Chairman’s Report 5-2-2012

Our guest speaker last Tuesday was Ross McEwan from Track Trailers, makers of off road trailers and

vans. Ross had worked in the wool industry. He “retired” in 2002 and after learning the short comings of

tents bought the first of four T vans. This lead to an association with Track Trailers and he became their

representative.

Track Trailers was began by a builder name Allan Mawson in the 1980’s. His success with off road

vehicles was the MC2 suspension. ( before then and even today many off road vehicles have leaf

suspension). Allan was a good thinker but a poor business man and the company is now owned by another

family.

Ross, with the aid of the over head projector, lead us through the development of the T Van since the

1980’s. The photographs and his presentation covered all off road trailers and trailers produced for

commercial and military use. One of the military (single axle) trailer’s had tyres that were 1.5m high, with

20+ wheel nuts attaching the wheel to the hub. The trailer dwarfed the Nissan Patrol it was attached to.

Track Trailers is situated at 206 Dorset Road Bayswater and has about 30 employees. A very professional

presentation supported by good photos.

Was the presentation for our president! who is also named Ross and also owns a T van.

One month ago 46 people reached our facebook page for the week. From the 1st to the 7th of

February 367 people had reached our page. And still climbing. Thanks to the members that have

got behind this futuristic marketing tool. At the time of publication 74 people visited the page on

the Lilydale cemetery and 60 people visited Marlene’s page on her brother’s article in the Herald

Sun. Our page is being followed by a number of Rotary Clubs nationally and internationally.

Have you done your bit to help us grow this? Don’t know how? Follow Marlene’s example and

ask.

Our Secretary Tony.

He is the latest in our a long line

of grandfathers.

CAN WE TURN OUR LEMONS INTO LEMONADE?

The February issue of Rotary Down Under has some excellent articles and one that stands out

Is an editorial suggesting our marketing of Rotary sucks. Take the time to have a read. Hopefully

the article may provoke some ideas outside of the envelope.
