The Dorman JROTC Battalion would like to acknowledge one of our dedicated Cadets. Dusty Hardee is the exact representation of selfless-service and honor. With Christmas approaching, Dusty began taking angel’s off the angel tree to buy presents for the less fortunate. In return, Dusty wanted to receive Christmas cards. As soon as his story made it’s way into social media, the cards began to flood in. His story of generosity was heard around the world. Our Battalion is honored to have such an amazing, caring cadet in the program. Thank you Dusty for positively representing your country, school, and battalion.

“Cadets, as your commander I would like to thank each and every one of you for your patience so far this semester. To repay the efforts of everyone in the Battalion I am working hard along side the excellent Officers under my command to insure the remainder of this semester, and the events within it, are executed smoothly.”

March 6, 2015 - The RS Central High School Marine Corps JROTC rifle meet was held on 6 March. SFC Walt Lee, Rifle team coach, took two 4-man teams to the competition. Cavalier Rifle team Cadet 2LT Jordan Sourbeck, team captain, is proud of his team’s accomplishments. “Practice makes perfect and it's shown since the beginning of the school year.” The best shooters on the day for Dorman were Cadets Jason Howard and Shannon Stewart who earned team-high shooter medals. Nathan Whiteaker, Austin Patton and Logan Owenby joined Howard and Stewart in winning Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) bronze medals. Everyone was really close to their personal best scores.” We didn't finish in the top 3, but we still did very well for what we were aiming for.” The top four scores from the Cavalier Rifle team fell just 7 points shy of the qualifying score for the Brigade Best of the Best Competition coming up later this year. Keep up the good work rifle team!

There are many places to go this spring break. The top four places to go on Instagram this year are Ten Thousand Islands, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Corfu Island. Ten Thousand Islands is located in Southern Florida. This location has beautiful weather, kayaking lessons, and starry nights. It’s a great relaxing vacation for you as a student and your parents. Chicago is another hot spot. In Chicago not only can your family explore the largest city in the Midwest, but volunteer with the Habitat for Humanity. This organization helps rebuild homes for the less fortunate. Washington D.C. was also on the top four. In Washington D.C. there is a lot of history to learn about and festivals. Going to this location would not only be a vacation but also a brain stimulator. Last, but not least there is Corfu Island. Corfu Island is located in Greece. Even though this location is out of country, it is a lot cheaper than you think. Right now the Euro is down, so that means your trip would be extremely cheap. Corfu Island is a wonderful place to see exquisitely beautiful water all spring break. Spring break is right around the corner so you better get your plans started now.

9 March - Cadets have ample opportunities to explore and research using our new technology. Each class is equipped with high-tech touch screen laptops cadets use for projects and other assignments. Along with laptops, the Army provided a brand new printer for use by the instructors and

JROTC Fundraiser Movie NightsMovie nights are a new fundraising event created by the Cavalier Battalion’s Military Honor Society (MHS). The MHS hosted two movie nights during the last month – one on 11 February and one on 6 March. Cadets and their families enjoyed a pizza dinner before the show began. This fundraising event recently featured the movie Monster’s University. We appreciate everyone who came to support our battalion!

This months cadet profile features Sergeant Lena Vernon. SGT Vernon is new to the program but has not hesitated with getting involved. Aside from being a member of the raider team, Vernon is also a prominent squad leader. “My goal as a squad leader is a squad leader to ensure that my squad members have motivation

and the LET knowledge in order to succeed in JROTC and specifically Bravo company.” JROTC has given her the opportunity to learn discipline and leadership skills. Vernon plans on going to basic training and join the Army reserves following high school. SGT Vernon is an excellent example of Cadet leadership.

and (sometimes) the BN staff. Soon the Army will be providing a new laptop a part of its technology upgrade package. Coupled with 29 very nice laptops provided by the school district at the beginning of the school year, the Cav BN is more technology capable than we have ever been before. All of these new accommodations are greatly appreciated and ensure the academic success of each JROTC Cadet. Cadets should take advantage of these capabilities to become tech-savvy and improve their skills for the 21st Century job market.

The Army Service Uniform (ASU) dress jackets have finally arrived in the battalion. The jackets that were ordered last fall, and sorely needed, arrived in the last few days and have been issued to our Cadets. Seniors were the first priority, followed by Drill Team and Color Guard. After that, they were issued in order of class seniority. This will free up more black jackets for those Cadets that do not have a jacket at all. If you still do not have a jacket, please notify your chain of command.
