THE PASTOR’S PEN--

“After the king was settled in his palace and the Lord had given him rest from all his enemies around him, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.” Nathan replied to the king, “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the

Lord is with you.” 2 Samuel 7:1-3

Wow! Another year has arrived and another year has been completed. They sure seem to be coming and going faster. It seemed like a just few weeks ago that we were looking at 2012 and making resolutions, opening ourselves to try new things, and dreaming new dreams. And now we are getting ready to do it all again. Where does it all fly to?

At the beginning of each New Year I like to take some time and evaluate where life is and where I am going.

  • Let’s not be settled with what we have received and have done, but let us spur one another on to do even greater things for our Lord and show the entire world that Christ reigns. Let’s dream His dreams, and then let’s do them with all our hearts. That will make the New Year something special. God Bless.

  • ---A Peek In The Past---

    Missions Through

    The Years

Flood buckets, medical kits, school kits, health kits, hats & mittens, sweatshirts, quilts, prayer shawls, Thanksgiving baskets, food gifts, shoes, boots, baby items!!! Bethel Church provided all of these and more through the years…. As Jesus taught, DO UNTO OTHERS….

An early Mission Trip to Jamaica had our team teaching children at Vacation Bible School ….. Glenda Probert Dibert participated. Mission projects in 1985 included purchasing a TRAG for $2,000 which was shipped overseas. Bethel also sent funds to Dulac, LA where indians were flooded. 1992 – The first mission trip after Jon Gulnac came to Bethel involved our youth. A group of 27 young people went to Kentucky. The girls painted a kitchen; the boys added a 12 x 12 room to a SHACK! Butch and Janet Hoffman were the youth leaders and Pastor Jon, Jill, Glenda Dibert and Delores Crislip Miller assisted on the trip.

1993 – We hosted a summer intern to work with the youth – Kayleen Hilyer. She went to Russia on a mission trip while here.

October, 1994 – The trip was to Southwest Indian School in Arizona, Phoenix area. Pastor Jon, Don Weaver, Kevin and Alan Chesnutwood. That year our Financial Support to various missions by Sunday School classes, groups and individuals totaled $21,623.00!

A team headed to Antiqua June 13-20, 1996 to repair a home of an unchurched family that had hurricane damage, thus showing God’s love. Participants: Pastor Jon, Jill, Rebekah, Dan, Sarah, and Nate Gulnac, Pam and Amber Partsch, Lynn Thomas, Janet and Roger Hoffman. Also Dan Schotnicki, Lisa Flanagan, Beth Stains, Jessie Burkey, Christine Felix, Nicole Howard, Stephanie Morelas – our Summer Intern.

October, 1997 – Church member Christa Stutzman joined a medical team that served in Haiti. May, 1998 found 14 Bethel volunteers at Camp Allegheny helping to spruce up the camp for the coming year.

    Cont.

  • Jamaica – 1999 – The job was helping to put a second floor on a church up in the mountains. They carried materials up ladders, mixed cement by hand and bucketed it to poor the floor. Pastor Jon, Jill Gulnac, Adam Bruscha, Bill Connor, Janet Hoffman, Bill Smith, Jim Chesnutwood and Rebekah Gulnac.

Back to Bamboo Jamaica – July 7-13, 2000. Pastor Jon, Jill, Adam Bruscha, Bill Connor, Janet Hoffman and Bill Smith. This group worked on a stairway to the church. It took quite a while and effort to appease the inspector! He kept coming back and making changes. They also worked with kids in a field nearby where they played whiffle ball! Janet said kids came out of the woodwork to play! ---Carole Wolfhope

    --January 1968--------

Postage increased to $.10 from $ .06. Rev. John Sass had his salary set at $6,000 plus $900 travel for the year. We were on a charge with Elton, therefore, we were responsible for half that amount. Sunday, January 21 – Telephone toll charge was removed beginning today when calling a Johnstown number. Sunday, January 28 – At the regular Council meeting a parsonage building committee was appointed. The house wasn’t completed until 1973. Wednesday, January 31 – Prayer meeting was studying Mark. Attendance was usually 14. Leaders: Rev. John Sass, Mildred Sass, Paul and Ivy Chesnutwood. The pastor had to be at Elton Church part of the time, therefore, lay leadership was essential.

Chartwells is the firm that provides food service to students and the university. He was part of new program started in the 2011-12 academic year that uses Android tablets that give students the ability to complete a variety of tasks. Students can purchase a local movie ticket, check out dining hall menus, pay their cell phone bill and check out local Shippensburg Twitter feeds. The best part is they can order food from a variety of places and get a discount price. Bill is also trying to improve the dining experience with a better menu. A New Year Poem Another fresh new year is here…

    Another year to live!

To banish worry, doubt, and fear,

To love and laugh and give!

This bright new year is given me

To live each day with zest…

To daily grow and try to be

    My highest and my best!

    I have the opportunity

Once more to right some wrongs,

To pray for peace, to plant a tree,

    And sing more joyful songs!
