The first event of our Conga in support of our veterans was a resounding success in spite of Mother Nature.

It was 13 degrees, overcast when we arrived at Mighty Peace Harley-Davidson. I really wasnt holding my breath for any kind of a turn out, but there were already 8 bikes when hubby and I pulled in.

I went into the dealership with my gear and Road Trip Rita and got set up.

Everyone enjoyed a couple of cups of coffee and some donuts and muffins and there were quite a few giggles as I asked the riders to come and meet my Beaver and hug her. The adult tongue in cheek humour was hilarious.

After a bunch of photos and a couple of short interviews we were off on the bikes for Fairview and the Dunvegan Inn. 20 bikes, 21 people and we had a blast. Yes we got wet but it wasnt a hard rain more of a misty one.

  • Dunvegan Inn sponsored for Free to all registered riders! Val was busy in the kitchen!

If you have never been to the Dunvegan Inn and Suites in Fairview I am here to tell you that it is a MUST do when visiting in this North Country. They are a member of the Rider Friendly Business Association and one of the MOST rider friendly hotels ever. I think that has to do a lot with Val and her hubby both avid riders.

When checking into this hotel with your riding gear on, all of the staff are trained on which rooms to give you to make sure you can see your bike and they go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need.

And the FOOD! The Dunvegan Inn has really, really good food and its consistent. I have never had a bad meal there and I have eaten there a couple dozen times.

After our brunch, a number of us were outside having a smoke and chatting about nothing special when a gent asked if we were part of the bikers for vets Conga. I introduced myself and he said, I read your column in the Northern Horizon all the time. He asked whom we were raising

funds for and when I told him about the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder service dogs, a younger man, holding his son, who had been listening said to me As a Vet who suffers, thank you, what you are doing means so much. I damned near cried and turned to my fellow riders and said see, THIS is why I am doing this trip, because of people like him. As this father walked away hugging his son, my heart melted, this is what this trip is meant to do. To show people we ARE LISTENING and we the Canadian people ARE doing something about the needs of our heroes.

The feeling for me was much like the feeling of being on the Heroes Highway Ride or the National Memorial Ride I felt PROUD and if I had had any reservations about this ride that I am undertaking that man and his young son took them clean away.

I went back into the dining lounge, grabbed my gear and headed to the front desk to see Betty and to thank her again for being such a great supporter of the riding community and of our veterans she and I had our photo taken together and then it was out to the bikes for an even

We arrived back at Mighty Peace Harley-Davidson at about 3:30pm, and I counted the ballots up. The HOG Chapter won 25% of the days pledges, but they turned around and donated it back to the cause.

There are not enough words to express my gratitude to Les and all the staff of Mighty Peace Harley-Davidson and to the riders who said to hell with Mother Nature, we are riding any way.

Les, who was putting on his German helmet, said it best when he said, If our troops ran at the first sign of a little discomfort or rain, wed all be wearing German helmets or worse, this ride is

for a good cause and ride we will.

I like this mans attitude and it was an honor and a pleasure to have him join us for the ride.

I want to thank all of the riders who came out and hugged my Beaver (mascot) Rita, who rode with me today and helped create awareness for our veterans and their needs.

We owe them far more than a debt of gratitude we owe it to them to ensure our government takes care of them and if the government wont, then we the people of this magnificent country called Canada MUST.

Thanks you Grande Prairie and thank you to Betty, Val and all of the staff at the Dunvegan Inn & Suites YOU GUYS ROCK!

Today we raised $100 for each of our three charities: V.E.T.S, the Military Relay Ride and Paws Fur Thought the Long Walk to Sanity.

  • The weatherman, that faceless illusive person who sometimes tries to deliver the news we want to hear, was wrong again last Sunday, at least in parts of the lower mainland. It was supposed to be sunny, warm and 0% chance of precipitation.

The good folks at Deeleys must have an in with the powers that be, as the weather there was spectacular if you discount the little bit or precipitation they had early on.

Simultaneously, riders from all directions took on rain while riding there. Those who made it, and there were many, were rewarded for their efforts by hot sun, great music, very tasty pulled pork and a wide variety of very cool rides.

From scooters, vintage, u-builds, bobbers to full on custom. All were represented well. And why wouldnt they be, as this was a rare occasion when Shown Shine prizes include

  • something other than bragging rights. First prize was $1000 gift card from Deeleys!

Really enjoyed the music of bluesy music of The Blue Voodoo from White Rock. A couple

of stellar axe men grinding out the blues. For those interested, they can also perform with a full band. As is often the case, there were a lot of great bikes on hand that were not entered in the show. Got a few good photos

before my camera broke. Oh well. Guess I have to go camera shopping again.Exciting news only 46 sleeps til Sturgis. I have been resisting calling this the original Sturgis, as some people now refer to it, since Sturgis North came along. There is only one Sturgis, there has only ever been one and will never be another one so therefore it can be referred to simply as Sturgis. Any other substitute for this event is not worthy of the name, although it was a interesting marketing ploy. Surprising there hasnt been a lawsuit over tarnishing their good name.

In the infamous words of Kenny Rogers in the Gambler, You've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run, clearly the folks behind Sturgis North arent getting his concept.

In late breaking news, this event which has been cancelled at least a couple of times already for this year is trying again to gitr done. They may get more satisfaction from beating their collective heads against a wall, because no one could be stupid enough to give them their hard earned money.

It appears they are having difficulty securing any talent to perform they had a few old rock bands noted on their web site but in recent days the listing disappeared faster than the first years ticket sales money. Any vendor with a brain wouldnt chance it again. The bottom line is, give it up, you had your chance, its not gonna happen.

As for hockey, how disappointing were the

2 conference finals, the east more so than the west; A blow out just like the Canucks. I guess we can take solace in the fact there are 2 original 6 teams in the final.

  • The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You trade in your sense for an act. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask. There can't be any large-scale revolution until there's a personal revolution, on an individual level. It's got to happen inside first.

  • I have to say this is one of the most thought provoking assignments I have written for to date. In years past I have attended the Ride for Dad in Calgary and Edmonton. Both of these events have been celebrated yearly and are well established. My first experience was in Edmonton in June of 2009 where 1154 bikes took part. It was an overwhelming site to behold.

Although I grew up not having a relationship with my Father I have had the opportunity to have many men in my life that have shaped

who I am. I can't imagine not having their influences to help me along my journey through life.

I have a very dear friend who is in his 80's and was recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.

This gentleman lost his wife just over 10 yrs ago to Breast Cancer. They were inseparable and to honour her he proudly wears his pink

The message I learned this past weekend is that many men do NOT talk about it. Imagine my surprise when I learned that many men simply just don't bother to get tested. Much like talking about Breast Cancer was taboo not so long ago. I think it's important to talk about it and often.

Cancer in any form is NOT something to be

ashamed of....I believe there are strength in numbers! I believe the more we talk about it the less importance we give to feelings of shame, weakness, helplessness.

I had the opportunity to meet National Director of Operations, John McKinlay-Kay who was more than happy to give me some history on the Ride for Dad. He told me that Gary Jans a journalist who happens to be from Herbert, Sask just east of Swift Current was the man responsible for organizing the first Ride for Dad.

In 2000 Gary was working on an unrelated documentary in the Ottawa, Ontario area when he met a man by the name of Charlie Pester. Charlie had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was in declining health. Charlie told Gary that if he had known how easy it was to be tested he would have had a better chance at saving his own life.

Gary was so touched by Charlie's story that he was inspired to do something to bring awareness to how easy preventative testing was. Gary got together with the local Police Association Network and a memorial ride was organized. That was in 2000 and as the saying goes.....the rest is history.

I was honoured to be a part of The Swift Current Ride for Dad.

The day started out very wet but that didn't stop the 146 registered participants of which 92 were pre-registered!

Once inside participants were greeted by the more than 40 volunteers wearing bright orange shirts as well as members of the executive.

Coffee and Donuts were available for everyone to enjoy.

Items such as buffs, patches, t-shirts were

available for purchase.A Police escorted parade of bikes left the Casino and made their way through the streets of Swift Current to the delight of several onlookers despite the rainy weather.

Once back at the casino participants left in groups on the 315 km poker run travelling through Hodgeville, on to Hazenmore for lunch of Beef on a Bun and salads, with a stop in Cadillac before completing the run back at Big Sky Casino.

Once everyone returned prizes were given out for the top 3 Poker Hands with 4 of a kind being the top hand of the day and the lucky

  • Operation Veteran Thunder

On Thursday, June 6th, 2013 in Calgary, several local veteran motorcycle groups were invited to help usher in the Official Dedication and Opening of Poppy Plaza on

Memorial Drive being held that Saturday. This plaza or park commemorates citizens who have served to protect our freedom and security, and is part of the second phase of the Landscape of Memory project.

    On two day's notice,

available veteran and supporting members of the CVFR Calgary, 3 CAV, Veteran's Canada MC, UN/NATO and others answered the call to join a group ride organized by Portraits of Honour and Kin Canada.

Fifty-five motorcycles and riders came to Kensington Legion 264 to form up and be led by Calgary Police Services Officer T. J. Hooker (yes, that's his name) along Memorial drive to attend the dedication and show respect at the new memorial.

"Reserved Parking" was provided to the riders by closing off the right hand lane of Memorial Drive next to Poppy Plaza which enhanced the arrival of our "Veteran Thunder". There were many people smiling and waving at us as we came in and put our kickstands down. After all, living in Calgary, who doesn't love a parade?

  • Several military groups were already in attendance at the ceremonies in various types of uniform including the Calgary Highlanders, the King's Own Calgary Regiment and members of HMCS Tecumseh.

The camaraderie between these different groups reinforces the sense of community I

am slowly coming to know and enjoy. After the ceremonies, which included bagpipes, drums and horns from the Calgary Highlander's band (led by CVFR Calgary member Hawk) as well as speeches from dignitaries such as Mayor Nenshi, a group of us rode back to Legion 264 for a late lunch. There, between mouthfuls of great food and much laughter, we reinforced our bonds with each other.

As a new rider and supporting member of CVFR Calgary, I was so very honoured to be part of this group and share in the exhilaration of riding to this event in parade formation.

  • History of the Big Hearts Red Deer

Last year a group of friends and fellow riders got together and were having a BBQ and the topic came up of doing something for the community.

A lot of the larger charity drives are covered multiple times by different groups in our area, so deciding on one was not an easy decision. A few years ago the local hospital in Red Deer did some expanding. As our community is growing at a rapid rate, we finally narrowed it down to raising some money for the Red Deer Regional Hospital Foundation.

We met with Karen Oatway (Fund Development Officer) and she pointed a few wards that needed some equipment. The Neonatal (childrens) ward was chosen by our group this year with a $10,000.00 goal. Boyd and myself took on the responsibility of laying the event out, and the rest of our friends, and friends of friends have really pitched in to get the first year of this event going. As most of the poker run fundraisers are mostly stops at local taverns, we decided to change the venue and include some of the local businesses that are sponsoring the event.

So five local businesses were planned for the route with the sixth being the start and stop at Retro Cycle in Red Deer, in essence this is a 7 stop ride. We now have a large list of sponsors from our area, Saskatchewan, Northern Alberta, and USA. We have collected quite a few door prizes, silent auction items and have some trophy awards for long

distance riders Canada and the USA along with senior and junior riders. The poker run will be $20 a hand with $10 going directly to the Hospital foundation. Pot will be split 50/50 best and worst hand.

There will be one card marked in one of the 5 decks, and the lucky person that draws that card will win a free Dyno Tune for a fuel injected bike at Retro Cycle. Players will have to visit each stop to draw cards, and while you are there, check out the local businesses and see what they have to offer.

Players will also be given a numbered poker chip for each hand purchased, so dont lose them as numbers will be drawn randomly for door prizes ( and there is a lot of items to give away).

The ride will start and end at the Retro Cycle lot registration starting at 9:00 11:00AM, with groups leaving to Gords Smoke Shop in Red Deer south (stop 1), then to Alberta Motorcycle Training in Springbrook (stop2), Innisfail Truck Ranch (stop 3), Monkey Top in Bentley (stop 4), Roses Front Room in Blackfalds (stop 5) then back to Retro Cycle for final door prizes and announce poker run winners.

There will be a bbq trailer running all day graciously donated by Canyon Well Service with all proceeds going back to the Hospital Foundation.

The silent auction items will be displayed all

  • New statistics are in!First we would like to thank Councillor, and mayoral candidate, Kerry Diotte for his assistance in obtaining the new statistics. We would also like to thank Joe Rodgers, Executive Director of the Edmonton Police Commission for answering our request through Councillor Diotte and providing the updated statistics directly to us.

So what have we learned? M.O.D.E.L. and the Edmonton based motorcycle community is having great success with regards to these tickets. After three years, the stats are still not in favor of the City of Edmonton and the EPS.

We have been provided the stats up to May 2013 in an overall fashion. It's more than telling of the failure and waste of time, tax dollars and resources that this bylaw represents.

As you can see, the City of Edmonton has a total success rate of 21.3% in court. The number quashed to date is 32.5%. going with the trend of our success in court, one could justifiably state that the tickets that were paid voluntarily would follow the same trend making the quashed rate higher and lowering the conviction rate.

It needs to be noted that the reason there is a 33.3% rate of tickets paid is because in the first year, before M.O.D.E.L. had a chance to solidify a defense and become known as an advocacy group in Edmonton, our community simply paid. Another reason for tickets being paid is some people cant afford to take the time off work to fight the ticket. To anyone in that position, please still talk to us first as someone can defend your ticket on your behalf and if our resources are available, that is an option for you.

Now lets look at the same tickets broken down by idle and above idle. Here we see the majority of the tickets fall in the above idle category. There still is the question of if this is how that individual actually rides their motorcycle. The above idle test has always been scrutinized because the individual is basically pulled in and asked to break the law and be issued a ticket.

That is in our opinion, textbook entrapment. Just because the motorcycle may exceed 96db under this test, in no way means that is how it is handled on the streets. With that said, it is clear the majority of tickets issued for failing the above idle test are

thrown out. That percentage is a lot closer in the at idle category where we will need to look into closer to adjust where necessary to ensure better success there.

  • A while back I submitted my business (Steel Tattoos & Body Paint)to the Busted Knuckles Chronicles to be included as an advertiser in the publication. I waited for the ad to be reviewed and one day I got a call from Belt Drive Betty...Renee.

Long story short, we discussed my business and my ad and then Renee made a very flattering comment to me. She told me about her mascot, Road Trip Rita, and said if anyone could bring her to life it would be me. I agreed to make a cast aluminium sculpture for her of her beaver...heh heh, ya there is a lot of room for jokes here for sure.

Here is the story of bringing Road Trip Rita to life.

All casting projects start out by making a master. This can be sculpted from whatever. Most artists use clay or wax for their original design. It took about 30 seconds to realize these items wouldn't work for this project.

The base for this project was made from heavy cardboard that was dipped in hot wax. The log lettering was made from twigs from our lilac tree in my backyard. The bike was constructed from plywood, drinking straws, Bondo and spot filler and a whole lot of miscellaneous items from my goody drawer. Take a look at the gas tank. Does it look like a familiar item? With a little Bondo an old computer mouse becomes a slick gas tank!!!

Rita was originally a wire armature that was covered in a self hardening clay. She was then dipped in hot wax and then her details were added afterwards from wax.

  • Once the master models are made, it is time to make the rubber molds off of them. The rubber molds are what I use to make the wax models that go through the rest of the casting process to make her aluminium. The rubber mold makes an exact duplicate of what I have sculpted. Hot was is poured into the molds to give me what is called a second wax. In total there were 7 castings produced to make this project. After the waxes are poured and cleaned up, they get the sprues

attached that allow the molten metal to be poured into the next mold.

The next step is to cover each wax with the first 3 coats of investment by hand. These first coats are applied by hand to ensure every part is covered completely as this is the layer that captures all the detail from the wax pattern. The next step is to then make mold boxes and completely cover the models in a solid block of high temp refractory mix. These molds are turned upside down and

loaded into the burn out oven. The sprue opening is placed at the bottom so as the molds are baked and cured over 2 days, all the wax inside, melts out and leaves a negative cavity inside the mold of what the pattern was. These molds are slowly brought up to 950 degrees over 2 days.

After the burn out process the next step is to pour the metal into the molds. The molds are removed from the oven, turned over and liquid aluminium is poured into them. And

After a couple of hours, the metal is cool enough to open the molds. A hammer and some elbow grease is what is used to crack open the investment from the castings. You now have your raw castings ready for finishing.

  • this project. It was an honour and a privilege. Paul, I hope I did justice to your drawing skills.

I hope Rita is a great ambassador to Renee for her first outing on the military conga across Canada. If she brings a smile to a soldiers face, and even more so, saves a life....then the effort and time is the biggest payoff I can hope for. I am a huge supporter of this ride. I know all to well what it stands for. I have 2 bullet holes in me, shrapnel scars and knife wounds. I dont scream any-more, but I still dream.

Ride long and hard Renee and Rita.

P.S. The fun part now. Many people will pet Bettys beaver. Many people will see Bettys beaver. Paul got to draw Bettys beaver. But I got to build Bettys beaver. I know Bettys beaver inside and out....too frigging cool.

  • The CMDRA Classes

    Super Street

    By: Liane Langlois

Super Street is part of the heads up class of racing. This class showcases street bikes with limited modifications

and was created as a safe alternative to illegal street racing.

Clayton Potter races in two classes, Super Street being one of them. He joined the CDMRA in 2008 after going out to watch some races and got hooked. Potter finds Super Street very competitive and has had quite a bit of success.

In 2011 he managed to run 4 of the 6 races, winning 3 of them and placing as runner up in the other with a second place finish overall. That year he set the ET and MPH records as well. Last season Potter was leading the points until the finals in Edmonton where he advised my bike decided it was time to give me some electrical problems, I couldnt solve them and lost in the second round. This resulted in another second place finish overall. Barring any weird issues, Potter should be a force to be reckon with in 2013.

It costs $100 to run in this class per race, not including expenses and gate fees for parts and the crew. Their plates are designated

with S/S and reserved for all makes of street legal with self-starting motorcycle engines only.

There are 8 requirements and specifications that Top Fuel bikes must adhere to in order to race; engine, drive train, suspension & brakes, frame, wheels & tires, body, electrical, and rider.

The engine must by a stock-type engine designed and manufactured for production motorcycle use. There is an unlimited displacement and carburetors, turbochargers, fuel injectors and supercharges may be used in any combination. Nitrous bottles must be stamped with DOT-1800 rating and be securely mounted on the inside perimeter of the frame. These bikes run on gasoline, alcohol and nitrous only where nitromethane is prohibited.

There are three rules for the drive train; chain guards, clutch guard and transmission. Chain and/or belt guards are mandatory meaning they must extend from the center line of the rear axle covering the full length of the exposed swing arm. Lock clutches of any

kind are strictly prohibited. Clutch must be lever activated by the riders hand. The bike must be ridden back up the return road under its own power. Any transmission can be used other than automatic.

The third rule applies to suspension and brakes. Front and rear hydraulic type brakes are mandatory. Minimum rotor size is a 7 inch diameter by 3/16 inch thickness. The handlebars must be at least 20 inches overall with grips removed. The snap back throttle return is mandatory. Any shifter or brake pedal that can be operated with the foot on the peg will be permitted. Air or electric shifters are permitted if the air shift bottles are stamped with DOT-1800 rating and securely mounted.

    Aftermarket suspension is permitted but

  • wheelie bars are prohibited. Front suspension minimum fork diameter of 32 mm with a minimum travel of 1 inch. A steering damper strongly recommended and mandatory for bikes running 150 mph or more.

There must be a 2 inch minimum ground clearance when traditional under motor exhaust is used but 3 inches when a sidewinder style exhaust is used. Fork straps will be allowed for lowering the front suspension.

With respect to the frame, stock OEM frames are allowed and the VIN must be displayed in the original location. Wheelbase is directly related to rider weight. A weigh in will take place during tech at the start of every weekend event. Rider weight will include all racing gear.

Please see the rulebook on the CMDRA website for the complete table regarding rider weight and added wheelbase over stock. The Maximum permissible wheelbase is 70 inches for all entrants. Ballasts of any kid is

    prohibited.

Front wheel is a minimum diameter 16 inches with a maximum diameter of 21 inches. The rear wheel must have a minimum diameter of 15 inches with a maximum of 18 inches. DOT motorcycle street tires must be used with 2/32 tread on front and rear. Slicks are prohibited. Stock fuel tanks are mandatory.

All main body parts, including the tail sections, must have stock appearance and shape. Extended tail and fairings are permitted. The seat should be stock OEM or seat with a step to prevent rider from sliding backwards.Any ignition system is permitted and the bike must be equipped with a positive ignition cut-off attached to the rider with a lanyard of rawhide, wire, etc. Functional charging systems with functional head and tail lights are required and must be on during all events.

All bikes must be self-started or external electric starter where roller or push starts

prohibited. Traction control, wheelie control and rate of acceleration devices are strictly prohibited and the mandatory penalty is forfeiture of all points earned up to that point of the race season. Entrants are limited to passive-only data recording and may not use that data generated by the data recorder system to affect or control any function of the motorcycle.

The rider must wear leather boots or shoes that cover the ankles and full finger semi or full gauntlet leather gloves with double armor reinforcement in the palm and finger/knuckle area on the hands. Chest protectors are mandatory and must meet SFI 46.1 specifications. Race school is mandatory for first time racers.

So there you have it, Super Street in a nutshell. For a more complete list of rules and regulations, please visit www.cmdra.com. Before we get started on this next class, I would like to take this opportunity to wish Devin Pelrine a speedy recovery.

The CMDRA was in Grand Bend, Ontario this past weekend and on Friday night, during a

test and tune ride, Devin came off his Top Fuel bike at the end of the track. He has suffered some serious but not life threatening injuries to his back and neck.

He continues to remain in hospital in London.

Our thoughts are with all the Pelrines during this time and look forward to when Devin can return to the track.

Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly,

    may alight upon you.

  • Wardlow AB: This past weekend marked the 65th Annual Piston Run, hosted by the Greater Vancouver Motorcycle Club in the coastal mountains just outside of Chilliwack BC . The long heritage of this event guaranteed a stellar event to kick off as the first round of World Enduro Canadas Royal Distributing Canadian Cross Country Championship (CXCC).

The Piston Run story begins on Friday for Vernon, BCs Victoria Hett, when she travelled to Sacramento, California to take on Geico EnduroCross. Starting the day off well, Victoria and Valley MotoSports Husaberg TE 250 went to the heat races with the fastest lap times in the ladies class. Despite a

great start due to her first gate pick, she crashed heavily in a tire section and was pinned beneath her bike, and out of position to move into the night show. Her speed was dampened in her last chance qualifier, and she again missed advancing to the main, by a tire width.

A true competitor, Victoria, packed up and headed north, arriving in the Piston Run pits

at 6 a.m. after travelling 1400 km during the night. It became obvious that the tough luck from Sacramento was a huge motivator, as Victoria led from the start and never looked back, taking the top step of the Intermediate class podium.

In the Pro class, Kitimat BCs Ben Rego, Airdrie ABs Shane Cuthbertson, and HillCrest Mines ABs Ryan Linderman lined up on the first row of the 24 rider start. After a stellar start, first year Pro, Ryan Linderman succumbed to pressures of the stacked Pro class and finished in 13th position without any drama or crashes. It is an admirable finish for Ryan, as he kept it on two wheels in an environment that hes never raced before. Hell build on this, stated Lee Fryberger, CGRT team manager. Ben and Shane rounded the first lap inside the top five and jockeying positions to finally finish 4th and 5th respectively.

CGRTs next event is this next weekend at the Porcupine Hills

Hare Scrambles, Round 2 of the CXCC. Follow us on facebook at Corner Grass Racing Team, www.cornergrass.com and twitter, @HETT-Racing, @cgrt20, @cgrt77 and @cgrt96.

  • Szoke Prefaces the CSBK Weekend with a Win

Jordan Szoke prefaces the very first Mopar Canadian Superbike National Championship weekend with a win at Kelso Conservation Area in a very different discipline.

I use mountain bike racing as a way to train for roadracing. says Szoke I spend countless hours on my bicycle to remain competitive on my superbike, it just seemed natural to transition my competitive nature from just training on my bicycle to racing it.

The Weekly Kelso Mountian Bike Race Series is held at the Kelso Conservation Area, with a full calendar hosting 14 races plus a finale event at the end of the season. The series has welcomed many professional O-Cup and Canada Cup racers offering a good training ground with some of the best climbs that Southern Ontario has to offer.

It was an interesting race, it wasnt your typical head down, heart thumper. It was more of a mental game. Which, of course, is right up my alley. smiles Szoke.

Jordan plans to continue to represent Bicycle Works in the Kelso series and schedule allowing, challenge the very best in a few Ontario Cup Series Races.

My supporter, Bicycle Works, is the title sponsor for the series this season, I am really gunning to bring the #1 plate back to the shop this year.

Shannonville Motorsport 1.5 mile Pro Track located just east of Belleville Ontario Canada will be hosting the Canadian National season opener June 7-9. For ticket information visit: www.csbk.ca

  • So where do we let freedom end. SGI, the local insurance provider in Saskatchewan, has proposed installing tracking devises on volunteer motorcycles so that they can compile data on rider habits in order that they can revamp

our current rates. You see SGI does not believe the data collected by the hundreds of insurance companies across North America, data collected from millions of miles, millions of customers is valid.

When I was preparing to present to SGI at their rate review hears I sought out insurance rates from a wide variety of insurance companies.

They ask me a variety of questions using the answers I gave them to slot me into a risk category basing my insurance on that. Having over twenty-five years driving experience and no accidents or tickets gives a great rate. But there are more. Having a 1A airbrake endorsement to drive 18-wheelers lowers it more. Having some university education lowers my risk even more as well as having an office job, wife and kids. Even belonging to a riding group meant that I am a lower risk of being involved in an accident.

However in Saskatchewan SGI feel that I am the same risk of being in an accident as my

unemployed alcoholic single brother who has several DUI's.

The initial information given on the tracking devise seemed promising even though intrusive. I don't get to ride my bike as nearly as much as I like, typically only logging on local miles.

My downfall is I speed on the highway. I could follow the law for a year if it meant lower insurance rates but soon SGI showed their true colors. Instead of a one time thing or a fractional sampling of the riding public SGI goal is to install these devises on all bikes, all the time. A little computer constantly

uploading our speed, location, braking, g-forces in curves to Big Brother in the sky to keep us in line.

SGI has admitted that they hope to refine the technology even farther to install them on all vehicles in the province.

While the tracing devises may give a snap shot they don't fully explain all situations and is ripe for abuse by the insurance company. It

bad Uncle Monkey & SK EventsThe Busted Knuckle Chronicles June 20, 2013 Page 40

    Continued on Next Page

  • is no stretch of imagination to see SGI deny accident claims because the black box doesn't show we braked when in reality we used counter steering or denying a claim because had we not sped ten minutes before we would not have been in the intersection when the other car ran the red light.

Don't think it will happen? Think again. I have personally talked and seen the reports from truck drivers who have had that exact thing happen to them.

So do we sacrifice our freedom to save money? Roll the dice that big business will not abuse the information they collect. Hope that they will not sell that information to the highest bidder.

Everyday our population give away more and more rights in the name of protection. Unfortunately that protection is for big business and government.

RAGE STATUS UPDATEThe 2013 SSRP Hearing Decision Results

This is the actual results of the Plan for motorcycles only!!

The SRRP RECOMMENDS the MC rate increase remain clawed back from 70% to 15 % max for the Aug. implementation date.

The SRRP SUGGESTS NOT RECOMMENDS, that the rate rebalancing for Motorcycles be deferred until the results of the Motorcycle Review Committee are out, and implemented, and the impact of those initiatives understood.

The SRRP'S Recommends the Muiti-year rate increase proposed in SGI's Rate Package be limited to 2013 ONLY...and that SGI be required to file for each additional year, in the year the Increase is proposed for.

THAT MULTI-YEAR rate increase is still Looming....BE AWARE of that!

What this all means:The 1.03% rate increase and the 1.23%

surcharge are recommended by the SRRP for Aug. 2013 for ALL VEHICLES.

The Rate Rebalancing for motorcycles which could take the MC rate as high as 15% MAX, is what the SRRP is "Suggested" to be deferred until the MC Review Panel Decisions and Results have been implemented and the affect known.

The ongoing proposed MC Rate increases beyond the 2013 Rate Increase, are NOT Recommended.

Also:The SRRP's mandate is very narrow and although the SRRP did take all of the evidence including the R.A.G.E. evidence (The RAGE COUNTER PROPOSAL) into account, the scope of the mandate of the SRRP is too narrow for them to make recommendation based on some of the evidence provided such as the SDR portion of the the R.A.G.E. Package and the reclassification proposal.

  • As a result SRRP'S is asking the Provincial Government to widen the scope of what the SRRP'S can consider and make recommendations on. Having said that the SRRP'S is looking for support for widening the scope of the SRRP to include considering and making recommendations in the future based on evidence such as R.A.G.E. presented.

Note:The SRRP'S does not have APROVAL Power, the SRRP'S is limited to RECOMMENDING, or NOT RECOMMENDING or Suggesting.

Once the SRRP has made their decisions or recommendation public, the Proposal and the SRRP Decision is then handed to the Premier, Cabinet and Caucus to either Approve or Deny!! Therefore the final decision is now is in the hands of the Provincial Government.

R.A.G.E. ACTION:R.A.G.E. Members must IMMEDIATELY contact the Premiers Office, the Minister for SGI and Crown Investments Corp, and their individual MLAS!!

Demand the Government ACCEPT the SRRP'S recommendation to defer the RATE Rebalance INCREASE until the MC Review Committee has made theirs final recommendation AND the recommendations are implemented and the results and affect are known!!!

This is another round PEOPLE....it is another letter, phone call, e-mail campaign that IS CRITICAL to our success. I told everybody from the beginning....this is going to be a l-o-n-g process....we must stay in it for the long

haul in order to be successful. PHONE - EMAIL LETTERS -PETITION again.

We are wining little by little bit by bit, BUT, we need folks to RALLY AGAIN...BE HEARD....BE THAT LOUD VOICE....these are your elected members in the Legislature....YOUR ELECTED Premier....LET HIM KNOW WHAT TO DO.....LET HIM HEAR LOUD and CLEAR!!!!

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the

answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place.
