Dear Parishioners- I am pleased to inform you that public Masses are being celebrated here at St. Augus ne's Church this weekend with the Vigil of the Solemnity of Pentecost on Saturday, May 30th at 5 PM. Our usual Sunday Mass schedule will resume with Masses at 7 AM, 9:30 AM, 11:30 AM and 5:30 PM. Our daily
Masses will resume the following day, June 1st, at 7 AM. All this being said, the church will look a bit different upon your return. First of all, access is limited to 25% of the church capacity. Ushers will be available to ensure we don’t ex-
ceed this capacity which is approximately 300 persons. Any changes will be communicated on the parish website or answering machine. The church has been completely sani zed. Commonly touched surfaces will con nue to be cleaned a er each Mass.
All are required to wear masks or face coverings while in church, unless a physical restric on prevents it. With the excep on of family members living in the same household, all must maintain a 6 feet distance from
one another. Ushers will be available to help facilitate this prac ce. All must enter the church from the front doors only. The side entrance on Old Rd (with the excep on of the
handicapped entrance) and the back parking lot doors will NOT be accessible for entry to church. Missale es have been removed from the pews. Holy water fonts will remain empty. The sign of peace remains suspended. Budget envelopes will be placed in the basket at the entrances of the church before or a er Mass. There will
be no "formal" offertory collec on or passing of the basket at this me. Because of the difficulty of requiring constant sani za on and cleaning, bathrooms will be accessible in
church for EMERGENCY use only. Holy Communion will be distributed in the center aisle only and parishioners will return to their seats by the
side aisles. A er proper hand sani za on, Father Brice and I will be the only ones, at the present me, distribu ng Holy Communion. Those parishioners may come up, pew by pew, to receive Holy Communion as usual. But while in line, parishioners must work to maintain a 6 feet distance from one another.
The faithful are to receive Holy Communion in the hand while wearing their masks and then remove their masks to receive the sacred host. Holy Communion may not be received in the hand by a member of the faithful wearing gloves.
Anyone with underlying health condi ons or anyone manifes ng symptoms of illness is advised NOT to a end the public celebra on of Mass. Mass will con nue to be live-streamed on Sundays; however, beginning on May 31st, the me will change to 9:30 AM to coincide with our scheduled me of liturgy. Daily Masses will also be live-streamed beginning at 7 AM on June 1st. Our Saturday Mass will con nue to be offered and live-streamed at 8 AM preceded by the praying of the Rosary. Because of the smaller a endance expected at daily Mass, all the doors of the church will be unlocked.
The Bishop con nues to dispense everyone in the Diocese from the obliga on to a end Sunday Mass and Holy Day Masses un l further no ce.
I appreciate your pa ence, prudence and flexibility as we begin this transi on back to public worship. The list of direc ves and informa on provided is not an exhaus ve one as policies and procedures con nue to be refined and changed on an almost daily basis. I will provide you with necessary guidance as it is received. Thank you for all your support as we navigate this new normal, in faith and hope, together! Father Forcier
Catholic Charity Appeal Due to the ongoing crisis of COVID-19, the original plans for this year's diocesan Appeal have had to be revised and adjusted. Our volunteer collectors will be contacting you. Because of the "social distancing" in effect, you will NOT be contacted in-person, but by phone. Please help us by answering your phones and being prepared to respond to the Catholic Charity volunteer's request for a pledged gift or a one-time donation. If you are not usually contacted by a volunteer or don't want to delay making your contribution, you may drop off your donation in the rectory mail slot or mail to us at 20 Old Road, Providence, RI 02908. We prefer that you not mail your gift to the diocese as it is easier for us to process
here at the parish level and then forward it to them. Thank you to all those who have already made donations to this year's Appeal.
