The Beacon of New Bethel Baptist Church December 2019 XXXVIII Issue #4 Remembering A Holy Night! Christmas is right around the corner. The time of year where we celebrate family, gift-giving, peace on earth, and the birth of our Savior. We all have our favorite parts of the Christmas season. For some it is the decorations and family time. For others its the gifts or the parties. For me, however, the thing I like the most is the music. The radio station in the car gets changed over to Christmas tunes and I walk around humming the hymns that I grew up with. My favorite hymn each year is, O Holy Night! Whenever I hear this song, I can just imagine that night when Jesus was born. It probably wasnt a Silent Night and it wasnt even Away in a Manger. It was in Bethlehem and while Jesus may have been laid in a manger, Im pretty sure the animals around and the hustle and bustle of the town made for an uncomfortable experience for Mary and Joseph that night. But what a Holy Night it was. Those living during this time had not heard from a prophet or messenger of God for around 400 years, and when God broke through again, it was in the voice of a crying childHis Child. It was Jesus, the Holy One that was to be born and who would be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35). The first verse of O Holy Night says thisO holy night! The stars are brightly shining; It is the night of the dear Saviors birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining. Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope-the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn! Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born! O night, O holy night, O night divine! It truly was a divine night when the world had been long in its sin and error and Gods love broke through to bring hope and a new glorious day! Of course, this side of history, we have a bigger picture than those then. We know who this baby was and what He came to do for the world, but what a way to remember the day that prophetic voic- es were realized in the birth of the Savior for all. I am so filled with joy that God appeared! I am so filled with joy that my soul rejoices in Gods perfect plan of salvation. It was indeed a holy night and a divine night. But it wasnt just His birth that we celebrate, it is what He has done for us and taught us as well. It s why He was born.

Remembering A Holy Night!

Christmas is right around the corner. The time of year where we celebrate family, gift-giving, peace on

earth, and the birth of our Savior. We all have our favorite parts of the Christmas season. For some it is

the decorations and family time. For others it’s the gifts or the parties. For me, however, the thing I like

the most is the music. The radio station in the car gets changed over to Christmas tunes and I walk

around humming the hymns that I grew up with.

My favorite hymn each year is, O Holy Night! Whenever I hear this song, I can just imagine that night

when Jesus was born. It probably wasn’t a Silent Night and it wasn’t even Away in a Manger. It was in Bethlehem

and while Jesus may have been laid in a manger, I’m pretty sure the animals around and the hustle and bustle of the

town made for an uncomfortable experience for Mary and Joseph that night. But what a Holy Night it was. Those

living during this time had not heard from a prophet or messenger of God for around 400 years, and when God

broke through again, it was in the voice of a crying child…His Child. It was Jesus, the Holy One that was to be

born and who would be called the Son of God (Luke 1:35).

The first verse of O Holy Night says this…

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining;

It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining.

Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope-the weary world rejoices,

For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees! O hear the angel voices!

O night divine, O night when Christ was born!

O night, O holy night, O night divine!

It truly was a divine night when the world had been long in its sin and error and God’s love broke through to bring hope and a new glorious day! Of course, this side of history, we have a bigger picture than those then. We know who this baby was and what He came to do for the world, but what a way to remember the day that prophetic voic-es were realized in the birth of the Savior for all. I am so filled with joy that God appeared! I am so filled with joy that my soul rejoices in God’s perfect plan of salvation. It was indeed a holy night and a divine night. But it wasn’t just His birth that we celebrate, it is what He has done for us and taught us as well. It’s why He was born.

The last verse of this hymn reminds us…

Truly He taught us to love one another;

His law is love and His gospel is peace.

Chains shall He break, for the slave is our brother,

And in His name all oppression shall cease,

Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we;

Let all within us praise His holy name.

Christ is the Lord! O praise His name forever!

His power and glory evermore proclaim!

His power and glory evermore proclaim!

The love of Jesus and the Gospel of Peace that only He brings means that He breaks the power of sin. He breaks the

worldly mindset that so divides people and He reconciles all people and all things to God and to each other so that

His power and glory would forever be proclaimed.

As we move through this Christmas season, remember we celebrate a Savior who came to experience everything

we do, but who lived without sin so that He would fulfill His earthly mission to shed His holy blood as a sacrifice

for you and for me, be buried, and then rise again to new life. I often say at this time of year, “One cannot simply

look at the wood of the manger without looking forward to the wood of the cross.” Because Jesus came and ful-

filled what He set out to do, we too, can have new life in Him. What an amazing salvation we have that all started

with the birth of our Savior.

This Christmas, we remember that awesome Holy Night when Christ was born. We remember His love. We re-

member His gospel of peace, but we also remember His work for all to come to salvation in His name. May God

bless you and your families this Christmas as you celebrate together and remember that wonderful Holy Night,

when Christ was born!

Merry Christmas,

Pastor Chad

Family Gift Tags

There are still a few tags left for the families we are helping this year for Christmas. Please have all gifts re-turned to the church office no later than December 15.

Verona Tree Lighting

Please join us as we host the 2019 Verona Christmas Tree Lighting on December 14 from 4:30-7:00 pm. Local businesses will be helping to provide food, carriage rides, the tree/decorations and a visit from Santa. Our contribution will be to provide the location, cookies, live nativity and community choir. If you are interested in helping set up/clean up or providing Christmas cookies, please see Missy Clinkenbeard. The Community choir sign-up sheet is on the office door. Hope to see you there!

Children’s Christmas Program

The children’s department will be presenting the Christmas musical “The Christmas Shoe Tree.” Through scripture, songs, and a heartwarming story, they will not only share the good news of Christmas; but will also be collecting shoes to be given to those in need in our community. If you would like to donate, please drip them off downstairs in Pam Kirk’s office. All donations will go to the Walton-Verona Youth Service Center.
