The Campaign for
Baptist Student Ministry
at
University of North Texas
HISTORY
For generations Texas Baptists have ministered to college and university students
BSM introduced thousands of students to Christ and equipped them to be leaders “for the harvest” {Matthew 9:37, Luke 10:2}
Churches and ministries around the world are strengthened by the young men and women whose lives are transformed by Christ through the BSM at UNT
HISTORY EARLY BEGINNINGS
BSM at UNT began over 70 years ago.
The current 7,200 square-foot Baptist Student Center was built over 50 years ago.
The campus enrollment consisted then of 6,500 students.
The University has grown to surround the current facility and has over 37,000 students which includes student from over 120 countries.
The University is aspiring to become a Tier one University.
HISTORY MISSION
Baptist Student Ministry exists to engage college students with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to
develop Christian leaders through:
Evangelism
Missions
Churchmanship
Bible Study/Discipleship
Worship
HISTORY OPPORTUNITIES
In today’s student culture, relationships are the priority. The ministry provides a platform for Christ honoring relationships to be established and cultivated.
The students are invited to investigate the teachings of Jesus and to develop a relationship with Him.
Many students have been ministered to by the BSM over the years. Here are some estimates:
Well over 1,000 students were trained in leadership.
Hundreds of students have served or are serving in ministry around the world.
Hundreds of married couples proudly tell the story of meeting their spouse at the BSM.
Over 100,000 students have passed through the ministry of the BSM at UNT.
Thousands of International students have heard the Gospel message of Jesus.
Over 2,000 students have served in mission activities. These students have touched the lives of over 500,000 people around the world.
HISTORY OPPORTUNITIES (concluded)
BSM creates a vibrant experience,
and will continue to provide excellent ministry
opportunities for the students it serves.
No other ministry allows us to so directly influence the
future of the family, the church, business leaders, and
government leaders than Baptist Student Ministry.
THE VISION…
BSM at UNT ministers to 6 times the number of students as when building opened in April 1960.
Building is tired and worn beyond repair – based on architectural recommendations.
Location, location…. centrally on campus, across from Student Union Building, adjacent from commuter bus stop.
High-visibility location, coupled with a new facility, will provide a strong Christian presence to UNT students for generations.
GOOD STEWARDS
To be good stewards of this prime location, it is
imperative that a new building that is
comparable to other University buildings be
constructed – something for which the
University community, the Denton community,
and Texas Baptists can be proud.
An endowment from which the income will be
used to operate the building is essential. The
endowment corpus will remain intact with only
the income being used for building operations.
AUTHORITY FOR
CONDUCTING CAMPAIGN
Long-range planning by a committee of
volunteers resulted in a strategy and an exciting
approach to meeting the needs of the Baptist
Student Ministry at the University of North
Texas.
The Touching Tomorrow’s Leaders, Today
Campaign for the BSM was approved by the
Center for Collegiate Ministry of The Baptist
General Convention of Texas.
CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES
The Touching Tomorrow’s Leaders, Today
Campaign Plan is a strategy to assist the BSM
at UNT to accomplish its mission.
The Touching Tomorrow’s Leaders, Today Campaign
goal is $2,550,000 to be raised in three-year
commitments to fund the following priorities:
A New 9,600 square-foot Building $2,050,000
Endowment for New Building Operations
$500,000
A New 9,600 square-foot Building $2,050,000
The new building
is patterned
after buildings
recently completed at other university campuses in
Texas and will be compatible with the architecture
of the newer structures on the UNT Campus.
The facility will meet the needs of the ministry with a large gathering room, meeting rooms, a recreation area, media capabilities, and outdoor seating area. The building will be energy efficient and will make future operational costs more affordable.
A New 9,600 square-foot Building $2,050,000
The additional space and a more efficient floor plan will provide the BSM room to grow. The proposed building will accommodate 400+ students at one time for weekly events. A new facility will allow the BSM to expand its ministry to International students, fraternity/sororities, resident hall students, commuters, and athletes. In addition the building project will include better technology for training and small group gatherings.
TOUCHING TOMORROW’S LEADERS, TODAY
Endowment to Fund Operation of the Building $500,000
This $500,000 endowment will produce the income to fund the operation of the New Building. Endowment is the gift that gives forever. The corpus remains intact while only the income is used.
