from me to you…………

Dear friends in Christ, It does a body good to stay busy and November was a busy month around the Church. I had the joy of baptizing both a baby and an adult on Sunday, November 17. We celebrated the Lord’s supper on the last Sunday in November and we hosted the Beach Thanksgiving service. Now it’s December and the season of Advent has begun. I hope you picked up a copy of “Straw for the Manger” our Advent devotion. This is a gift from Margaret and me for our Church family. It did the Session’s heart good to receive 6 new members at our November meeting. Please take time to introduce yourself to some of the new faces in our congregation. Thanks in advance to those who will be lighting the Advent Wreath candles at 8:30 and 11:00 on the first four Sundays in December. All of our Advent activities will lead us to the Christmas Eve worship service at 5:00 on December 24. Thank Offering gathered 31 ladies from both Circles to praise God with offerings for Presbyterian Women’s overseas Missions. A wonderful video set to music gave us the details of who all benefits from the efforts from all the donations across the Presby-tery. Lunch was provided by our coordinating team. Joyce Winkler helped us to understand the meaning and beauty of our Commandment about observing the Sabbath. In Circle # 1 session, plans were made to help with the Chrismon tree, hang the wreaths, and further missions to be worked on. Prayers and praise was offered to church members in need. Joyce Skeen made plans for cookies to be delivered to Shut-ins during Christmas, meals for Habitat workers and Rose House donations. Both circles are planning on helping to contribute to purchasing duffel bags that are needed for Children’s Hope Alliance, and selected many Angles Tree tags. We look forward to a covered dish lunch together in December and another inspirational message on the Commandments from Joyce Winkler. Please come join us during our Advent season.

YEAR END CLOSE

As we prepare to close out our calendar year, we think about many things. We think about our Blessings that God has given us like the birth of our savior, Jesus

Christ, like family and friends, like our health, our safety and security, and the great country in which we live. We also have to think about our financial responsibilities

and what type of last minute gifts we want to make at the end of the year.

As businesses prepare for their fiscal year-end close, we as individuals also prepare for our calendar

year-end close. First, obviously, we want to make sure we have covered our commitment to the church and then if we have some left over we could contribute to our own SPC scholarship fund. This is an investment in the future of our youth and in our church. If you are able to do so, Please make your

check out to Shallotte Presbyterian Church and put in the corner of the check for the Scholarship fund. You can then mail your check to Shallotte Presbyterian Church or place your check in the offering

plate. There are Blue envelopes in the pew racks to enclose your gift as well.

THANKS SO MUCH for your continued support of our Scholarship Program,

Erskine Blount, Project Chair

Come enjoy Our Choir’s take on this classic piece at the 11:00 Worship Service on Sunday, December 8.

Lessons and Carols had its origin at Truro Cathedral (England) on Christmas Eve 1880, when a service of scripture and supporting carols was developed by the Bishop of Truro, F. W. Benson. Some 38 years later in 1918, this format was adapted for Christmas Eve at King’s College Chapel, Cambridge, England. The BBC broadcast from King’s College helped to popularize the Service of Lessons and Carols, and it was quickly duplicated by cathedrals and churches throughout the world. The heart of the service continues to this day — that is, the retelling of the Christian’s story of faith from the fall of Adam to the coming of the Word Incarnate.

A Festival of Lessons and Carols was complied, written and arranged by Hal H. Hopson and published by the H. W. Gray Company, 1997. Christian Copyright Licensing International No. 1445259.

Brunswick County Special Olympics Receives Donation From SPC Golf Tournament

On October 23, 2019, Wayne Tillman, Director of the Shallotte Presbyterian Golf Tournament, was pleased to hand a proceeds donation check for $500 to Steve Goodwin, Director of the Brunswick County Special Olympics. The ceremony took place at the Shallotte

Group Home and residents of the home wore their red Special Olympics shirts for the pictures.

CENTERPOINT

You were once a child who looked anxiously and perhaps tearfully up at your mother as she was about to leave you on your first day of school. Now you’re frail and elderly mother looks anxiously at you as you help

her settle into a new and unfamiliar environment in a nursing home and then prepared to leave. Her tearful goodbye makes you awkward and uncomfortable. You feel devastated by guilt. You are never prepared for

such a radical reversal in family roles.

Countless people are facing the painful reality of their parents’ decline in physical and often mental health. Parents who had once been so strong and self-sufficient are unable to care for themselves adequately or make

the simplest day-to-day decisions.

You find yourself now confronted with the daunting responsibility of your parents’ well-being. It’s no wonder that many caring adults in middle-age feel overwhelmed with the task they face

and the feelings they experience.

Counseling is often extremely helpful in looking at possible options in exploring complex feelings at this difficult time in life.
