Congratulations, Fr. Ken! This Sunday, Fr. Ken Sicard, O.P., our faithful Do-minican weekend assistant, celebrates the 30th anni-versary of his priestly ordination. We are blessed by Fr. Ken’s generous sharing of faith, love and minis-try. Personally, I have known Fr. Ken for over 30 years, first meeting him through a friend of mine who was his classmate in the Dominicans. I was present for Fr. Ken’s diaconate ordination. (I couldn’t attend his priesthood ordination due to a wedding commit-ment at Saint Thomas More, 30 years ago!) When I was given responsibility for two of the three parishes of North Attleboro in 2006, after hiring Sister Kathee, the second phone call I made was to Fr. Ken at Provi-dence College seeking his help on the weekends. The rest is history! Fr. Ken has been a part of “the team” since then and has truly enhanced my life with his friendship, wisdom, generosity, and priestly care – not to mention many a fine meal prepared by his tal-ented hands! Ken, as you mark this important milestone, may you
know many blessings! May God’s Spirit continue to inspire you, uphold you, guide you, and challenge you. Ad multos annos!

FUNDRAISER FOR A ST. THOMAS MORE
FAMILY
Beth Fournier and her parents, Donna and Tony, are active members of St. Thomas More parish. Beth’s wheelchair accessible van, which is essential to get her to her many doctors appointments from Boston to
Dartmouth, needs to be replaced. The family has set up a GoFundMe page to buy a new van and is near-ing their goal. If you are able to help in any way,
please go to https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-beth039s-family-get-a-new-van, read Beth’s story and make a donation. Donations will also be accept-
ed at the Office at St. Thomas More. Checks should be made out to Donna Fournier.
7TH SUNDAY OF EASTER MAY 24, 2020
From Fr. Costa…
Church Re-Opening
As you certainly have heard, Governor Baker has given the “ok” to return to our churches. Bishop da Cunha has designated next weekend, May 30/31, the Feast of Pentecost, for the reopening in our Diocese. As the Bishop points out in his letter announcing this reopening, “It goes without saying, that the governor is not man-dating the opening of our churches, but rather declaring that we can resume public worship as long as the nec-essary safety measures are observed.” As of this writing (Wednesday, May 20), we have not received specific guidelines from the Bishop concerning the “how to’s.” There must be some direction from on high; we can’t just “do our own thing.” We do know that we will be limited to 40% occupancy of our church buildings and will need some sort of system to help safely comply with this mandate. We are currently working on devising some way to make this possible. In discussion with our faithful and generous Dominican weekend assistants, we are also considering adding weekend Masses to help accommodate our parishioners. Bishop da Cunha has also reminded us: “Considering that many people, because of age or a medical condi-tion, are advised not to come to church during this outbreak, or may prefer to stay home because of fear of be-coming infected, the dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass remains in effect until further notice.” We will continue to broadcast our Sunday Mass on our parish websites and the Somerset/Swansea Catholic Com-munity Facebook page. Any and all directives will be posted on our website pages and on our Facebook page.
First Communion & Confirmation Celebrations
Our three First Communion celebrations (one in each church) and the two Confirmation celebrations (both at Saint Thomas More) continue to be on hold. One of our major concerns is the 40% occupancy limitation. We are working on alternate plans as we await more guidelines from the Diocese. Families will be notified via e-mail and information will be posted on our websites and Facebook page as soon as we are able. Your contin-ued patience is very much appreciated. _________________________________________________________________________________________
Your Help is Needed!
Very quietly, our three Saint Vincent de Paul conferences have been tending to the needs of our parishioners and townspeople during these weeks of pandemic shut-down. I am very appreciative of the care and attention our Vincentians continue to share, making sure our needy parishioners are looked after. Recently, it was brought to my attention that the Sacred Heart/Holy Name Food Pantry which operates in Fall River and is directed by Cyndi Gamache, one of our parishioners, is in dire need of three food items: pasta, spa-ghetti sauce, and cereal. The SH/HN Food Pantry was begun by Fr. Ray Cambra at Sacred Heart Parish, Fall River, and when the parish closed, was moved to Saint Bernadette Parish. It is still housed in that building where this group does a tremendous job serving a very needy population from that end of Fall River.
We are certainly blessed here in Somerset/Swansea. Even in these days of pandemic lockdown, can we share our blessings with those who really need our help? To that end, we are collecting boxes of pasta, jars of sauce, and boxes of cereal. We will also accept monetary donations for the food pantry. You may bring your items
by the parish office and leave them at the front door in the boxes so marked. Donations may be dropped off or mailed in to the office. Please make checks out to whichever parish you belong. These will be tallied and sent as one donation check. Every donation matters. May God bless your generosity!
