Soren Kierkegaard, the great Danish theologian of another century, tells a story of a prince who wanted to find a maiden suitable to be his queen. He could order her to marry him, but even a prince wants his bride to marry him freely and voluntarily and not through coercion. He could put on his most splendid uniform and drive up to her front door in a carriage drawn by six horses; but if he did this, he would never know whether the maiden loved him or was simply overwhelmed with all of the splendor. As you might have guessed, the prince came up with another solution. He gave up his kingly robe. He moved into the village, entering not with a crown but in the garb of a peasant. He lived among the people, shared their interests and concerns, and talked their language. In time, the maiden grew to love him for who he was and because he had first loved her. Two, it gives us a firsthand view of what the mind of God is really all about. When people ask what God is like, we as Christians point to the person of Jesus Christ. God is incomprehensible, but in Jesus Christ, we get a glimpse of God’s glory. Through the person of Jesus, we are told that God, the mysterious other who created the stars and the universe, is willing to go all of the way to be one of us, to talk our language, eat our food, share our suffering, die on a cross. Why? So that a single person - you, me, anyone - might be redeemed, And grow to love Him. Peace, Fr. Jim The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad June 16, 2019

Kierkegaard's Story of the Prince

We affirm a belief in the Son, Jesus Christ. We say that God took on human form, came and lived among us, suffered the same trials that we suffer, experienced the same feelings that we experience. Jesus was purely human and purely divine. Jesus was not only God. Jesus was God incarnate. There is a difference. Jesus never drew attention to himself but always pointed to God, his Father.

Soren Kierkegaard, the great Danish theologian of another century, tells a story of a prince who wanted to find a maiden suitable to be his queen. One day, while running an errand for his father in the local village, he passed through a poor section. As he glanced out the window of the carriage, his eyes fell upon a beautiful peasant maiden. During the ensuing days, he often passed by the young lady and soon fell in love. But he had a problem. How would he seek her hand?

This very simple, almost childlike story, written by one of the most brilliant minds of our time, explains what we Christians mean by the incarnation. God came and lived among us. I am glad that this happened for two reasons. One, it shows beyond the shadow of a doubt that God is with us, that he is on our side, and that he loves us. Why? So that a single person - you, me, anyone - might be redeemed,

And grow to love Him.

Annie Karto: As a Catholic singer and speaker, Annie Karto has traveled the United States extensively

these past 20 years. Her ministry has also taken her to Europe, New Zealand, Rwanda, Africa, Guatemala, and Trinidad. Annie weaves her songs in and out of her testimonies. Over 20 years ago, after a deep conversion experience before the Blessed Eucharist, Annie was given the penance to spread the message of the Lord’s Divine Mercy for the rest of her life. This ‘penance’ has become a great joy! Annie has strived to use her gifts of voice and speaking skills to evangelize wherever the Lord calls her. She has been invited to major conferences, and has also shared at Magnificat Breakfasts, Divine Mercy Retreats, and Days of Reflection. Divine Mercy is the focus of her ministry. Some of Annie’s talks include “Divine Mercy Flood My Soul,” “Mary, Masterpiece of Mercy,” “Rise Up and Shape the Culture,” and “The Beauty of Being a Catholic Woman.” A highlight of her ministry was writing and singing a song for Rwandan genocide survivor, Immaculee Ilibagiza, titled “Song for Immaculee.” This led to a trip to Immaculee’s village in Rwanda, Africa, in August of 2011. Annie also wrote a song for priests, “You Are a Priest Forever,” which has been featured on EWTN for many years and which received two apostolic blessings – one from Pope John Paul II, and one from Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. Fr. Bill Casey of the Fathers of Mercy recently called that song “a classic.” Annie is available to travel to any state in the country. She lives in Treasure Island, Florida, with her husband, Dave. They have four children and nine grandchildren.
