Faithfull Thoughts
FAITHFUL THOUGHTS….. Lentils, Lint and Lent I don’t think there really is a connection in common with these three….Lent, Lint and Lentils. But, let me try to create one. It will be fun and perhaps even a little thought provoking and encouraging. Lentils, of course, are a major cash crop of the state of Washington. Lentils are beans. The farm lands of eastern Washington produce a lot of wheat, potatoes and….lentils. A variety of lentils grown in our northwest region include: Brown/Spanish pardina, French green , Green, Black, Yellow, Red, Eston Green, Richlea, Laird, Petite Golden, Masoor , Petite crimson/red, Macachiados. Washington is the nation’s 2nd largest producer of lentils. Lentils are a basic, very good, healthy food and very nutritious. Lint, of course, is what you get out of your clothes dryer after you have run a load of laundry or two through the machines. Lint is sort of the “fluff” of clothing that just can’t seem to hold on to the rest of the fabric once it has been “put through the ringer” so to speak. (Younger people will have to research the meaning behind that phrase). Lint really needs to be removed from the clothes dryer in order to minimize the likelihood of a “dryer fire” caused when too much lint buildup overheats and catches fire. Lint is something you just need to rid yourselves of or you run the risk of fire. Ok, are you still reading? Lent in the season of 40 days (excluding Sundays) preceding Easter. Lent is a “season” of the church year. In this season, we are to rid ourselves of the material buildup in our moral or literal lives that, if not removed could result in….fire. Lent is a season of self-denial and repentance. It’s not the most popular season of the year because we don’t like to look at the lint buildup in our lives, the “fluff” that adds no meaning to life. Lent is a season of confession and commitment to faithfulness as followers of Jesus. Even though it is not the most popular season, it is a necessary season. Like lentils, it is “good for us” to maintain a spiritual health and as they say, “confession is good for the soul.” Here is a challenge for you: Be in worship each week during Lent. February 17 through Easter, March 31. It will be good for your spiritual health. It will give you every opportunity to let go of the fluff of life that is dangerous to carry around. It will deepen your relationship with our Lord and that will be refreshing to you in every way. See you Sunday, Pastor John A Brewer Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:19

Shepherding The mission of the Shepherding Team is to be of assistance to the congregation in small ways, such as providing meals for congregants who are recovering from illness or surgeries, facilitating prayer chain requests, sending cards and letters in the event of illness or loss, providing transportation to medical appointments, and maintaining communication with congregants who may not be able to attend church due to extended illness or other reasons. If anyone knows of a person in need of any of these services, please contact Jane Peters at [email protected] or Kathleen Mills at [email protected]. In the Beginning Preschool & Mother’s Day Out
I Know that I am Loved at……………… Happy Valentines Day and Welcome to the Lenten Season! Your preschool ministry has finished a very important month of registration for the 2013-2014 school year. We are so humbled and grateful to have the kind of loyalty and dedication to our ministry as we do in our current families, those alumni families and to our delight, Faith families too. Thank you all so very much! Public registration tours are going well. Each day, we fill our class rosters a little bit more. We have openings in our Bunnies (20 mos. old), Monkeys (2 ½ yr. olds), Bears (3 yr. olds) and Tigers (3 ½ yrs.) classes. Our website has the most up to date enrollment information: www.inthebeginningpreschool.org for your convenience. If you are interested or know any one who is looking for a preschool, please share our website with them or have them call the preschool for a tour! We are looking ahead to a blessed 2013-2014 school year! We will be celebrating and learning about the meaning of Saint Valentine and his day, our Presidents, welcoming our local Community Helpers like the Fire Fighters towards the end of the month to learn about fire safety. This month holds so many wonderful possibilities for our students and we are so thankful to be able to engage, nurture, love and teach these young children here at Faith. In the next couple of months I will have the opportunity to meet over 60 potential families who are looking for a Christian preschool for their child, through tours, emails, the telephone and it always gives me great pleasure to be share with them all the fantastic programming and connecting opportunities Faith can offer them. Faith is a place of community: it is a place of worship, where the Word of God is alive and is felt long after Sunday Services are over with… Blessings and Love, Kathryn, PAT and the ITBP/FMDO Staff Thank you and stay warm. Blessings, Kathryn Aitcheson 425-392-0123 X3 [email protected] / www.inthebeginningpreschool.org

Youth Ministry
2013 has brought about much change for our youth program. With the search for a new youth director on, we can’t help but ask ourselves, “What change will come?” Change can be a terrifying thing. It means that we are never allowed to slip into a state of compla-cency or stagnation. It reminds us that everything must end and begin anew. But will what we love about the program be lost as well? Change WILL come to the program. Some changes you may like and some you may disagree with. However, the Bible tells us, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9. This tells us that God will remain with us through any changes that may come. We just have to remember who and what is truly important and He will never forsake our youth program. When a leader leaves, the change that follows is always scary but let me remind you, our youth program is so much more than any one person. The program is not defined by the youth director. It is defined by the youth who come and support each other in times of happiness and times of strife. It is defined by the parent volunteers who give up their time for perhaps the noblest of reasons, to help shape young hearts and minds by providing role models for them. It is defined by our congregation who, by their grace and generosity, allow the program to exist and thrive.
2013 may be seen as a scary time for our program. It could end up being another transition year where nothing was accomplished, people left and events stopped happening. Let me offer an alternative. It could also be the year where we shaped the program into the thriving, vital community that it always could be. That choice isn’t up to any one person. That choice is up to all of us and that choice needs to be made now. Not tomorrow or when the new director steps in, but now. God will stand with us but we have to make the choice. Where will the youth program go from here?
