    CELEBRATIONS

It has been a month of weddings for us atUCC. On October 9th Becky Robinsonmarried Charlie Cooke and Cale Savagemarried Allison Lura. On October 23rd MaryJane Kolar and Glenn Hasluska had theirwedding complete with bagpiper!

On the 16th the Kutz-Marks had our family

wedding to celebrate. First, let me say thankyou to all of you at University Christian Churchhere who have so generously andwarmheartedly embraced our family-- especially these last few monthswith our daughter, Marie, gettingmarried. The wonderful showerhosted by the Seekers Class andattended by so many of you trulyoverwhelmed us. We shall alwaysbe grateful.

The wedding was October 16 inHillsborough, North Carolina and itwas grand. As we anticipated, therewas a bittersweetness as wewatched our Marie vow to faithfullylive out her wedding covenant withSean. It is not that we have any question aboutwhether or not this is a good relationship forthem both. It clearly is. But as many of youknow first-hand, it is that letting go of a primaryrelationship with a precious daughter and

allowing Sean and Marie the space that theyneed to grow together as a couple.

The wedding was a joyous occasion. There arefew times in life where you reach that pinnacleof celebration. The Gospel of John records inthe second chapter that immediately aftercalling his disciples Jesus went to a wedding in

Cana of Galilee. When they ran out of wineJesus first miracle was transforming 150gallons of water into wine fine wine, that thecelebrating might continue.

I suspect that that wedding -- like the ones weat UCC have just celebrated -- was a rare andwonderful opportunity for close friends and

extended family members from all over to meeteach other. It was as if all the important peoplefrom the groom's side and all theimportant people from the bride'sside in this set apart time had theunique opportunity to get to knoweach other, and thereby tounderstand the inner world of bothbride and groom so much betterWe noted at the time that Sean andMarie might have just gone to a

magistrate and had a quiet, civiceremony. But if they had, thesetwo universes would never haveco-mingled in such a blessed way.

As we approach the officiaThanksgiving celebration of

November, may you be finding reasons forgiving thanks for what God has been doing inyour life, too. Pastor Chuck
