THE CAUSE AND CURE OF DISEASE

DISEASE is, as the name indicates, dis-ease, and means an absence of ease. Pathologically speakingaccording to one of the denitions of the Centry Dictionary, disease is a !de"iation from the healthor normal condition of any of the fnctions or tisses of the body,! and therefore it is necessary toascertain #hat the normal condition of the body is before #e may kno# #hen it is in a diseased orabnormal condition, and to kno# this #e mst learn ho# the body is bilded.

Starting #ith its lo#est aspect #e nd that the physical body is made p of a great nmber of littleindi"idal li"es #hich the modern physicist calls atoms. $hese atoms grop and form #hat is calledmolecles. A nmber of these molecles groped together form a comple% indi"idal life #hich iscalled a cell and the groping together of a nmber of cells forms an organ, tisse, mscle, etc., andcombination of the necessary mscles, tisses, organs, bones and &ids, forms a mass or body #hichas a common rate of "ibration and a shape.

Did yo e"er stop to think #hy yor physical body holds its form' (hy shold not yor arm &y o) inspace in one direction #hile a foot goes in another direction' It is becase there is a dominant mass"ibration #hich holds together the di)erent portions of the body responding to it. $he earth is heldtogether by the la# of gra"itation* there is a mass tone #hich holds its component parts together asone, and so long as that "ibratory force contines to play pon this planet there can ne"er be adisintegration of it. In the same #ay each person has his o#n personal la# of gra"itation or mass

"ibration #hich holds all the parts of his body together.

$his magnetic force, personal la# of gra"itation or mass "ibration of the body, is the "ibration of theob+ecti"e mind #hich ensols it. Its normal color shold be green, bt the de"elopment of the mandetermines the color at any time in his e"oltion* and in the earlier stages of his de"elopment, #henhis desires and passions are dominant, his "ibrations drop lo#er than the green and he becomes adirty bro#n.

$he ob+ecti"e mind gi"es the physical body its shape, and it is becase of the presence of the mind the body that the particles, #hich come from all sorces to make p the magnetic sphere, gropthemsel"es into the form of the physical man. o ha"e placed a horse-shoe magnet o"er a antityof steel lings and ha"e seen them rsh together and cro#d themsel"es arond the magnet, taking

form. $he atoms, like the steel lings, are dra#n to the magnet mind and thogh they come fromearth, air, food and #ater they are held together in the position they occpy by the mass "ibration othe ob+ecti"e mind.

(hile there is a mass "ibration, still each organ has an indi"idal modication of this "ibration, other#ise it cold not be an organ separate and distinct from the rest of the body* and #hile eachorgan responds as it #ere to the dominant tone it also has its sb-tone. In the li"er, for e%ample, theis the orange life force #hich has dra#n together all the particles #hich compose that organ. $heblood passing throgh the li"er has a tendency to modify the orange "ibrations #ith its o#n, #hich ired. $he dominant note of the ob+ecti"e mind, #hich is green, holds together this mass of red andorange "ibration becase it is higher and therefore stronger, and yo ha"e the three colors blendedtogether in a mass of mi%ed "ibrations #hich make bro#n. $he color of the li"er seen sb+ecti"ely

looks "ery mch as it does ob+ecti"ely.

(hen the "ibration of the ob+ecti"e mind is the controlling or dominant "ibration of all the organs ofthe physical body then it is in a normal or healthy condition. Disease is the lo#ering, belo# thenormal, of the "ibrations of a part or of all the body - e%cept in cases of disrption or misplacement obones or other parts of the body. or illstration #e #ill take the li"er again, #hich has its o#nseparate organic, comple% e%istence by reason of its constrction. Its cells are held together by theorange organic "ibration, yet these "ibrations are modied and controlled by the higher mass"ibration of the ob+ecti"e mind* no# sppose the li"er instead of responding to the higher mass"ibrations, gradally begins to lose them and takes a lo#er rate of "ibration, then yo ha"e #hat iscalled a torpid li"er.

Diseases manifest in one of t#o general #ays. irst, #here the "ibration of an organ is itself lo#eredand it manifests disharmony #ithin itself* and second, #here the "ibration of an organ is lo#ered anit becomes demagneti/ed s0ciently to permit foreign atoms to enter and set p an independentaction. $he rst condition, if it be not corrected, #ill case disintegration or disrption of the entireorgan* the second condition reslts in great rela%ation #ith large interstices bet#een the atoms,#here foreign elements enter and set p a disharmonios separate organi/ation, as for e%ample intberclosis, cancer or tmor.

1ccltism teaches that all disease has its root or origin in ignorance. $he reason persons do not ha"long li"es is becase they do not kno# ho# to li"e. It is reported that Professor 2oeb, Dr. 3atthe#s a

others think that if #e cold disco"er the proper electrical conditions #e cold prolong the hman lifto more than t#o hndred years. It is said by physicists that most animals li"e abot "e times as loas is reired for them to matre. Applying this rle to man he oght to li"e to be at least onehndred and "e years old. $hat he does not li"e to this age is becase he does not nderstand thela#s of life and the real natre of disease. 4e kno#s nothing abot controlling the atoms #hichcompose his body nor ho# to se the Cosmic forces #ith #hich he is constantly srronded for theprpose of re"i"ifying his physical body. !$he #ages of sin 5ignorance6 is death,! and disease is thereslt of mental conditions.

or e%ample, take a common cold. In ninety-nine cases ot of one hndred, colds are contracted #hepeople are mentally negati"e. $he mind, instead of being positi"e, instead of dominating its physicaparticles and holding them contracted into a proper shape, becomes rela%ed and negati"e and loses

its force. As a conseence, the body responds to this rela%ed condition, the molecles becomeabnormally separated, and foreign elements enter, and set p an independent acti"ity of their o#n.$he case #as mental rela%ation, or negati"eness.

(hy does a piece of glass recei"e the impression from, the point of a diamond #hen the diamond #not recei"e an impression from the glass' 7ecase the diamond is of a ick, positi"e, high rate of"ibration, #hile the glass is negati"e and of a mch slo#er rate than the diamond. $he glass cannotenter the interstices of the diamond becase of its intense "ibration. $hs it is #ith the mind that ispositi"e and strong* it can dominate and control its body so #ell that foreign destrcti"e elementscannot enter into it.

Some diseases can be traced back to the mental conditions #hich prodced them and some cannot3any cases of heart troble are directly traceable to fear. $he mind, #orking pon the body, casesan irreglar &o# of blood* the fear, #ith its concomitant heart distrbance, commences a "ibration oan abnormal rate, and soon that condition, #hich, in the beginning #as a fnctional troble, becomeorganic disease. 3any fe"ers are de to fear. $he rst thing yo shold do for a patient #ho iss)ering #ith fe"er is to take a#ay his fear, and his temperatre #ill drop degrees at a time. $hecase of congestion of di)erent organs of the body can often be traced back to a "iolent paro%ysm oanger. Professor Elmer 8ates, of (ashington, D. C., has fond that a large nmber of acids andpoisons in the blood are created by the direct action of the mind.

Sometimes the mental case cannot be traced, becase there ha"e been se"eral di)erent mentalconditions #hich combined to prodce the material reslt. $hen, too, a disease is often prodcedmentally, and before it appears physically, other mental conditions ha"e arisen, #hich pre"ent itsbeing traced to its original case. 1ccltism goes so far as to declare that e"en the so-calledhereditary diseases are de to the mental condition of the s)erer, becase it is the mental conditioor ality of the mind dring a pre"ios incarnation, #hich broght him into that particlar family, acompelled him to take the diseased body at birth.

Disease may be di"ided into t#o classes, the imaginary and the real. Imaginary disease is a pictreheld rmly by the ob+ecti"e mind, #hich cases more or less physical correspondence. $his kind ofdisease is often created in total disregard of the la#s go"erning anatomy or physiology* and is thehardest to cre, becase persons possessed of it hold to it so persistently that an entire re"ision oftheir mode of thoght mst be made before it can be cred. It is not at all infreent to ha"e a patiecomplain of kidney disease, locating the pain and the organs se"eral inches belo# the #aist line. $hspleen is often spposed to be on the right side of the body, and phantom tmors appear and

disappear. 7t all these mental Pictres, if held long enogh, create matrices or "ortices, and dra#into them the elements that #ill bring nally the actal disease that #as at rst prely imaginary. oe%ample9 Sometimes indigestion and gases in the stomach case a distention of that organ, it pressp against the heart region, casing a fnctional distrbance of the heart, and the patient becomescon"inced that he has organic heart disease. $his pictre in the patient:s mind is the matri%, and hisfear of the disease dra#s it to him in corse of time. If the 3ind holds the pictre of anything longenogh, #hether it be disease or health, po"erty or prosperity, that pictre mst and #ill materiali/eo #ho ha"e follo#ed Charcot:s e%periments need no frther proof of the action of the mind pon tbody.

$he second class or real disease, prodced primarily by mental cases, and often spplemented by pro%imate physical case, mst be cred by controlling the imaging faclty. And in this connection leit be nderstood that the #ords !cre! and !heal! are sed as poplarly nderstood, and #ill be seinterchangeably - not in any speciali/ed sense, as some modern metaphysicians se them. $o crereal disease is to restore to a normal condition the fnctions or tisses of the body, and to do this th"ibrations of the a)ected part mst be raised to their normal rate. In cases of misplacement, dislocation, or broken bones, the ickest #ay to obtain relief is to send for a competent physician oan anatomist and ha"e an ad+stment made of the in+red member or organ. In cases of disrption oblood "essels, or mscles, a srgeon:s aid shold be immediately soght* not becase mind is nabto cre any or all of these cases, bt becase of the fact that at the present time, e"en amongedcated people, mind is many times impotent throgh misse or non-se. 3ental treatment sholdfollo# these physical treatments in order to ob"iate nnecessary s)ering and to obtain rapid

    reco"ery.

In cases #here the "ibrations of a part of the body ha"e been lo#ered, or #here foreign particles ha"entered, there are se"eral material methods of restoring health or harmony to the a)ected parts. 1nof these is stimlation by physical maniplation, as in the practice of 1steopathy* another isstimlation throgh electrical appliances. ;either of these methods, ho#e"er, reaches the mentalcase for the disease, and e"en thogh the physical distrbance be remo"ed throgh either methodit can be only a estion of time before it reappears. $he electric crrent is a part of the Cosmic blecrrent, and by intelligent se it may be made to raise the "ibrations of an a)ected part and restore to its normal condition* naided by mind, it can only remo"e the e)ects, and ne"er the case of thedisease. $he time is not far distant #hen the t#o great therapetical agencies for healing the sick #be electricity and maniplation, representing the material school, and mind, representing themetaphysical school.

A third means of cring disease is by properly prepared non-poisonos "egetable componds. $he1ccltist does not belie"e in the se of mineral drgs as no# practiced, nor does he belie"e thatpoisons shold be administered to a patient. 3ost minerals and poisons are of sch a lo# rate of"ibration that #hen introdced into the physical body they ser"e to nally lo#er its "ibrations rathethan to raise them. $hogh they stimlate temporarily, the reaction lea"es the patient in a #orsecondition. Poisons sometimes appear to e)ect a cre becase pon their administration the acteform of the disease disappears* bt e"en a close stdy of e)ects teaches s that the disease #as nocred* its e%pression #as changed, bt it soon appeared in another form and place, and a ne# namehad to be in"ented to designate it from the old one. $o deny that drgs ha"e an e)ect pon thehman body, as do some of the radical metaphysicians at the present time, is to deny and ignore thobser"ations of daily life, and also the la# of physics, #hich asserts that t#o or more bodies cominginto +%taposition mtally a)ect each other* and also e%cldes consciosness from a part of the

physician that one #old recei"e #ho #as "ibrating red or bro#n. $his is the reason modern medicinis #hat it is called, an e%perimental science. (hen a "egetable remedy has been sitablycomponded for an indi"idal according to his "ibrations, a cre #ill be e)ected by that remedy. $hethe same medicine, if it #ere gi"en to another person s)ering from the same disease, bt #hose"ibrations #ere of a totally di)erent rate or color, #old ha"e a di)erent e)ect. $he "ibrations of the"egetable remedies mst spplement the lo#ered "ibrations of the person sing them, if good reslare to be had.

2et it be nderstood, ho#e"er, that 1ccltism teaches that mind is the spreme po#er, and, #henproperly de"eloped and trained, can cre all diseases, and that in the corse of time it #ill be the on

force that man #ill se to keep the hman body in a normal, healthy and harmonios condition. 7tntil that Arcadian time shall come, it is not #ell to deny that the 8reat Consciosness has alsopro"ided for Its nde"eloped children material #ays and means for their relief from physical ills.

In cring disease by the po#er of mind there is the conscios and the nconscios se of the Cosmiforces. All the modern metaphysical schools di)er some#hat among themsel"es in regard to theprocess by #hich cres are performed, yet all perform some remarkable ones. Some schools sestrenos denials, and, consciosly or nconsciosly, hypnoti/e their patients, and #hile the patientare in this condition change their thoght, and in this manner change the manifestation of the diseathey are s)ering from. 1ther schools, throgh repeated sggestion, case the patient to accept ane# line of thoght, and #ith the change of thoght the body changes. In both these classes of caseit is the direct action of mind pon mind #hich brings abot the change in the condition of the

patients. 1ther schools, throgh denials and a0rmations, or throgh a0rmations and demand, petition or prayer, and throgh pictring the desired reslt, nconsciosly pt into operation theCosmic forces. $he 1cclt school ses consciosly the Cosmic forces for the prpose of healing. In tht#o last-named schools there is not only the action of mind pon mind, bt ne# elements are dra#ninto the physical body of the patient, #hereby the old, diseased atoms are cast ot and ne# ones arleft in their places.

$here are three things that the 1ccltist attempts to do in making a cre throgh mental means. irhe destroys the mental pictre of disease #hich his patient holds as a matri%* second, he raises the"ibrations of that portion of the body #hich has become lo#ered, and makes it "ibrate normally, thforcing ot all foreign elements* and third, he spplements the elements dri"en ot #ith ne#elements, #hich are introdced into the system by the Cosmic force &o#ing throgh it.

4ere are a fe# rles that may be helpfl to yo in demonstrating o"er disease9

First. It is #ell to a"oid seeing the manifestation of the disease, if possible.

7y doing this yo #ill not ha"e the pictre of disease constantly in mind and #ill be able to see moreclearly the pictre of perfect health yo mst create for the patient. If yo do not see the ob+ecti"esymptoms of an gly #ond, or an articial gro#th, it is easier to make a perfect image and to presethat pictre to the mind of the patient. In cases #here there are only sb+ecti"e symptoms, ne"er leyor sympathies go ot to the patient, bt hold yorself positi"e against any emotion of fear #hich may ha"e. $he moment yor o#n emotions become +oined #ith his, yor po#er to destroy his mentapictres of disease is #eakened* yo ha"e then accepted his creations and are bt accentating thepictres in his mind.

Second. (hen yo ha"e learned from the patient #hat his creations are, yo are able to destroythem by denying their permanency, if they e%ist temporarily, or by denying them absoltely if theyare imaginary.

After making yor denials, follo# them #ith a0rmations of that #hich is tre* create a perfect physicondition for yor patient, and hold that thoght pictre till he himself accepts it. Shold a patientcome to yo claiming heart disease, #hen the physical distrbance #as nothing bt indigestion, donot deny his claim adibly lest he be o)ended. It is not necessary to gi"e a patient a diagnosis of hisactal condition, becase sometimes this #old bt intensify his fears.

    5/7

In actal disease deny its permanency and a0rm health. or e%ample, in case of a cold, deny itspermanency and declare positi"eness for the patient, and as his "ibrations are raised, direct theCosmic force throgh his body. As his rela%ed condition is corrected and the interstices bet#een theatoms gro# smaller, the foreign elements become cro#ded ot or e%pelled from the system* andnder this treatment e"ery part of the body #ill respond to the positi"e condition of yor mind.Denials destroy* a0rmations create. $he Christian Scientists, and many 3ental Scientists se deniallargely and sometimes e%clsi"ely, #hile the ;e# $hoght Scientists se a0rmations alone. It isrged by this last-named class of healers that the denial is contained in the a0rmation* bt tomentally a0rm a healthy condition #ithot denying or destroying the pictres of disease held by thepatient, is like attempting to bild a ne# hose on a site already occpied by another bilding #itho

rst clearing the grond. o cold take ot an old brick and pt a ne# one in its place till the ne#hose #as bilt* bt it #old reire a mch longer time than it #old to tear do#n the old strctrerst.

Third. In ordinary treatment by physical contact, take the left hand of yor patient #ith yor righthand, that the Cosmic orce may enter yor left side and pass ot at yor right, or positi"e side, intothe left, or recepti"e side, of the patient.

o shold remain in a positi"e condition of mind #hile treating in this manner, or yor o#n personamagnetism or life force #ill be dra#n from yo #ith the Cosmic orce into the patient.

Fourth. In a case of depleted mental condition of a patient, in epilepsy, insanity, and in spinal trobplace yor right hand pon the top of the patient:s head #hile gi"ing the treatment. $his positionthro#s the crrent #here it is most needed, and the reslts #ill be more nearly immediate.

Fifth. In cases of cancers, tmors, boils, s#ellings, or any kind of separate gro#th, co"er the a)ectepart #ith a #hite silk handkerchief, and then place yor right hand o"er it #hile gi"ing the treatmen

$he ob+ect in doing this is t#ofold. irst, by co"ering the gro#th #ith the handkerchief, yo do not seit and are better able to pictre perfection in its place* and second, by placing yor hand pon thea)ected part yo bring the crrent of force directly into it, and this conser"es force.

Sixth. =eep yor left hand o) the patient #hen treating.

1ther#ise yo form a complete circit #ith him, and as the ne# life goes into him throgh his lefthand or side, yo dra# his old, #orn-ot or demagneti/ed atoms into yorself, thereby lo#ering yoo#n rate of "ibration, and bringing a physical condition pon yorself similar to that #hich yo aretrying to relie"e.

Seventh. In separate gro#ths, se the highest shade of the particlar Cosmic orce or color yo ha"selected to se for yor patient.

Sppose yo desire to se green* then treat #ith the ltra ray of green, becase that is the highestrate of "ibration of that color and #ill bring the ickest reslts. 4erein lies the great sccess of the1ccltist o"er the ma+ority of healers, and o"er those #ho se mechanical processes. (hen the >-ra- #hich is no# kno#n to be one of the higher shades of green - is thro#n pon an indi"idali/edgro#th, it immediately commences its disrpti"e process, and mch better reslts are obtained than#ith the knife. Its limitation is like that of srgery, in that it does not reach the blood* conseently, the germs are throgh the blood of the patient, there #ill be a retrn of the disease. 7t if the healeplaces his hand o"er the a)ected part and ses the ltra shade of the Cosmic color selected, anddirects the crrent throgh the entire system, the germs #ill be destroyed, and a retrn of the disea#ill be impossible.

Eighth. Concentrate on the ara of the patient to get his predominant color, and then ask of the

    6/7

Ninth. Demand of Deity that yo may be sed as an instrment for It to manifest throgh.

$his demand, like any other, mst, and #ill be, met, becase #hate"er is held in mind constantly msooner or later materiali/e. If yo desire to be a healer of the sick, and to relie"e s)ering, thatthoght in yor mind makes of yo that kind of a center, and if yo are honest and faithfl all thehealing po#ers in the

therefore cannot e%press anything bt lo"e,! and instead of gi"ing a philosophical e%planation of therelationship bet#een 8od and the patient, and sho#ing ho# 8od #ill ans#er his prayers for help andhealth, say something short and decisi"e, sch as !o are not afraid of this disorder* yo cannot beafraid, becase it is nothing to fear. o are getting #ell. o are mind and can control yor body.!

$hese are a fe# of the rles and sggestions #hich may be sed in sccessfl mind healing. $here aothers, bt I am no# trying to sho# yo those #hich e%emplify the la#s #hich nderlie thephenomena of healing. $here is a la# #hich lies behind form and if yo nderstand and practice thesggestions I ha"e made, yo can gradally change the rates of "ibration of yor body and also itsform ntil yo can make it precisely #hat yo desire. $hrogh this practice #ill come the po#er to

    help others, for #ith e"ery e)ort yo #ill gro# stronger.

7y attending a corse of t#el"e lectres on harmony yo #ill not become a great msician, bt yomay in those lectres be taght ho# to stdy and ho# to practice. It is by diligent practice thatprociency in anything can be attained, and so it is #ith 1ccltism. It is the reglar mental practice, the se of Cosmic forces, the imaging, the controlling, the directing, the thinking that make yostrong. 4a"ing gi"en yo the rles it remains #ith yo #hether this kno#ledge shall be prelyintellectal or #hether yo #ill make practical se of it.
