Drexel High School

They may not be wise as the wisest, they may not be

clever or strong.

There'll be times you will think that their counsel

is narrow or utterly wrong.

You will think when they frown upon pleasures which

you are so eager to share

That your father and mother who love you are merely

an old-fashioned pair.

But this they would have you remember, whatever

they say or they do

It is not of themselves they are thinking. . .their

thoughts are all centered in you.

There are those who will flatter to please you for

something they're eager to gain.

There are those who will seem to befriend you who

never will constant remain.

Some stranger will lead you to folly and leave you

the moment it's done.

Some, not caring what harm may befall you, will

tempt you with dangerous fun.

You may question the motives of others, but remember

your whole lifetime through

Your father and mother who love you have no other

motive than you.

There is nothing of profit they're seeking; there's

nothing they want you to buy.

You've no reason to doubt what they tell you; they've

nothing to gain by a lie,

Whenever they check or correct you, it is not for

themselves that they speak.

They would happier be could they praise you, but

it's only your welfare they seek.

You may think them old-fashioned and fussy and

narrow, as children will do.

But remember your father and mother have all their

hopes centered in you.

Prophecy

As i turned on the T. V. set, I was indeed surprised to see the features of RichardArrowood, an old classmate of mine, reporting the world's latest news.

The first item concerned Wayne Reece, the world famous sportscaster. It seems that while

he was announcing a game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and the New York Yankees, he

got so excited that he fell off the chair and broke his arm.

Next came an item from the world of fashion. Lucille Crowe, owner of a lineof beauty

shops, created a sensation when she introduced a new hairdo called "The Possum Spread."

It was modeled by Jeanne Fleming, a model from Erect Studios, owned by Robert Helms and

the former Shirley Keller.

As in all good programs, there must be advertisements and this one was no different. 1

always leave during the advertisements but when the announcer appeared I was spellbound.

It was Steve Lowdermilk, who was telling all the advantages of a new product put out by

the James Walker Manufacturing Company.

The news from the world of sports was full of surprises. First, Johnny Jacumin, goalie

for the Montreal Bears, was fined for hitting Bobby Powell, goalieofthe Charlotte Cl ippers.

We were told that one more outburst like this would mean a suspension from the team along

with a one year prison term in the prison headed by that hardboi led law officer John Baker .Next

was a more cheerful note. Bobby Shull, leading batter for the New York Yankees, seems to

be a frequent escort of Miss Wilma Lane, private secretary of Henry Rhoney, vice-president

of the Rex Williams Steel Works. Last, the leading race driver of the century, Fred Lail,

has just won the Harold Ledford Trophy. This trophy ismadeavailablethrough the generosity

of the famous millionaire from which it gets its name.

A new book on religion, published by a new author, Emily Edwards, seems to be taking

hold and the owner of the Howard Secrest Publishing Company is hoping that it will go over

the Million Mark. Their leading advertising agent, Harold Pruitt is making all efforts to

attain this goal

.

Now the news from Hollywood, Gary Barber has just produced his latest thriller, staring

two new comers, Jackie Lockee and Anna Mae Rockett. It is a true story of two of the

leading scientists of all times, Ronald Singleton and Carelene Clark.

TheRonny Chi I dres Trio composed of Ronny Childres, Candace Berry, and Sue Yarborough

are appearing for a week's engagement at the Pines Hotel with the famous Ross and LowmanOrchestra furnishing the accompaniment. The owner of the Pines, Jackie Powell, says he

expects large crowds on opening night. The next stars appearing at the Pines will be Marie

Watts, the famous dancer, Charlotte Reece, the sultry torch singer, and the two remarkable

piano playing sisters, Jane and Myrna Oxford.

Seeing and hearing of all the accomplishments of my former classmates proved too great

a strain for me and I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness.

When I awoke I was surprised to see Jean Barber, rh£ receptionist, seated behind her

large desk typing my admittance slip. I was taken to my room by Marforie Grigg, head

supervisor of the hospital.

In came a cute little nurse. Imagine my surprise when I saw she was Betty Berry. Due to

her careful nursing, I was soon home and watching T. V. again.

GARY BARBER

Prophesier

Page 22: The Cavalcade [1957]

Defy ing all thoughts of personal safety.

Quickly he carried the ball.

Even the defensive couldn't stop him.

No, not one of them al I

.

As he reached the sixty-yard line.

The goal post loomed up ahead.

Now he knew he could make it,

A touchdown would soon be his stead.

Carefully he eluded opposition.

Yet, he was felled to the ground.

L istlessly he was lifted.

The whole team gathered 'round.

A day, a week, a month.

Would it never end?

Recovery peeked around the corner.

Then he began to mend.

Keep on playing for Drexel, Dean,

Three cheers for a Wonderful Friend!

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENTWe, the Senior Class of Drexel High School on this day of May thirtieth, nineteen hundred

and fifty-seven, being in full possession of all our intellectual abilities, and having finally, by

devious and sundry routes, drawn nearer to the graduation of all high-school students, hereby de-

for having made these years of education possible.

To Mr. Hallyburton. . .our thanks for his leadership and co-operation.
