St. Vincent De Paul

In this Sunday’s Gospel, the disciples in their struggle finally

recognize Jesus and proclaim “It is the Lord!” Have you

considered answering the call to “help the poor recognize the

Lord in their life” by joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?

National Teachers Day

5 Ways to Thank a Teacher

This National Teacher's Day,

we're thankful for everything our

educators do. Here are some

ideas to show them a little love!

1. Write an encouraging

note. Sometimes it's easier to

critique than to affirm. Kind

words can really make a teacher's day!

2. Give a helpful gift. Apples and candy are nice, but

how about something they'll use? Consider a gift card to

a coffee shop, gas station, or big-box retailer.

3. Buy some classroom necessities. Many teachers

pay for tissue, fun-colored erase board markers, and

other items out of their own pockets.

4. Bring in a snack. Treats in the breakroom are a

welcome sight after a long day in the classroom!

5. Track down your former educator. Old

acquaintances are easier to find than ever through social

media. Find a former teacher who inspired you, and send

them a message telling them that. Even if it's been 20

years, it's never too late to say thank you!

First Communion Prayer

Dear Jesus,

through bread and wine at the Last Supper,

and by your holy word,

you gave the Eucharist to your church.

You transformed common food and drink into your Body and Blood,

and offered us a share in your life

in ways we still cannot fully understand.

Grant now that these young people

will always treasure the gift they have in you.

Give them the grace to be faithful to you

and to remain in communion with your church.

As they receive their first Communion,

the Bread of Life and Cup of Salvation,

make them always aware of the hope they have

for eternal life in you.

Amen.

Please keep all our First Holy

Communicants and their families in

your prayers.

Encoun er Youth Ministry

On Palm Sunday the youth of our cluster joined with our neighboring parishes to GROW.

Becoming a band of Joyful Missionary Disciples. Our day started with icebreakers and

activities, they made cards for those in Medilodge ( Care Facility), blankets for the kids at

Children’s hospital and place mats for St. Clair Counties Meals on Wheels.

Michael Chamberland of BOLD ministries shared a powerful witness and wrapped

up with a dynamic prayer time before the blessed sacrament. The evening ended

with pizza and fellowship.

Change to the Mass Schedule

We are looking for your input. It seems the

unhealthy combination both physically and

spiritually. Please give us your suggestions for

Mass times.

Congratulations

Congratulations to all who received Sacraments during the Easter Vigil Celebration!

Please continue to pray for our neophytes and all the newly initiated as they enter

the period of mystagogia.

Now that we have celebrated the Sacred Triduum our lives are returning to their normal paces.

Well not exactly. With the Easter celebration of the Paschal Mysteries hopefully there has been a

transformation in all of our lives. This metanoia period or period of ongoing conversion should exemplify our lives as

something radically transformed through Christ Jesus.

Traditionally, this period is called the mystagogia, a deepening of our understandings in the mysteries of our faith. For the

newly initiated into the faith, this period is the final stage for the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. For we veteran believers

this period provides a time for "shaking-up" and reaffirming our life in the Holy Spirit. While all of us can always benefit from a

renewal of our spirituality, this period after Easter is the "high octane" celebration of an extended Easter season.

The early Church understood that post Easter many of the mysteries of faith that had been entrusted to the newly initiated

needed time to "sink-in" and mature. Mystagogia is the seeping in period, in which all believers are able to take time and more

deeply contemplate the Church's life and sacraments, which we so joyously celebrated in the past weeks. When I think of this

period it is similar to a retreat, a time in which we can take a break and understand the events that have happened in our

liturgical celebrations. It is also a great time to renew our spiritual goals that frequently take a back seat to our other domestic

activities.

Taken From Catholic Online www.catholic.org

May 12, 2019-World Day of Prayer for Vocations

What is your vocation? When I started my theology degree, one of my professors asked, "What is your vocation?" My

answer, a theology student. "Wrong!" was his thunderous response. He then began to explain the difference between

vocation and avocation. Basically, that which you do for a living is your avocation, and that which you ARE at the most

basic level of your being is your vocation. For us as Roman Catholics, our being, that which is part of our soul, is our

vocation. Sacraments change and add something to our soul. At baptism, our very being is changed so that we now

belong to Christ. During the sacrament of matrimony, we are wedding to another human being. Our soul is wedded, not

just our person. When a man is ordained, his soul is changed. He becomes a part of Christ in his very being.

So, if someone asks what your vocation is, a more appropriate answer might be, I'm a baptized Christian, or I'm married,

or I'm a deacon or priest.

Let us prayF

Good and gracious God,

we became part of you when you claimed us in baptism.

When two of us become married,

you wed us together with you as the third person.

When one of us is ordained,

you implant your very being into us,

a part of your holy Paschal Mystery.

Bless all of us as we live out our vocation to you with our lives and

breath.

Bless all of us also as we work in the world in our avocation

so that we may honestly live our vocation in the Church.

We ask all this in Christ's name.

Amen.

O Mary, who raised

your Divine Son with

the guidance of the

Holy Spirit, intercede

for all young people,

especially those

clouded by doubt

about their

vocations. May the

light of grace pierce

their hearts so they

may answer your

Son’s call, especially

those whom He is

inviting to the

priesthood and

consecrated life.

Amen.

Policy & Procedures for the Clustered Parishes of

St. Cornelius & St. John the Evangelist

Infant Baptism

Baptisms can be scheduled for the First Sunday of each month at St. Cornelius, the

Second Sunday at St. John the Evangelist with the exception of Lent. Parents must be

registered and active members of the clustered parishes for a minimum of three

months prior to the arrangement of their child’s baptism. Parents expecting a child

are encouraged to contact the parish office prior to the birth of their baby. Both

parents and godparents are required to attend the preparation class prior to the

baptism. Please contact the office for prep times and locations.

Marriage

At least one member of the couple requesting marriage must be registered and active

member of the clustered parishes for a minimum of three months prior to filling out

the wedding application. (Engaged couples should not be registered under his/her

parents.) Applications must be completed a minimum of six months prior to the

proposed wedding date to ensure adequate marriage preparation.

Parish Membership

The Sacrament of Baptism makes us members of Christ’s Body: The Church. As

disciples of the Lord we at the clustered parishes of St. Cornelius, St. John the

Evangelist live out our Christian faith through the Roman Catholic Tradition. The

rights and expectations of the members of the community include: the sacraments,

one’s spiritual, educational, and social formation, as well as a Christian burial. The

community for its part expects that those choosing to be members will keep holy the

Sabbath Day, as well as other days of Obligation. Members are encouraged and

expected to contribute their time, talent, and financial resources according to their

ability in order to maintain, up-build and strengthen the community of faith to which

they belong.

Parish Registration

Please contact the clustered parish office to register, or an initial registration form is

available in the bulletin. Please complete the form and drop into the collection basket

or mail it to the parish cluster office. All parishioners over the age of 18 years should

be registered in their own name.

Quinceañera

The rite of Quinceañera can be scheduled for celebration on Saturdays between the

hours of Noon and 2:00 p.m. They can also be celebrated on Fridays as the calendar

permits. You must contact the office 6 months prior to the desired date. This allows

ample time to for preparation and necessary planning. A candidate must be Baptized,

and have received Communion and Confirmation (please be prepared to provide the

necessary documentation). A retreat and education process is required before the

Quinceañera can be celebrated. For any questions or to schedule a Quinceañera

please call Christine Medley at the Office of Faith Formation-East (810) 395-2301.

Sacrament of Anointing

The Mass of Anointing is held periodically throughout the course of the year. In case

of an emergency, please call (810) 796-2926. Emergency calls are forwarded as

necessary, even during non-office hours.
