Collect V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit.

Let us pray. O God, who hast prepared for them that love thee such good things as pass man’s understanding: pour into our hearts such love to-ward thee; that we, loving thee in all things and above all things, may obtain thy promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Introit Dominus fortitudo Psalm 28:8, 9, 1

The Lord is the strength of his people, and a stronghold of salvation to his Anointed One: O Lord, save thine own people, and give thy blessing unto thine inheritance;

O feed them also, and set them up for ever. (Ps.) Unto thee will I cry, O Lord; my God, be not silent unto me:

lest, if thou make as though thou hearest not, I become like them that go down into the pit. (Bow) Glory be to the Father… (Rise) As it was in the beginning… The Lord is the strength…

Gradual Convertere Psalm 90:13,1 Turn thee again, O Lord, at the last: and be gracious unto thy servants.

Lord, thou hast been our refuge: from one generation to another.

The Holy Gospel: St. Matthew 13:24-43 V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit.

V. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew. R. Glory be to thee, O Lord.

At that time, Jesus put another parable before the crowds, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared also. “And the servants of the householder came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then has it weeds?' “He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ “The servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ “But he said, ‘No; lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’” Another parable he put before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” He told them another parable. “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till it was all leavened.” All this Jesus said to the crowds in parables; indeed he said nothing to them without a parable. This was to fulfill what was spo-ken by the prophet: “I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.” Then he left the crowds and went into the house. And his disciples came to him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds of the field.” He answered, “He who sows the good seed is the Son of man; the field is the world, and the good seed means the sons of the kingdom; the weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at the close of the age. The Son of man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all evildoers, and throw them into the furnace of fire, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.” V. The Gospel of the Lord. R. Praise be to thee, O Christ.

Alleluia In te, Domine, speravi Psalm 31:1, 2 Alleluia. Alleluia.

In thee, O Lord, have I put my trust, let me never be put to confusion: Deliver me in thy righteousness; bow down thine ear to me, make haste to deliver me.

Alleluia.

The Epistle: Romans 8:26-27 Brethren, the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. V. The Word of the Lord. R. Thanks be to God.

Communion of the Faithful

An Act of Spiritual Communion for those who cannot now receive Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament

My Jesus, I believe that thou art truly present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love thee above all things, and I desire to receive thee into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive thee sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace thee as if thou wert already there and unite myself wholly to thee. Never permit me to be separated from thee. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving (Almighty and everliving God…)

Postcommunion Prayer O Lord, who hast satisfied us with thy heavenly bounties: grant that we may be cleansed from all our secret faults, and delivered from all the crafts and assaults of our enemies; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessing & Dismissal

Communion Anthem: Jesu, the Very Thought of Thee Gerald Near (b. 1942)

Jesu! the very thought is sweet! In that dear name all heart-joys meet;

But sweeter than the honey far the glimpses of his presence are.

No word is sung more sweet than this: No name is heard more full of bliss:

No thought brings sweeter comfort nigh, than Jesus, Son of God most high.

Jesu! the hope of souls forlorn! How good to them for sin that mourn!

To them that seek thee, O how kind! But what art thou to them that find?

Jesu, thou sweetness, pure and blest, truth’s fountain, Light of souls distrest,

Surpassing all that heart requires, exceeding all that soul desires!

No tongue of mortal can express, no letters write its blessedness:

Alone who hath thee in his heart knows, love of Jesus, what thou art. Amen.
